Is there a way for a document to automatically scroll as you type - in MS Word?

Posted: Nov 18, 2013

Don't know if that is a possible feature in MS Word.  I'm typing a document and it doesn't scroll.  Next thing I know I'm looking down at the bottom of my monitor then using the mouse to move it up.

Wonder if there is a feature and if anyone know how to do it so that document will scroll up as I'm typing so I will always be looking directly in front of me.

I wish. If you ever do find such a thing, please post here and let us know. - word student

The best I came up with was a macro that adds 25 returns and then erases them so that it pushes the text up higher.  It could be any number of returns you want; x25 just works best for me at my screen resolution in EditScript because of the header, but x30 would actually be better for me in plain Word.  I used just one key command for it (F5, in my case, since I don't really use whatever the default Word function for that is), but you could assign it to anything you want.  You don't say what version of Word you're in, but if you don't know how to install a macro, give a holler, and I'll try to help.  Or record one as I said:  Return x?, highlight them all, delete, and voila ... when you use it, you "push" your last text up by that amount/to the top of the page (when recording, you could start with a "test" word already down at the bottom of a document in Word so you can see what you're doing better, but don't highlight that word and delete it when you're at that step).

Appreciate you taking the time to write out the post. I plan to brush up on Word skills next month and pretty sure this will come in handy.

I use the "go back" function (Shift+F5) - CLB

So for example, in InstantText, I assigned a shortcut key. I use "yy" so I don't have to take my hands off the home keys. Then I used the macro recorder and:

1) Created a "last edit point" by typing a character and then backspace to delete.

2). Hit the Page Down key.

3). Hit Shift+F5 (the GoBack to "last edit point" command)

4). End macro

So now when I hit "yy", Word scrolls down one page and then moves the cursor back to the point where I was last typing. I'm transitioning to a VR platform soon and hoping I can still use this.

That's pretty good - I'm still looking though for - in MS Word?

A function that gets the screen to keep at a steady level. What I mean is that when I'm typing and it goes to the next line that line will move up. It stinks typing a whole page and then my neck if flexed downward looking at the bottom of the monitor until I manually move it.

I'm still looking. Will post when I find something.

Macro To Automatically Correct Numbered List
Dec 09, 2012

Hey guys, this is for all the editscript users or people who can't use the auto list function in word.  This macro will run through a list that looks like this: 2.  cat. 9.  dog 10. bird. 2.  fish. and corrects the numbers to look like this: 1.  cat. 2.  dog. 3.  bird. 4.  fish.   It stops after the list so nothing else gets changed.    To use it, create an empty macro and assign a hot key.  Then go in to edit the macr ...
