Another post got me wondering, what type of headphones / ear buds do you use and why?

I, personally, switched to (in-ear) ear buds about 5 to 6 years ago. I found a pair of Skull Candy (yes, odd name but good ear buds) that I loved and have used them since. They have a lifetime warranty (which I've used a couple times just due to daily use, and have never had an issue). I actually keep a backup pair in case they break, etc.

They're just the cheap ones, I believe they're called Ink'd.

I HATED the ones that most places supply (including Nuance when I started, Dictaphone brand). And regular headphones that used to come with wallkmans and such were horrid for our work too. So I used to have those huge ones that cut off the outside world and made you look like you were ready to land some aircraft!

So, what do you use and why?

I think it's one of those things that is a personal preference. Personally I can't use the earbud type of headphones. They never fit in my ear right. I use the Dictaphone brand. They are a bit expensive (they come in that box with the different sizes and types of foam pads, i.e. pointed vs plain) and you hear every nuance (no pun intended) in the spoken word. At least I do. They are designed for listening to voice and not music. There's a difference. Again, at least to me there is. Glad you found something that makes it easier for you though. It's all about tools that make it easier for us...absolutely!!!

I alternate between the Lanier MP-555 and the over-the-ear Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headset. Both are great, but the Sennheiser's can get heavy over an 8 hour shift. I use the Sennheiser's more when my hubby is home for noise reduction.

they are super comfy over the ear headphones... made for musicians i think. got them at guitar center ~3.5 years ago and they have zero wear. only ones i've found that are still comfy and not pinching glasses after 10hrs a day. A bit pricier than most, but better than buying a new pair every x months/years.

despise ear buds, so can't comment on those styles.

I've tried the Dictaphone ones, the over-the-ears kind (which I can't tolerate because they start to get so darned heavy and actually make the top of my head sweat, ew), etc.

I'm currently using a cheap-o pair that does the job well for me, comfortable with good sound quality. They're ear buds by JVC called Riptidz. They're only about $10 a pair and can be bought almost anywhere from Sears to CVS to Walgreen's. They come in different colors (I'm currently using red), and have 3 different rubber ear molds so you can pick the size that works best.

These days I pretty much go with the most economic work tools I can find, and these do the job well enough for me without breaking the bank.

I've always used just cheap stereo headphones but I want to try some of the ones that are made specifically for transcription. The problem is the kind that fit inside my ears can hurt, the ones that are more rounded buds and have foam on them. What headphones do you recommend that are comfortable inside the ear? Does anyone have or know of where to get wireless headphones. My cat has chewed through the wires of 3 sets of headphones (at $18 each its getting expensive). I would like some good input on a "good" set of headphones. I have used Bose QuietComfort in-ear headphones, which work fine, but I am looking for something with better clarity.
