Should it be allowed (they just did this to me) - MT

Posted: Feb 02, 2013

I sent a dictation to QC for blanks because the dictator was saying wrong words, and mis-speaking.  I just got about 7 major errors for things which the dictator changed mind, slurred, and that is why I put it in the pending with questions to begin with.  So, is this the correct policy. Put in the blanks, question certain words and then still get in trouble for this as major errors? I did not put through to client, questioned each, put difficult dictator in box, please help and then I get all these major errors. This is not rhetorical. This is an actual question to coworkers. Do you think this is a good policy... to ream someone asking for help on a difficult dictator...

Are these errors going to be counted against you or are they - just an FYI?

[ In Reply To ..]
I would think they should not be counted since you sent the report to QA and flagged it as a difficult dictator. Thats letting them know you had problems with the dictation right there and that you had things you were not sure about.

It was not an FYI e mail, it was a critical error alert - MT

Well, it came across as critical errors and I recognized the document as something which I put in pend. I recognized the dictator. But it was still critical error for each (x7). So I am not sure if it counts against or is an FYI. It reads critical error in those green boxes.

Keep track of the job numbers when you have - reports like that. That way if

they try to come back at you with it, you can show them why sent the report to QA and what notes you attached to the report when you sent it. Your defense will be that, thats why you sent it to QA to begin with, because the dictation was difficult and there were things that you were uncertain of. It will give you a leg to stand on, as I am sure hey would rather you send it to QA then to client. And no, I dont think those are good practices if they are actually going to count it against you.
Thanks for the advice. - MT

Now I think I stink so bad they should fire me. I don't even want to go back to work. But I am single and all my bills depend on this. I hate this. I gave up going to breakfast with my son and I am sitting here now like an idiot. Sorry for this vent. Thanks for your advice. Just feeling really really bad right now. Why does this have to happen.
You dont stink. If you did you would'nt still be working - Difficult dictations comes with this

job and even the best MTs come across those. Hang in there, and try not to let it get you down. If you notice, Nuance has a lot of complaints from MTs about their QA so it's not just you.
Thanks. I guess I just needed to hear that. - MT

I really appreciate it. My son said the same thing too. But it's often tough when we are so isolated and we can take everything to heart. I really appreciate your saying this, b/c sometimes we just need to hear it from others. Really grateful for your kindness.
They can screw up many ways and they do. - But do not let them SM

get into your head and get down on yourself, don't let them make you question your own abilities. You know that some QA or QC, not sure, is done in India, right? Like the above poster said, look at all of these posts about incorrect QA. We have all been doing great work for many years and now being played with by people who barely know the business making ridiculous rules about something they know nothing about. It seems they never address the fact that the quality of the dictation has a lot to do with what the final report looks like. They refuse to address this very big issue. We seems to be blamed for everyone else's mistakes, starting with the dictator. Do not get down on yourself. It is not your fault. Seems like you handled this correctly, the way it has always been handled with blanks/bad dictators. It's just that before this craziness, we weren't held accountable for others' mistakes.
should it be allowed . . . - screwed over

Also I got pointed for starting a sentence "Patient did bla bla bla". Was told it should be "The patient did bla bla". Today, I get a report I got pointed for putting "The patient bla bla" when dictator said "Patient did bla bla". Where do you win? Truly, I am SCREWED OVER.
Once again, QC reports are moot in terms of bonus, etc. - Don't take this so hard.

I have no idea why QC went off the deep end like that with the corrections (some say they have no choice, it's "automatic" because of the system in terms of what they're scoring, which I don't quite believe, especially as regards NonErrors not being assigned more when they should be). Regardless, anything you voluntarily submit *does not* count toward your Post Audit score (just your QC percent), so just try to let this roll off you like water off a duck's back. :) I understand the self-esteem knock you're feeling, but it really is inconsequential in the long run ... in terms of compensation, at least.

Psychological warfare. Nuance does the exact opposite of what they should do in every single situation. I have another job where I am appreciated now and I can't tell you how unaccustomed to that I was after my stint with Nuance. Thank God I got out of this company. They remind me of Hitler/Stalin/Caligula. You were correct to ask questions. I'd tell you to raise heck, but actually my advice (as I've tried that and it doesn't work) is to find a different job. Psychological warfare. God, they suck.

Thanks for your reply. I agree - MT

I did go back and finish my shift, but took a hit in lines and having kind of a rotten evening b/c I let it get to me. Without you all here and my son, I would have felt even worse. I know that I am being neurotic even thinking that what they do is right and reacting to it. In the real sane world, this kind of feedback from QC would have been more informative with a sample of the bad dictator and a note saying that the dictator was difficult and here's some ideas for next time. Instead all these major errors on me. That is not logical. You are right. It is psychological warfare. I wonder if it made the QC (and I know who it is b/c they have to put their name on it) got a rush out of doing this and made her feel superior or something. I guess I am thinking too deeply about it, but the process is wrong. The document was not sent to the client, I asked for help and in return got reamed. Shame on me for living. Meanwhile the dictator goes on in their bad habit and no doubt making those great salaries they do having a wonderful weekend. I just hope that what goes around comes around. Sorry to sound bitter, but we have feelings and when this happens have a right to react, neurotic and nonsensical though it may be. Thanks for your comments.

I believe in karma and they are in for it, big time - NM

The only people not abused by Nuance are new graduates who don't realize they're being abused because they're still learning so much. I have never in my long career been treated as bad as Nuance. Apparently 400 lph editing with 99.2% QA makes me worth the same thing as a new graduate, yet they still want me to work on their hard to staff difficult accounts. Not happening. Maybe some day they'll learn that the companies they buy are profitable because of its employees. If they buy companies and then slash pay of their best people, those same accounts aren't profitable anymore with a revolving door of new employees every few months.

I didn't know they did that with critical errors on QC reports. - still doesn't count in Post Audit, though

[ In Reply To ..]
I have received QC reports with other corrections besides the blanks I submitted for, but it's still really moot since anything sent to QC doesn't count toward your Post Audit score (QA) that affects your bonus eligibility. The only thing it does affect is your QC percent for number of lines submitted, which has to be no more than 10% for the quarter to still be eligible (used to be a more reasonable 15% max).

From what you just said, it sounds like it can - prevent you from SM

[ In Reply To ..]
getting bonus with only 10% QC for quarter. It is all so ridiculous. We are QA'd, QC'd, punch clock, discrepancy between actual worked hours and total worked hours because of researching time, which we are not compensated for, all of this for minimal wage job. How laughable is that? It is to the point that I just don't care about any of it anymore. I punch in, work, punch out, and never expect bonus anyway because I work part time and will never have the lines to qualify, even if my work was 100% in every way, which it might be (any everyone else's too) if these ridiculous rules were not in place. They are only in place to prevent bonus anyway, IMO.

Well, right, especially if a long report (the QC percent is by number of lines, - not number of reports).

[ In Reply To ..]
Which is one more thing that doesn't seem fair. But she was going to have to submit it anyway due to all the blanks, so that's essentially a moot point too. I'm just saying that all the corrections, at least, have nothing to do with the overall Post Audit score, so that part of it is not worth fretting about.

I'm thinking that some here are confused about the difference between QC (who reports submitted by the MLS go to) and QA (for reports that are post audited after being received by the client). It's worth learning the difference. Unfortunately, it looks like the new Employee Handbook does nothing to help explain all that either. Disappointing.

I've seen on this board posts by QAs and QCs who - Des

said they don't even read the comments left by MTs. They just listen to the marked areas and move on.

This could be what happened to you. QC just filled in what the dictator said, and then when it went to the client that way, it came back on you because only your initials are on the report.

This is that QC's error and you most certainly should escalate it. In fact, if they ignore you or refuse to place the blame where it belongs, I'd seek legal help, most especially if they try to keep any incentive bonuses from you or threaten your job.

Is is correct . . . - screwed over

[ In Reply To ..]
No - it is "our" responsibility as a transcriptionist to correct every mistake dictator makes. Even though we did not graduate medical school, PA school, NP school - it is up to US to correct their errors. If MD says medication is 0.05 and it is 0.005 - it is OUR mistake. It is all a big crock of BS.

I work for one of the big MTSOs, take annual HIPAA training, and know I am subject to fines or discharge for disclosing someone else̢۪s medical info, either intentionally or accidentally such as via an incorrect C/C. We Have Allowed Them To Redefine A "line."
Dec 19, 2014

I woke up this morning and the thought that has been swirling crystalized somewhat. Ladies and gentleman, those of us on platforms with "adjustments" have allowed them to redefine what a "Line" is. A line is no longer characters typed (including or not including spaces) divided by 65, which is an industry standard. We have allowed them to make how many characters equal a line a lot more than that, i.e. 5% more, 12% more, etc. !!! We are being penalized for working smarter not harder! If ...
