running out of work - confused

Hi, this is my first time on this forum, so hope this post goes through.  The hospital that I work for is outsourcing the transcription department to Nuance Transcription Services.  We have been offered a job to move right over, etc. and everything sounds just wonderful.  LOL.  However, I see on the board many, many unhappy employees.  Is there anyone that is happy with Nuance? and about running out of work - is that mostly radiology or is it also medical records?  Thanks.

Don't believe all you hear on this forum. At any given time there are 60 to 250 people online. Out of those maybe 10% work for Nuance. They are the ones that are miserable and ranting for the most part. If you are a decent MLS/MT, work hard, follow the rules you can do just fine -- maybe not as great as your hospital pay, but you can do OKAY. Good luck

..or else he/she wouldn't have stated any of the above. There is just too much consistency in the comments on this board and in the "Glass Door" reviews of Nuance Transcription Services http://tinyurl.com/nw4o7n5 for the negative comments to reflect some kind of anomaly.

My advice to anyone faced with a choice between Nuance and anything else is to take "anything else."

would have defended Nuance and said they were an awesome place to work and never any problems, blah blah blah..until the pay grid and then they TRIED to pay us for only 88% of our production in my region so ya they pretty much lost my vote of confidence in their company..as a matter of fact I had just seen somewhere else a lady who used to say how much she loves working for them and she is happy with her pay and accounts and TSM, and she is now complaining about her percentage and how she is losing money now, so even if you were once happy there, you won't be for long.

Cracks me up how anyone who makes a positive comment about Nuance is automatically management. I am a little worker bee like the rest of you, outsourced to Nuance 3 years ago and not very happy about it. My experience with the new pay has been nothing but positive -- making LOTS more money. Not so happy before, but definitely positive things to say now.

person who said it is okay and you will be fine at Nuance, he/she is a liar and most likely a recruiter or some sort of manager. You will not only frequently be out of work but you will be paid much less when you do work. I hope you have another option or you will be miserable like the rest of us!

When interviewed I recall asking about holidays and time off. I was assured you got major holidays off (perhaps alternating on the majors Christmas/Thanksgiving). What this really means is that you are required to work the holiday if it falls on your regularly scheduled day. If you request it off (and actually receive it) you must use accrued PTO time. If you work the holiday, you will receive a slight bump LPH, but most likely you will actually be out of work all day and only accrue very few lines. Then, since there is PTO, and no actual sick leave and much out-of-work time, it is unlikely you will have much accrued PTO anyway.

I had been a transcriptionist since 1985, a good one by all my evaluations while I was working in hospitals. I went with early retirement recently because of my health. Was so stressed that my hands were literally a bleeding mess because of the itch of eczema which was also on other parts of my body. Had to get steroid shots which caused their own set of problems. Cleared up now by the way. I worked part-time so got little PTO and could spend almost no holidays with my family or even think about taking any kind of vacation or even time off with my husband. Got the choice actually of not working all weekends but then there was no work other days. I know so many people who lost everything when our hospital was outsourced, especially if they were the sole breadwinner and I doubt many of them even post on this site. They promise a lot, i.e., getting the same accounts, but this does not happen. Maybe it is possible to do "okay" but I never did, barely made minimum wage and now that my state's minimum wage when up, I doubt I could do that anymore. As soon as I got familiar with an account, was switched to another, was nit-picked to death by QA, spent hours of my own time getting reversals. To the person who is being outsourced, am very sorry for your loss. I get this magazine about medical records, mainly coding, and they often have articles about the sad state of transcriptionists because of outsourcing, that talented people are leaving in droves because their pay is cut in half when they go with these companies. Younger people really should look at their options before becoming or staying a transcriptionist unless something changes. The magazine says they are still needed though.

It's all true, sad to say. I'm lucky to make minimum wage now with Nuance.

I took a 2 cent per line pay cut this past December and am looking elsewhere, I suggest you and your co-workers do the same.

I will never understand why companies over hire, we were ontop of TAT.  In 2 weeks we have gone from 100s of files to 20 and fighting each other for them.   1200 lines to 400 a day ?  Amazing the amount of job hopping necessary to support our families as most of type long hours, low pay to support our families.  I am sickened by the thought of losing another job to no lines and the financial downfall it will have on my family..... Running Windows Programs On A MAC

I have an opportunity to get a brand new MAC as a gift.  My boyfriend has an extra one.  I work on the BeyondText platform and remember seeing someone on here had a MAC but had a way to split it so her Windows programs ran on the MAC somehow.  Tech support at Transcend says it won't work on a MAC. Or maybe I was wondering if an external driver could be used that was Windows and would run on the MAC.  Probably a pipe dream, but a MAC!  Oh I would love it!  Anyb ...

I just came on shift and the system is sluggish, taking forever to download jobs and to switch between screens for ADT.  As if that wasn't delightful enough, I just got the dreaded "unable to provide further audio" on the only decent-length job I've had, and I was actually able to hear it just fine.  I broke it just to be on the safe side - I'm not going to do a job if I'm not sure of getting credit for it.  Is anybody else dealing with ...
