CMT credentials - SeaMT

Posted: Apr 10, 2012

Why the hoopla about providing classes for CMT CE credits when Nuance does not recognize the CMT status????

I am a CMT, and it doesn't seem to matter one hill of beans these days whether you are or not (pay wise, I mean.)

Hoopla from whom? Nuance Corporate? Or do you mean the AHDI Chapter founded by Webmedx. - nm

We were paid extra for the CMT by Wmx before they sold us out. I participated and earned my CMT and was proud of it. I just got my renewal in the mail, and even though I have all of the credits, I let it lapse as I do not have any extra money now and it is absolutely useless to me now.

It was a Nuance e-mail referring us to outside classes. Just - taking care of loose strings, I suspect, SM

for those of us who came in with a (no longer?) company-sponsored AHDI chapter. In other words, take care of it yourself? Whatever, I didn't mind. I'm a grownup. :) My CMT--for whatever it is or isn't worth--is mine, and I can take care of myself.

In any case, I just renewed my CMT a couple months ago. For those who do care, getting the credits really wasn't a big deal, even though I waited too long to start accumulating all I needed (the second half of the last year for almost half of them instead of steadily through all three years) and had to scrabble a bit toward the end.

There are actually lots of resources out there, and the AHDI office will send a long list they keep. For those who go after the freebies, there are plenty available over time. For those who delay, like me, there are still a lot of freebies that can be done on your own and also some inexpensive quick-credit options. The expensive classes also on the lists aren't at all necessary, although I did take one because I wanted it.

I too am a Nuance CMT. I'm proud of my credentialing... - see message

...and I'm hanging onto it. I just renewed my credential and plan never to let it lapse.

The CECs keep me up to date, informed and involved in the industry.

I never got my CMT for the tiny bit of CPL incentive. I got it because it was something I felt was worth pursuing.

To each his own.
Good see another positive post. It's not the CMT itself - that makes us happy, of course. :) NM

The fact that we earned more after taking and becoming CMTs and having that taken away is just 1 more slap in the face to us with this merge. That is why I am moving along to a company that appreciates the work I put into this.

You are a CMT and they cut your pay with the - merge?? see message

I thought having your CMT meant you got an increase, how could they cut your pay?

The problem with this industry is that they dont fairly compensate the good, well-grounded, career-oriented MTs the way they should. You should be paid accordingly and what you are worth.

If they ever wonder why they have so many underqualified MTs in the industry, I think the answer to that question would be compensation.

Yes, they put us all at the same rate across the board and stopped compensating for being a CMT. So with over 20 years of experience, my base pay is the same as someone right out the door. They claim as I produce more and hit the top tier of bonuses that is how I reap the benefits. Not true. I still take home almost 1000.00 less a month. This whole industry is a joke at this point. Oh, and dont use your PTO, as that is based on the low rate you earn, not your bonuses. Just stuck.
Thats terrible, but yet they send an email offering - people to get the credentials - sm

What would be the benfit? Makes no sense.
Lots already have them, and this just directs where continuing ed - credits can be obtained. NM

I for one, have put in the Nuance Feedback Forum the fact CMTs deserve to earn a bit more than the average MT. Perhaps if more do this, we will be compensated for our certification.

Very good idea, I will too, it certainly won't hurt!! I am the one who posted above about letting mine lapse. I DO believe in continuing education and will continue to participate in some of the activities, but truly I am totally broke and had no money to renew, even though I had all of the needed CEUs to do so! They withheld the wrong amounts evidently, even though I claimed 0, and I have to come up with more for taxes and may not eat a few weeks as it is, and that CMT renewal is not cheap in these circumstances!

How Many Of You Have Both CCS And CPC Credentials?

Just wondering how many of you have both CCS and CPC credentials. How many years did you work before you took those tests? Did the credentials help you get a job or did you get the job first? ...

Credentials
Oct 20, 2011

Why in the world would any MT seek to further their credentials, i.e., CMT, etc., when it doesn't make one whit of difference in how you are paid?  So many posts here regarding highly qualified, CMT's, etc., that can't find a job for 8cpl?  This Michael Jackson trial may end up in being good for us, in that "medical records" are very necessary and need to be accurate.  Maybe this is the break that we need?  How about an "Occupy Doctors" platform--you pay us wha ...

Maintaining Credentials
May 12, 2010

I'm pretty sure AHIMA requires a certain number of continuing education hours to maintain a credential and assume AAPC does also but I'm wondering if you have multiple coding credentials, do you have to do separate CE hours for each one or can use the same hours for more than one credential.  Does anyone know? ...

Looks Like Mandatory CMT Credentials Soon.
Aug 02, 2010

Just like the post below stated, House of Delgates known as (HOD) from AHDI is wanting everyone to ensure patient safety and the integrity of patient records, all persons involved in creating, editing, organizing, or transmitting protected health information should be formally trained and hold credentials relevant to those duties.  To that end, AHDI should move forward with the support of its leadership in actively advocating for mandatory credentialing by whatever means that can be accompl ...

Does anyone know which school will better prepare one to get CCS or CPC credentials straight out of school between Andrews and Career Step? ADHI Vot For Mandatory Credentials
Aug 15, 2010

Did they vote to give themselves all a raise too?  They can have thier little votes amongst themselves until the cows come home.  It's never going to happen!  Not as long as so much work is allowed to be outsourced over seas.  It would be different if they were actually advocates for MTs and the industry as a whole, instead of promoting their own agenda.  Then, maybe they would actually be respected by the MTs themselves.  We need hea ...

Coding Credentials/Certification
Apr 30, 2015

Good evening coders :)  I have been reviewing many posts and notice a trend of sorts.  Many posters feel that the AHIMA recognized RHIT credential is not sufficient to gain employment as a coder or that attending a 2 year AAS HIM program is not enough education to the ability to be a sucessful coder.  I was curious about geographic location playing a role in these assumptions?   As an employee in an HIM department, my director possesses the RHIT credential as well as majorit ...

Newbies And Students - About AHDI Credentials ...
Jan 06, 2010

A certificate of completion (of your course or education program) does not make you a CMT. The AHDI (Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity) offers 2 different credentials:  RMT (for those with less experience) and CMT.   Both credentials require passing a challenge exam and continuing education credits to maintain (every 3 years).  If you think that it doesn't matter whether you obtain an RMT or CMT credential through the AHDI, just think of it this way:&n ...

Coding Credentials Made Easy!
Jan 12, 2012

People who are new to coding get confused about credentials. There is some great information in the pages below if you read what has been written on here for months, and I definitely recommend doing that. You will learn more than you can imagine.  I thought I would try to put it in a short,  easy-to-understand format, specifically designed for MTs who are transitoning to coding. CCS and CPC - Impressive! Marketable skills. This is comparable to a medical transcriptionist who can type ...

Salary Increase Expectations After Getting CPC, CCS Credentials
Feb 03, 2013

I just landed an entry-level position as a hospital outpatient coder!  Yay!  It is a foot in the door towards my new career.  After I sit for and get my credentials (I have 0 experience in this field), I plan on giving my passing credentials to my HIM director and to HR.  Is it appropriate to ask HR when I do my hiring paperwork/orientation what salary increases are given for credentials and per credential?  I am not really sure that is the right time or place to discuss ...
