I posted this on the company board but this might be a better place...I work at FocusInfomatics...QC..just started not that long ago. Many years of experience with editing, QA, MT, etc. I'm new to VR. I would love to hear what to expect for production as right now...it's not so good. I understand variables, etc. My work load is very low right now but that is supposedly going to change soon. With QCing everything to sound, can someone tell me what they are able to achieve? I'm trying to hang in but this is dismal right now. Thanks in advance!

Thanks. I found your reply below. I'm really in a quandry. I guess I need to decide when to hang in and when it's time to find something else. This is a second income which is desperately needed and it's not cutting it right now...just not enough work so I can't even see what my earning potential could be.

I am the world's worst at math and have a daughter who is an accountant, go figure. Before my job outsourced I asked her for assistance. I told her what I made a day there and asked how many lines I would need a day to hopefully equal the same and that number is what I have strived for and 99.9% of the time accomplish.

we could double our lines. That is not true as my line count was usually 2000 or over that each day. I did not intend to get rich on this. I do not count on this income to sustain me or my home now. If I did I probably would have to get more than a part time job. I was not "sweet talked" into VR. My job where I had worked for over 10 years inhouse went to VR and from there outsourced. I was in my mid 50s then, had never worked from home, did not know there were companies that did this from home but found out who had my hospital's work and went to work for that company. I did not in that time in my life want to get out on the streets hunting another job. As far as management, never wanted in my life but have fun if it makes you feel better calling me that. Why are people not doing VR so angry?

Are you for real? Have you been in this business long? Have you ever had pride in your work? If the answer to all of these questions is yes, then you would know the answer to your original question. Let's put it this way: You obviously can't remember many expanders and haven't the skill to use them, templates, etc., so VR works for you. The dregs of the MT business.

So, don't get your panties all in a wad and why don't you get off your high horse while you are at it?? You aren't very good as an MT, so VR helps you. Why don't you just admit that and move on. Cut the crap about "you can't learn it," etc. Be honest with yourself and you well feel a whole lot better.

I have only done MTing now since the early 70s and guess what, no VR then. Why are you so angry about people who happen to like VR? What do you have it against it personally? Yes, I guess you are right, done this so many years I guess all those expanders I was supposed to use and the skills, templates, etc. were just in my mind. I tell you why I love this is because finally I donâ��t have to make $$$$ with only my job as I have other income. I donâ��t have to break a sweat anymore. I donâ��t have to worry about if I will have a job tomorrow, I double each month the same as my pay in social security and retirement funds. I donâ��t have to kiss up now to hold onto a job. I donâ��t have family to raise. I donâ��t have to work if I donâ��t want. The only thing was I wanted to work past my retirement age so I could double the amount of money I was making and it worked. Be a hater but do it for a reason. I care less if you work on straight, VR or donâ��t even work, no skin off my back. I used to struggle to make a living, now all gravy. Now, go hate on that also.

The MTSOs try to tell you "you just can't do VR," "You are just afraid of anything new." What a crock. VR is garbage and they know it. Anyone can do VR. Don't be a fool. That's not the point. VR is GARBAGE. Not only can one not make any money off it to survive, but you are contributing to compromising patient care with this GARBAGE.

I actually work for another company that uses the same platform and the money is horrible (almost minimum wage). I have plenty of work, but am so discouraged. I actually am just starting up with Focus, but have not started yet and requested to use the Dictaphone account (Extext) hoping that the money may be easier. I find that Escript is fairly easy platform but have more years experience with the other, in hopes maybe better money. I have heard though some do okay making $15 give or take an hour. I think it really depends on the dictators, how line count is added, how much $ per line, etc. I think mine is average, but the pay has not been so great. I hope this information helps you. I miss typing!

I must hit alt L 20 times a day instead of alt K. Seems like I do it when I'm in front of a word like "in" or "the" - you know, something that is in a document 1000 times.... I usually do alt z to undo it, but once that is done, the red box no longer works until it gets to the last occurrence of the word alt z corrected. How do I disable the alt L function? I just started an account using EditScript today and I can't seem to get my Sylvan ShortCut program to work with it. It works sometimes and not others and very slowly, showing one letter at a time. I already tried excluding it from my Avast antivirus (I think I did it right) and it seemed better for a minute and then right back to the same thing. Does anyone know if there is any difference in EditScript MT 9 and EditScript MT 9.12? If there is, how can we update this? It seems that my new place of employments line counting is not the same as my old place of employment.
