planning on purchasing a set of new headphones - Lynn

Posted: Oct 19, 2010

I am planning on purchasing a set of new headphones and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what's best.  I have only used Sony or Panasonic (probably cheap) in the past but I am having trouble sorting out the white noise.  Can anyone tell me your experience?  They can get pretty pricey but I am willing to pay for quality and clarity.  Thanks Much.

Bose. I've talked about them before, actually - Happy MT Robin

This is the new and slightly (by $10) more expensive version of what I have. Seriously the best money I've spent in a long time. There's a huge difference in what I hear with these as opposed to the "transcription" headphones I'd get from Transcriptiongear.com.

Happy MT Robin - Would you mind giving me a PM? I would like to ask you some questions about the headphones. My email is bcurtis@casair.net. I hope this isn't inappropriate. I am new to this website. Thanks.

Lynn, you probably want not to put your e-mail out there on ANY public board. It is not so much a question of propriety as of safety and identity protection. (If you were my daughter, I would caution you even more!) It just isn't safe in this day and age. Better to ask Happy if she would mind e-mailing you or for you to e-mail her. Just hoping folks can stay safe.
Thanks - Lynn

No need to be sorry. You did nothing to be sorry for. I think I am hypersensitive to identity theft as I have had three friends have it happen to them (what a huge gigantic mess it was for them), and I have a cousin who is a banker at a major bank and she tells me how easy it is for people to do. So I guess I'm just an overprotective old grandpa! :) Best of luck to you!

I use a brand called Skull Candy. They come in metallic colors. The sound clarity is marvelous. I am on a high-ESL account and these are the best headphones I have ever had. I paid 30 bucks for them on sale at Fred Meyer's. The usual price is about 40 bucks. They have a lifetime guarantee. Good luck!

Susan, do you know what model Skullcandy you have. I looked at slightly confusing website, and they seem to have dozens of models. I don't want a set that has a wire from each earpiece or a microphone. They also don't exactly say what kind of connector they have - 1 prong?

Lack Of Planning
Dec 12, 2013

You know that saying - A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine? Perfect picture of the North region this week. Apparently we were supposed to be upgraded to the newest version of Fluency except that due to the spectacular communication in the company no one received that information, including installation instructions and now there is a scramble to get everyone upgraded. Do I have all the tools to do my job? No. ...

Planning To Quit Soon
Jan 03, 2014

I'm finally ready to quit now that I can finally get healthcare--the only reason I've accepted more than 40% paycuts and now the cut in PTO when the PC can't go any lower.  I've been in different versions of MM for 13 years now and used to be happy.  Can anyone tell me the protocol (who do I contact--TL/HR?, E-mail/phone?) and will I be fired on the spot or can I give 2 weeks notice which is professional? I'm not leaving under bad circumstances.  Wha ...

Am desperately seeking direction as I new to purchase a new laptop and don't have a clue on what is the most reliable.  My husband, who was wise and always took care of these type purchases for me, passed away in October, and this is just one of a gazillion things I have to learn on my own now.  Anyway, I currently have a Toshiba Satellite with Windows 98 that is about 4 years old but it is just not acting right lately.  I don't need a lot of bells and whistles but reali ...

Purchasing Software For Job?
Jan 04, 2013

So I interviewed and seems like I got the job, but there was an issue with the version of Word software I had, so I was told to buy a new version from a third-party site.  Contacted Microsoft and they said they weren't listed as an auth dealer and their upgrade price was the same so I went with Microsoft...has anyone else run into this when they were interviewing?  I really want this job but that didn't feel so good.  She also said it could take weeks before training cou ...

Purchasing Equipment Through Nuance

I am in desperate need of new computer equipment and I swear I remember seeing somewhere over my time with Nuance that you can possibly buy computers through them and make payments through payroll.  Maybe I'm wrong, but if this is the case, where do I find this information and maybe a "shopping" page and/or application/form for a purchase?  Thanks in advance! ...

Question About Purchasing Microsoft Office 2003 Off Ebay.
Apr 22, 2012

I recently bought a laptop and need to at least install Word on it so I can use it for work, but I don't want to pay a fortune and would really prefer to install an older version of Word, i.e. 2003.  I looked on ebay and I see lots of Microsoft Office 2003 software for sell, but also see some confusing things like OEM versions being sold with a piece of hardware as per ebay and microsoft rules.  So I guess my question is if I buy OEM software with the corresponding hardware, can I ...

Most Comfortable Headphones
Oct 15, 2009

Which headphones do you like the best in terms of comfort and quality? Some of the ones that fit inside the ears, the earbuds, make my ears sore. My boss suggested the noise-canceling kind that fit over the ears, but they are very expensive and they also look like they were be very heavy to wear. Any recommendations would be great, thank you. ...

Comfortable Headphones
Oct 18, 2009

I've always used just cheap stereo headphones but I want to try some of the ones that are made specifically for transcription. The problem is the kind that fit inside my ears can hurt, the ones that are more rounded buds and have foam on them. What headphones do you recommend that are comfortable inside the ear? I tried some recently from a fellow MT and I think they were made by Lanier but I can't remember, but they seemed comfortable. Is Lanier the best also for sound quality? I loo ...

Wireless Headphones
Sep 04, 2011

Does anyone have or know of where to get wireless headphones.  My cat has chewed through the wires of 3 sets of headphones (at $18 each its getting expensive).  After the first 2 sets I have been putting them in a drawer when not in use, but the cord sticks out of the drawer attached to the computer and she found her way around the box while I was watching TV and now my third set is gone.  Within seconds she chews right through the cord.  So, since there are wireless keyboard ...

What Type Of Headphones Do You Use? Why?
Nov 11, 2013

Another post got me wondering, what type of headphones / ear buds do you use and why? I, personally, switched to (in-ear) ear buds about 5 to 6 years ago.  I found a pair of Skull Candy (yes, odd name but good ear buds) that I loved and have used them since.  They have a lifetime warranty (which I've used a couple times just due to daily use, and have never had an issue).  I actually keep a backup pair in case they break, etc.  They're just the cheap ones, I belie ...
