BORING - justkillingtime

Posted: Nov 16, 2009

VR is by far the most boring thing I have ever done in transcription.  Not only is it tedious to say the least but just plain boring.  How anyone can do this for 8 hours is beyond me.  I simply cannot stand it.  Please do not tell me to give it a chance I would rather not.  You may begin the flames now.

Will say again, not everyone stuck with VR - L

after we were taught inhouse. Some did, others did not. It is not for everyone. Some love and can make good money, others not making what you might make at McDonald's. I do not know what McDonalds or Wal-Mart either one pays so cannot compare. Most of transcription is boring, not just VR alone. I loved those emergency room reports and the psychiatric reports I used to do but no more. Oh, by the way, I only do for 8 hours per day.

No flames. You've lost the challenge of refining SM - MissIndigo

what-me,-read-when-I-don't-have-to?-English into a professional report. That needs to be replaced with something. On the plus side, you're involved with many more patients, whose cases are very interesting in many facilities, if not all. When that's not enough, I find that keeping attention sufficiently on what's said to break huge runs of text into paragraphs and to look for discrepancies provides enough challenge to keep attention focused.

I refuse to go on it. I would have to keep my eyelids - propped open with toothpicks. nm

then you would have to keep your eyelids propped open- you know nothing about it, right? Why are you even posting about this?

After 38 years working for tertiary care hospitals, teaching hospitals, children's hospitals, clinics, doctors' offices, ambulatory surgery---not much new.

Sorry VR is boring you. I am just happy having less physical stress (all that typing a full-time job and a part-time job for all those years) to type what I can edit.

I am happy I make twice the money I did typing and I am doing with far less physical strain.

Boring? Yes, somewhat. I still enjoy putting out a 99+% accurate product and I surely enjoy doubling my income over the last three years of typing with all the awkward, cumbersome, time-consuming platforms and overhiring companies, yadda, yadda, yadda.

So far, VR is what I want to be doing.

How in the world are you doing that? - christopherskitty

Im not disputing your word, I have to say I am inspired by what you have said. Im an old dog and love traditional transcription, however, recently took a SR position and I hate it soooo bad. Its boring me to death. PLEASE share with me what it is that helped you turn the corner on this! I work for a great company, but I HATE this stuff. By the way, Im on Dictaphone EXText platform...... what are you on?

You echo my sentiments exactly. I have a feeling we work for the same company. I like the company very much. I cannot tell you how much I hate VR. I know we should give it a chance but how can you put any effort into it if it really is not your thing.

How do I do it? - TexMT

I am on Dictaphone/eScription EditScript. I think what helps me is that I have been editing for years as an MTSO/hospital supervisor/QA/trainer and I have always hated using the mouse and was a lazy typist (that does not mean I was/am sloppy, just always searching for short cuts to make my production go up without killing myself).

I think, too, the MTs who "trained" the accounts I am (3 hospitals) did a terrific job as there is not much major editing I have to do.

It does help that these 3 accounts are blessed with some pretty good dictators.

And, of course, my biggest motivator is that even though I am of retirement age, being without health insurance and dealing with medical bills from surgeries I will literally being typing until the day I die....Hope this helps.

Already at 7 hours for the day and $146 on VR only, no sweat, no stress, hardly any ESLs today, company asking for any overtime you want to give. I love this job. I am SO glad I no longer have to wear my fingers to the bone typing away. I am not bored at all, hardly. Gotta go back to my job. ...

Editing Is So Incredibly Boring.
Dec 24, 2012

I've been sitting here for only an hour and a half, and I AM SO BORED. I've never been bored with straight typing. There's something about typing that makes you feel like an active participant in the report. But sitting there and watching that stupid red box bounce around...you get nothing from it. Even when I have to re-type every other word...  ...

Well, Well. Another Long, Boring Monday At Acusis

They keep telling us "work is light".   "It's a holiday".  (Well, I guess somewhere in the world, it might be a holiday.)   If work is REALLY that light, how on earth is this company staying afloat?  Surely the bigwigs at the top aren't taking a cut in pay, like we peons are, when there's "no work".  Where is THEIR pay being generated?  Oh, wait.  Let me guess.  Must be all the work being re-routed to INDIA, or maybe their language ...
