EditScript and TTS - Pros and cons

Offered a job with this company on EditScript platform. I still have job with major company. Should I make the switch. Pay is the same but run out of work a lot where I am now.

You should consider if you want every move, including bathroom breaks monitored. - Micromanaging is not for me

Just read the small print, which I do admit to missing....the one where they tell you that they know when your hands are and are not on the keyboard. I was sick and in the bathroom for 15 minutes and I was called asking where I was. I was also an IC and apparently not allowed to have a 30-minute lunch either. I like being IC due to the flexiblity but I had more flexibility at a hospital I worked for. I was allowed two 15-minute breaks and a lunch at the hospital as an employee. So, no thanks. I am not interested in micromanaging. To each his own..

They do Not monitor your every move like bathroom breaks... gimme a break with all of this trashing of the company I work for and have no problems... none!!!

I work for TTS. No big problems but there are a few - inept people managing the company

Poor training but you can overcome that. The problem I have when I make a mistake, and we MTs all do, I am warned this is grounds for dismissal if I make mistakes. They want you to do your commitment but slow down so you don't make any mistakes which makes it impossible to make money and reach the daily commitment. I live in fear of the dreaded e-mails threatening me with dismissal for mistakes. In the meantime the managers make one mistake after another and they use excuses like they are only human. I guess that makes MTs not human. There is an attitude toward MTs by top management that MTs are dispensible and easily replaced.

Editscript is a good platform but the money you can make on it depends on the account. Friend works on very difficult account and barely makes minimum wage. I have an easier account with fewer ESL so I can make more money than she does but it's not great money.

As far as running out of work, I do run out of work so that could be an issue. Seems like most companies overstaff the accounts.

I agree about dreading getting an email saying you have done something wrong, or aren't meeting production. I am on a hard account at TTS as well (tons of ESL, not great SR) and have been running out of work frequently since Memorial Day week. Seems overstaffing the weekdays and understaffing the weekends is a problem. I dont have a MAJOR problem with this, but I do not like being expected to work on the weekends because of lack of work during the week, not that I have much choice if I want to make any $.

Overall, I am just glad to have a job and take what I can get.

What despicable hypocrites who write emails about firing people doing the hardest job, the actual producers of the company's revenue---a job management could not do if their life depended on it. Then turn around and dismiss their own mistakes as "Only human". Hypocrites who should be fired themselves!

I was working but didn't produce a report yet because it was a very long complicated report by ESL. I don't know if she could see my hands were on the keyboard but she did know I had not finished a report during my shift.

TTS is not flexible, you must adhere to your schedule. They make that clear when you're hired, but if you need to flex and you get prior approval, you'll be fine. I don't have a problem with management. I do my job and if you do yours, life will be good. I love working there.

The only time TTS is flexible is if you run out of work or asked to step off the account you can work weekends. If you personally want to flex hours and there is work available on your account, you are not allowed to flex. This confuses the already confused TTS management and owner.

It depends on how hard the account is. My friend makes 4.25 cpl on speech for difficult account. She is a contractor not employee. Employees make less money per line. I make 4 cpl as a contractor on a relatively easier account. Even though I make less per line, I make more money and have less headaches while she struggles with ESL and bad speech recognition on her account.

The pay is equivalent to most other MT companies.

Does anyone know if there is any difference in EditScript MT 9 and EditScript MT 9.12? If there is, how can we update this? I have read to many articles on MT stars to get my smartype to work with Editscript. Last night it worked briefly but I would have the hit the spacebar and the type the first letter and then choose the expansion. Then it did not work again. The hospital I work for changed over the Editscript last year. Changeover went relatively smoothly, and we still had plenty of work to keep all the transcriptionists busy (after we stopped outsourcing the overflow we used to have). Recently, the hospital switched to Epic electronic medical record system, and within a week the transcription workload plumeted to probably 40% of our former workload --not enough to keep our transcription staff busy. It seems the doctors/nurses/etc ...
