Not boring, wish I could do this all the time - VR here

Posted: Nov 17, 2009

Already at 7 hours for the day and $146 on VR only, no sweat, no stress, hardly any ESLs today, company asking for any overtime you want to give. I love this job. I am SO glad I no longer have to wear my fingers to the bone typing away. I am not bored at all, hardly. Gotta go back to my job.

Really? - Tina

What company do you work for and what account? I do admit that VR could be great, if you happen to get those handful of wonderful dictators that are usually cherry-picked clean as they pop up. Unfortunately, moreover, it is the hard-to-understand or ESL docs that hem and haw their way through the report that is left for the majority of us. If what you say is true, count your blessings but, be warned, they may be short-lived as the new norm seems to be overstaffing of accounts for a lot of the companies switching to VR. Before the switch of the account I was on, I could TRANSCRIBE anywhere from 1500-3000 lines a day, which shot down to about 800 once we switched to VR as they did indeed overstaff and the only time the "extra" help seemed to be available was when it was docs they wanted to do...and, sad to say, I believe the majority of that was done by the new team leads assigned to the account. Imagine that! Sorry, guess I'm full of sour grapes when it comes to the subject of VR as I feel "sure, it may be great for someone who types an average of 40-50 wpm but when you type 90+ wpm and are an excellent transcriptionist with the ability to transform verbage and such as you type, then you will never be able to double your line count to make up the difference in your pay cut per line." Besides, I truly love TRANSCRIBING, not editing. See how much you love VR when they continue to cut your pay with the excuse "anyone can do it."

I find statements like yours ridiculous - VR here

[ In Reply To ..]
I never give out my company because so many come on here against it. I work on Escription. I used to straight type for years and years and typed 2000+ a day. I do not type your average 40-50 wpm and never have, not even when in high school. I have never said anyone can do, most others with silly answers do say that, including 1 who said a child can do. I am not on a cherry picked account and we were told termination if anyone caught doing that. I have more than my share of the terrible ESLs more than I want, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. It is very seldom that I am able to say I have enjoyed the day with mostly VR but today was an exception and exceptionally quiet from the ESL standpoint. Why in the heck do you think only people with bottom lined wpm are able to or want to do this work? I can average alright even with our horrid ESLs but just like a break every once in awhile and that is what was so nice today. Believe you me, I do not have the cream of the crop on VR when it comes to the ESLs. My hospital does them all.

Why ridiculous - Tina

[ In Reply To ..]
Why is my statement or my viewpoint ridiculous? I merely stated the truth. I am glad you had such an easy day, honestly. Just don't try to make out like VR is such a godsend when we all know differently. If you transcribed 2000+ lines a day (which I don't doubt), then why in the world would you be so happy to be editing the same amount of lines per day (if) for half the pay??? I seriously doubt that you are as happy with VR as you made out in the thread I responded to. Also, believe me, I do more than my share of difficult dictators and ESLs. Indeed, the ESLs aren't usually that bad, it's more the American dictators who seem to have lost the ability to speak coherently that I dread (especially when editing). Also, I never said one had to be a fast typist to transcribe, but it is a fact that an extremely good typist would prefer to type rather than edit when faced with making 5 cents a line compared to 10 cents a line. That's common sense! Anyway, enough said. You can my statemetns are as ridiculous as you want, I'm entitled to my opinion, as are you. Best of luck to you...to us all!

If I needed the money, guess I would work a fulltime job, huh? Don̢۪t do that so not worried about the pay I get. I do not get half the pay I used to, even when working inhouse and having both incentive and base pay I would have had to make $300.00 per day which I did not. Here I am usually averaging at least $150-160 a day and that is fine with me. I do not edit the same amount of lines per day that I did when straight, do much, much more but that is ok with me also. Oh, the viewpoint was so ridiculous because you stated might be ok for a person to do VR that only typing 40-50 wpm. That is such a farce. Poor thing, you just don̢۪t know.

Okay...I'm not going to spat back and forth with you, so this will be my last post on this particular thread. First off, most of us don't have the luxury of having a job for a hobby, we need it for the pay as we live paycheck to paycheck with bills to pay and mouths to feed. Secondly, I do not think that you edit "much, much more" than you did when you were typing or else you are a poor typist...that is the point in saying that a person who types 40-50 wpm might prefer editing over someone who types 90+ wpm. I've been a transcriptionist for 17 years, so I do have a pretty good idea as to what I'm talking about, having worked on both sides (transcription and VR). I am sick of the direction this industry is taking and the way companies treat their loyal MTs. As such, I've started a company of my own... Streamlined Transcription Logistics. My hope is to create a company where our employees/MTs feel as though they are members of an extended family, the STL family, rather than just another number. The motto of STL is "True believer and disciple of the golden rule." We want to be a company where excellence, reliability, loyalty, and productivity are rewarded. I invite you to view our website at streamlinedtranscriptionlogistics.com. I'll end by saying, "You really need to get a clue."

I will leave that to others who really need a job, as I did in the past. I have reached the point where I do work because I want to and only that. It is a wonderful place to be after 52 years of working. I have been a transcriptionist for almost 40 of those 52 years and I know what I love, now. I do not need someone to tell me I am liked, loved, etc. Just give me the work and send a check and we will get along fine. I need no other rewards. I am a big girl now, I do not need a so called extended family in this work force. Leave that to others who need that shoulder to cry on. Think what you want about my speed or lack thereof, no skin off my back. Good luck with your new endeavors. Off to bed.
haha! loved your post! - put very well

Some of these posters need to get off their high horse. I have been doing this for almost 22 years and I would welcome VR; however, I cannot seem to bring myself to work a set schedule or obide by a certain line quota when I am a true IC.

I love to transcribe; it's work but I also enjoy it! So, I guess it's my hobby that makes me lots of money! ha!

I think VR could save my wrists and hands as they have taken a beating over the years!

May you have a wonderful rest of your career! I just love how people start assuming things on this board and when they are told, they get super quiet! haha! (shaking your hand)

If you are going to tout excellence as a hallmark of your company, you might want to rethink your home page's "Curiosity peaked?" comment. "Peaked" is not the proper word in that context.
Thank you - Tina

I bet I have read that page 1000 times and it never dawned on me that I used the wrong word. I am so glad that you pointed that out. I am changing now. Once again...THANK YOU!!!
OK, I looked at your company's website - see message

It looks very nice and I love the colors!

And I also applaud what you seem to be doing. But, do you have any clients and are you hiring any MTs?

The only test I saw was a typing test, which I didn't go to, but I assume that it's just a short typing speed and accuracy test?
STL - Testing Link - Tina
[ In Reply To ..]
Thank you, truly. Unfortunately, STL is not currently hiring...just started the business on 09/11/09 and am still in the startup phase and trying to get all the details worked out and some clients onboard. Things will be slow going at first but I will definitely post when hiring (or feel free to check the STL website periodically as it will state on the testing link page if hiring or not). When hiring, #6 on that page will have a link available for MTs interested in testing. I hope to be hiring the first part of 2010 if all goes well, or sooner if I should manage to land an account before then. I am hopeful to say the least!

VR and Cherry-Picking - SM

[ In Reply To ..]
You raised an interesting point..best work "cherry-picked clean", usually by those that have the power to do so,& it's seldom the MT. I've only been on VR a few weeks & at first loved the idea that I could see all jobs available, by TAT, priority, dictator, job type, in addition to seeing work in my queue & thought jobs were assigned automatically by the system by TAT/priority of that particular dictation. Not so! No sooner do I get a halfway decent job in my queue, it gets snatched & replaced by a piece of crap WAY DOWN THE LIST of available jobs. VR system I'm on, I've heard, is one of the best, but as long as there are those who dish out the ----y work because they have the authority/power to do so (and who are also on salary besides)and keep it for themselves (or their girlfriends)-the best platform in the world won't do any good. Work should flow naturally, i.e., the next available job should go to the next available MT and not cherry-picked by the Leads.

I will only believe you if you name the company and platform..sm - 146

Oh, pleaseeeee. I will say this, when a company on this board gets a lot of flack, think for yourself. You know how the moderator says make up your own mind, people maybe should do such.

BORING

VR is by far the most boring thing I have ever done in transcription.  Not only is it tedious to say the least but just plain boring.  How anyone can do this for 8 hours is beyond me.  I simply cannot stand it.  Please do not tell me to give it a chance I would rather not.  You may begin the flames now. ...

Editing Is So Incredibly Boring.

I've been sitting here for only an hour and a half, and I AM SO BORED. I've never been bored with straight typing. They keep telling us "work is light".   "It's a holiday".  (Well, I guess somewhere in the world, it might be a holiday.)   If work is REALLY that light, how on earth is this company staying afloat?  Surely the bigwigs at the top aren't taking a cut in pay, like we peons are, when there's "no work".  Where is THEIR pay being generated?  Oh, wait.  Let me guess.  Must be all the work being re-routed to INDIA, or maybe their language ...

Trying To Find Part-time Or Full-time Employee Position (hospital/clinic)
Apr 30, 2013

If anyone knows of a hospital, clinic, or large practice offering remote full-time or part-time employee positions, I would really appreciate an email.  I have the sudden need to help support a family member long term (in addition to myself) and really need to find a long-term remote employee position for the stability.  Yes, I watch all the various employment sites and even individual hospital sites, but I was hoping that maybe, just maybe someone who works for a hospital that does th ...

Overtime Because Of The Time Clock Time Zone Change?
Feb 06, 2011

It has been inconvenient, and maybe a bit confusing at times, to check my time card hours for my shift as, because of my time zone, part of my hours show up on the next day because I work 2nd shift. I wonder if I will get overtime for yesterday, even though I did not work overtime. I had to start work several hours early because of maintenance, so all hours were completed before the hour my hours start showing up on the next day. Fine. But the last couple hours of yesterday show up as today, ...

MQ Rehire Policy For Part Time To Full Time
Apr 09, 2011

I worked for MQ full time and then went to part time last year, before finally quitting altogether because of health problems. I seem to remember an obscure policy that if you were full time and then went to part time, you could not go back to full time for a period of at least 1 year.  Can anyone verify that for me? IF, and this is a big IF, I were to go back to work for MQ, I would need to be full time. ...
