Editing is so incredibly boring. - MyEyes

Posted: Dec 24, 2012

I've been sitting here for only an hour and a half, and I AM SO BORED.

I've never been bored with straight typing. There's something about typing that makes you feel like an active participant in the report. But sitting there and watching that stupid red box bounce around...you get nothing from it. Even when I have to re-type every other word... Yell

I agree! - Very different from typing.

For me at least this is no longer an option to do full time. After 3 hours I'm shot.

Me, too. - MyEyes

I do this part-time and work on my IC accounts the rest of the day.

I can't decide whether I lose more money from the crappy line rate or from simply not having the fortitude to sit and do this without googling random crap for an hour.

HAHA! - Me too!

Work really should not entail this much sheer force of will to stay on task.

I know... - I was just trying to find

something called a Cashmere coil and ended up looking at cashmere coats for 20 minutes (none of which I will ever be able to afford by the way). ;/
I'm with y'all - radMT

but think i was getting bored with straight typing too. Here i sit checking this forum, lol. instead of making pennies. Geez, i wonder why. Of all days it is Christmas Eve that I have plenty of work. What I'm not liking lately is the fact working in the evening is the only way i can make any $ at all.
Seasons greetings all.

Not sure about boring - But frustrating and tedious

I don't get bored--there is so much to edit in the report, but it is certainly not stimulating or interesting like straight transcribing.

Bored to me is when there's nothing to do, as in if I happen to be lucky enough to get clinic so I can speed throught it, and at that, a dictator who actually knows how to use the ASR properly. Then it's boring, but at least it's not tedious and frustrating.

The whole idea is a big, fat mess, putting every dictator on the planet on ASR.

I could not do it. Tried it for six months. - sm

Not only was I bored to tears but my eyes hurt really bad and I was getting headaches from jumping all around. It's just not natural to do this type of work constantly. Constant start and stop. I'd much rather straight type for sure.

Agree! Editing for me is a total "yawn". sm - VR stinks

I dislike it intensely. Would much rather transcribe than edit. VR puts me to sleep. Actually, I think VR is more dangerous than tx as far as errors. I didn't work all these years to gain knowledge that I can no longer put to use. Bah.... The dumbing down of medical transcription = VR. Then, VR will suddenly spit out lots of errors to jolt me out of my sleep.

Used to love learning something new every day...actually lots of new stuff every day. My idea of fuomplicate

Tired of correcting the same errors over and over and over and over again.

VR also hurts my wrists. My wrists never bothered me until I started on VR. Have been typing since grammar school without problems.

I hate it and I find that I make more mistakes. - anon

It is not faster and it leads to more errors.

I get bored, eyes glaze over and I miss things.

However, it isn't going to change so I am going to get retrained and get out.

It takes a different skill set than straight transcription and it is no longer a good fit for me.

I wondered if I was the only one. I was brilliant at this before. - Not so much now. sm

I suspect this is the new normal and the hospitals and MTSOs and JPMorgan and the 2 largest MT companies and the next 1000 smaller ones have not figure out what we are suspecting. Editing produces more mistakes and that 98% accuracy rate is fictional with software generated text. Its why every company is always hiring and why there are so many long-time MTs having a hard time. What they want and what we need doesn't exist anymore. The got rid of it.

It will implode and evolve into something else. Again. But I'm also sending out hundreds of resumes and updating classes/skills to get out. I didn't sign on to do half of my job description for free (lookups ad nauseum) and the other half for less than minimum wage now.

Either Did Something Good Or Incredibly Stupid
Apr 17, 2014

I'm happy with the work that I do, but not so happy at the way I am paid (who is in this business), as it is an extremely confusing matrix.  The only thing I do understand is they use a formula to achieve the net lines I am paid.  So, me being in a brave mood (or stupid) emails my concern to the company's CEO.  He's readily available via messaging and we (as employees) are encouraged to 'say hi' or speak to him if we see him online.  I put together a ...

BORING
Nov 16, 2009

VR is by far the most boring thing I have ever done in transcription.  Not only is it tedious to say the least but just plain boring.  How anyone can do this for 8 hours is beyond me.  I simply cannot stand it.  Please do not tell me to give it a chance I would rather not.  You may begin the flames now. ...

Not Boring, Wish I Could Do This All The Time

Already at 7 hours for the day and $146 on VR only, no sweat, no stress, hardly any ESLs today, company asking for any overtime you want to give. I love this job. I am SO glad I no longer have to wear my fingers to the bone typing away. I am not bored at all, hardly. Gotta go back to my job. ...

Well, Well. Another Long, Boring Monday At Acusis
Oct 25, 2010

They keep telling us "work is light".   "It's a holiday".  (Well, I guess somewhere in the world, it might be a holiday.)   If work is REALLY that light, how on earth is this company staying afloat?  Surely the bigwigs at the top aren't taking a cut in pay, like we peons are, when there's "no work".  Where is THEIR pay being generated?  Oh, wait.  Let me guess.  Must be all the work being re-routed to INDIA, or maybe their language ...

Editing Pay
Jun 05, 2010

I understand that everything is going to the way of the editor and not typing, but when the editor keeps missing whole sentences or makes up words that sound nothing like the doctor is saying, how is one supposed to make any money?  I only get paid .04 per line to edit and I am spening more time trying to fix editing mistakes than I would if I just erase the text and type it out.  Very frustrating.  Thank God my husband has a good paying job, otherwise I would have to find another ...

Is All Editing With VR Really This Bad?
Oct 28, 2010

I work for a company that uses M*Modal for VR and all the reports have SO much editing.  There are complete words missing, words added that clearly aren't being dictated, at least 2 words on each line that have to be edited.  I'm doing so much more work for less pay than I was straight typing everything.  This is the only editing I've done so I don't know if this is normal for editing or if M*Modal just sucks!  My line counts suck, my pay sucks.  Any ...

Job Sent Without Editing
Feb 14, 2011

So, last week the system went down right as I was finishing up an extremely long job.  When it finally came back up, there was another glitch and before I could hit "recover", the job sent to the hospital as I originally got it with no editing whatsoever!  The hospital got in touch with Medquist EXTREMELY upset and in turn I got an e-mail wondering why that happened.  I feel like contacting this hospital myself and letting them know this THIS is what Medquist gives us to work ...

Feb 17, 2014

My quality has gone down since the clinic that I work at started this.   We use Dictaphone Extext.  Anyway, I must be going too fast or something because I seem to miss things.  Has anyone else had this problem?  I have started reading over my reports myself now before sending them through and I asked my supe if they have improved.  She said yes, but I still am making mistakes and she will send me my reports back shortly.  The only thing else I know t ...

VR Editing With Escript
Nov 12, 2009

I am new to Escript, as well as VR editing.  I find it to be VERY time consuming and crappy pay at $0.04.  That being said, I am lucky to make $10 an hour, if that.  In addition, you have to be on your toes, as it seems like at least one word in a sentence is incorrect.   For example today, one report stated, "testis Cardiolite stress test."  On top of it, this was not an ESL dictator and he spoke very clearly.  It just seems like more work to have to ...

Focusing While Editing
May 05, 2010

I work with the eScription platform and I have no problem with editing - I really enjoy giving my fingers and wrists a break, but I have the worst time concentrating when I'm doing it, LOL.  I can fly through reports when I'm focused.  My line counts are great for an hour and then drop off...pick back up...then drop off again.  They would be consistent and really good if I could just keep my mind from wandering.  Any VR'ers have any tips and tricks for staying ...

Transcend Editing
Aug 12, 2010

Everyone working on the BeyondTXT platform with Transcend just received an email from our editing trainer explaining to us how VR software only has to be 75% correct and we have to fix it to be perfect as if we were typing it.   She even specifies that if grammar is incorrect, sentences don't make sense, etc, we must fix it to quality standard.  While I agree with all that, what i don't agree with is the fact that they have put all of us (on Swedish at least) on all VR w ...

Question Regarding Editing VR
Mar 14, 2011

When they say VR editing is 4 cents a line, do they mean payment just for the specific lines that are edited, or for the whole report?  For instance, if a report is 40 lines long, but 5 lines need to be changed, do you get paid for the entire report, or just those 5 lines? ...

Are They All Editing Positions?
Jul 30, 2011

Just wandering if there are any employee positions that aren't just editing out there.  I feel like I am not growing as an MT doing nothing but editing.  Unless I choose to just edit and accept this is the new norm at 3 cents a line, eventually getting my own voice recognition software for the future for any accounts I want to get on my own. Any thoughts? I am wandering if this is something  I just need to hop onboard for.  Editing for nationals doesn't pay anything ...
