cordless keyboard question - help please!

I have a Logitech cordless keyboard and I like to use it on my lap. Sometimes the connection gets weak and the keys become unresponsive. I have to put it back up onto the keyboard tray and type with it there for awhile, and then usually I can go back to my lap, until it decides to do it again, that is! Anybody have this happen, or know of any solutions? I used to plug the accompanying thumb drive into my computer tower, then moved it to the USB hub on my desk thinking it would be a little closer and work better. I thought it was for a few days, but now it's up to its old tricks!

What's dumb is that I just recently bought this one after my old Logitech cordless finally gave out. It never once had this problem!

until I switched back to a wired mouse (I was using a wireless keyboard and mouse). For some reason, even though it's not really supposed to make a difference, one will interfere with the other. You didn't say if you were using a wireless mouse, but if that's the case, you may want to switch and see if that helps.

Interestingly, I used the cordless mouse for about half a day, and it started to have problems with its response, so I went back to my corded mouse. I used a corded mouse with my old Logitech. For the last week or so I've gone back to the cordless mouse simply because it's easier for me to move it from the desktop to the keyboard tray when I change positions. The keyboard has acted up with both, but now I wonder if that is the reason why when I first plugged the thumb drive into my USB port it was working better...because I hadn't switched back to the cordless mouse yet. Something to look into. Thanks!

when you make the switch back to the corded mouse, reboot your computer. I know, that's always the first answer techie people give when you have questions about the computer ;)

Thanks for the tip...and you're right; that IS what they all say to do! Next time it happens I'll try switching and rebooting.

rebooting - the way I see it is --- - anon

The computer initially searches for everything it needs to 'reach' for on initial start up and it was told use the wireless this/that. Then the rules changed when you went back to the plug-ins. Works, but does the computer reach for the wireless first and then have to find the plugged in version? rebooting clears the desk of the 'extras' and sets it to look and grab the proper apparatus and all runs smoother.

its like adding a router, won't work w/o rebooting both cable and router. It's the only way to tell cable to look for the router address, and to tell the router to look for the laptop address at which point you're on. Otherwise both router and cable are looking for the laptop, no matter where the plugs are, and houston has a problem.

primitive, but works for me!

Microsoft has discontinued these great keyboards and I need a new one. Anybody aware of a split keyboard that has a really nice touch (remember those old IBM keyboards?) for transcription work by Microsoft or another brand that you really like? I am going to be looking for a new keyboard. I see most of you seem to like the split keyboard. When I tried that at one time I couldn't get used to the 6 being on the wrong side of the keyboard (I use my right hand for it), for one thing. Hello all, I am in need of a new keyboard. I am using a Goldtouch now but the keyboard configuration does not really work for me, specifically the cntl, alt, and windows keys, as well as the home key. I hit the wrong keys frequently, too much, and it hurts my production. I do like the "touch" of it though. I would like something that feels the same, a little bit spongy but not sticky. Hello, I am using a Microsoft split keyboard that is just about worn out and would like to know what most of you are using now. After using a split keyboard I do not think I could go back to a regular keyboard. Also, I keep the keyboard slanted to the left slightly which is more comfortable for me, probably because I am left-handed, but it does make to getting to some of the keys on my right hand a little difficult. I'm trying to stockpile a 2-year supply (wishful thinking?) of Memorex TS1100 keyboards. I don't think they are being made any more, so I find them on eBay. I use them untill all the print is off the letter keys, all the plastic is gone from several of the letters leaving the metal exposed, there is a piece missing on the space bar where my right thumb goes, and then I dump them. The cheapo one I am using is really noisy and hard on my fingers. I have to pound the keys. I love the feel of the keyboard on my laptop but don't like using it for transcription because it doesn't have the numeric keypad on the right and for other ergonomic reasons.
