Does anyone know how to create a keyboard stroke to "go to" a * in Word 2007? For example: Physical Exam: Respirations *, Weight *, etc. When you have a template or macro for the PE and you need to just go to the * and fill in............
Thanks so much!
Nana
I hope I understood your question. Your comment “When you have a template or macro for the PE” kind of concerned me because you cannot use a macro within a macro. If it is a template, this macro should work.
Here are the instructions from HELP for Word 2007 (comments that I added are in blue)
IMPORTANT: Have a sample report already on your screen in your Word 2007 document that has some place markers already imbedded.
1. On the Developer tab, in the Code group, click Record Macro.
2. In the Macro name box, type a name for the macro. (If you put in a name that it does not like, you will probably hear a tone and your keyboard will lock up. Just hit ESC and start over).
IMPORTANT Note: If you give a new macro the same name as a built-in macro in Office Word 2007, the new macro actions will replace the built-in macro. To view a list of built-in macros, on the Developer tab, in the Code group, click Macros. In the Macros in list, click Word Commands.
3. To make your macro available in all documents, be sure to that the Store macro in shows: Normal.dotm.
4. In the Description box, type a description of the macro. (for example: Go To *)
5. Click the KEYBOARD button
You will go to the next screen.
6. Go to Press the shortcut key. (Enter what you want to use to get to the * -- For example: If you want to use the ALT Key and the “G” Key, you would do exactly that – press ALT and G at the same time)
7. Click: Assign
8. Click: Close (You will see what looks like a cassette tape hovering over the document. This shows that you are recording.)
9. Type in whatever you want the macro to do. In your case, you want to Find the next * place marker.
CTRL+F
Type in *
Click: Find Next
This will take you to the first place marker of * that is in the document you are working on.
Click: Cancel
You are done.
10. Go back up to the Developer and click Stop Recording in the Code group.
Type in what you need to at the *. Then to get to the next *, simply use the ALT+G (or whatever you named your macro).
Hope that was not too confusing.
