Not sure if mine was bought out or not, I started when it was secrephone ions ago - mona

It was secrephone and then it was mrc group and then medquist and then mmodal. Waiting for another new name to come up
Bought out, but I declined. - SM

When my hospital outsourced to a mid-size MTSO, I didn't have much choice so went with that MTSO. Within two months, they "introduced" VR to our pay structure, with the "exciting" new potential to rack up a lot more lines per day!! I have no doubt that they knew they'd be switching us to VR all along but started out at a halfway decent 9 CPL for straight typing. With the VR, my pay dropped by at least two-thirds (even though, yeah--I was racking up a lot more lines....funny how that works when you're being paid less than half the CPL, huh?).
While slogging along with that mid-size MTSO and wondering what in the heck I could do, I told my hubby that if that company was EVER bought out by Medquist, I knew I couldn't stay with it. Naturally, that's exactly what happened about 9 months later.
If not for this MT forum, I would never have known that Medquist was now M*Modal, so I knew enough not to accept the position with M*Modal. Otherwise, I'd be in the "bought-out" column, too.
I finally got a job as a pharmacy tech, which pays about half of what I was making a few years ago at the hospital but a lot more than I was earning doing VR editing. Good luck to everyone....truly wishing you the best.
Same here. Also from Secrephone. - sm

I truly loved my job then. Things were great until Medquist came along. Do you remember Vinnie from Secrephone? I have always wondered where he ended up.
Yes, I loved vince, he was so nice - mona

can't remember the manager's name as I didn't work in the office but I remember calling vince.
Was it Diane? - sm

Vinnie left before the merge but Diane stayed, at least through the first merge. I also didn't work in the office but I always wondered where he ended up. He was a really nice person to work with.
Got bought out - But glad I tried them

I was so scared I would lost the 10/6 and the other benefits our hospital insisted MM give us, that I went ahead and took a part-time position so I could look for full-time work elsewhere. I was dreading it but after a couple of weeks of different QAs picking my work to death, it has been smooth sailing since and they have completely left me alone. I'm glad I tried them out.
bought out, gave it a try and - am on my way outta here

I was actually excited when my company got bought out because our system is old, clunky, and it's really hard to be productive on it. That's the only thing that didn't change. Now, we are held to MM standards on a system that makes it impossible.
I just came to the conclusion that I'm not cut out to work for a big corporation so I'm really just hanging in until I find something else.
Bought out/merged. Medifax, Secrephone then, MRC - then Medquist and now MModal.

They all sleep together. They all know each other in the companies. Kinda like a small knit family. The guy (CEO) who created Spheris was my manager at Medifax and was attending school for his BA degree. Telling ya, small world when it comes to these companies.
Bought out - 3X - outahere

My guess is they can't cultivate clients on their own merit, so they buy out the smaller companies that least their platforms. It's what they call a "levereaged buyout." Either sell to us or we'll pull our software and drive you into bankruptsy. Either way, they get the company.
bought out - nice!

Wow that shows their true character. The only way they get employees is threats.
Nuance bought Encompass recently, too. I heard they are buying all the eScription companies. I bet that Keystrokes gets bought by MQ soon. What the heck is going on with all these companies buying each other? Will there be anyone left? ...
If you could go back in time, would you still be a coder? I guess I'm just curious if the "Oh, I wish I had done something different" sentiment is a prevalent here as it is in MT.
If you wouldn't change a thing, what is it that you really love about your work?
If you hate coding and what you do, what would you do instead? ...
I found a company called Physicians Choice Transcription Service (PCTSI) which says they take newbies but you pay them money weekly as a payroll deduction. You start out paying them $100/week. Does anyone know anything about this kind of service? I've been looking for work for weeks and have seen several places want "start up costs" in the thousands, but never a place that takes $100 a week from your pay when you work for them.

I work 7 days a week because I WANT to and I like the money I make doing that. I have a daily personal goal that far exceeds what MTSO expects. I resent that I have to share my lines with on-and-off IC who just pops in whenever. Expecially when they pop in at the end of a pay period trying to get all their lines in 3 days. The MTSO knows when I am going to log on and she knows she can count on me. I should not have to share MY lines with an irresponsible sometimes IC. ...
If you are considering being a transcriptionist, do not waste your time, it is career suicide. There is no money in this field of work anymore and it is all going over seas where the people are paid practically nothing. ...
Hello fellow MTs,
In July, the only Acute Care Hospitals left in my area have been taken over by Nuance. Everything in my area has been taken over, as the rest of the country.
Basically, only the BIG GUYS are left anymore. They are eating up the rest of the smaller transcription companies.
I have been a transcriptionist since the age of 21, back in the typewriter days. I am now going to be 54 and have to stick it out until hopefully 60s.
I worked for MedQuist a few years ba ...
Did I read a post before that mentioned that MQ might be getting bought? Does anyone have any info on that? They were referring to changes being made, and trying to decide whether to stick it out or not.
TIA! ...
I have not seen any postings on the company for a few years. I actually was hired by this company 2 years ago and quit very fast as my first few days were not impressive. Tech support not calling me back, having to keep calling them, trouble with foot pedal not working. Just curious.. ...
Absolutely Petrified....too young for Social Security; too old to change careers. Went through this a few years back and honestly can't go through it again. I don't know how some people sleep at night. ...
Has anybody worked for Alltype (Jerry Kelly) in the past in NJ? Apparently they were bought out by Medquist or M*Modal in 2012. I worked very briefly for Alltype in 2011 and then moved on to brighter horizons, although they reported to the IRS that I earned 4x what is actually on my W2 and according to my bank records. IRS needs me to contact Alltype for verification but they no longer exist (number disconnected)... so what to do? Something is very fishy and the ...

I know this is beating a dead horse, but--
I'm seeing a slight increase in my pay. It's not as high as it used to be, but not as low as it recently was. Work is sometimes low enough that I'm almost having to log in first thing in the morning and log out before I go to bed to get the line count in, but I've heard it's going to get better. I've got an offer from another company that I have heard is not problem-free either. I just don't know. You know the old say ...
Hi, I hope you don't mind a visitor from the outside
I'm here because I need to change careers. I'm 59 , female, single, and have done one career all my life which has been clinical social work/mental health counseling.
I'm burned out with this career and alot has indicated that medical transcription might suit me.
Where do I begin?
What training do I need?
Do I need training at all? (this may sound dumb)

Please email me privately about this. It is best for all of us.
I have a couple of offers on my table and I need advice about which to take.
Global in Texas, GIS. Transolutions. Transform. Transcend. MD-IT in Colorado.
I have no idea who to say yes to. If they are employee and they have health insurance, what are the premiums? How are they to work for? Do you run out of work?
Many thanks, ...
Does anyone know anything about these two companies (work atmosphere, size of company, pay on time, etc., any helpful information)? I noticed that Clear Choice has openings for editors, but I'm wondering if they're QA editor or VR editor positions. From the pay rate advertised, I'm thinking VR editors. Thanks in advance for any information anyone can provide. ...
I was just wondering from anyone who has taken the CCS exam recently, is the whole exam multiple choice? I ask because I am taking the Andrews course and using the AHIMA-published workbooks and they are all multiple choice. I use a different skill set when doing these questions, work my way backward with deductive reasoning, reading the question and looking up each answer, eliminating the wrong ones. This seems faster to me and I want to work as fast as I can on the test. ...
I get a mix of SRE and transcribing jobs, with - of course - half line rate for SRE.
I have no idea who is "allowed" to dictate to the SRE platform for my company, but I can say that it's mighty strange that the worst dictators seem to predominate - and hence, you get a constant stream of SRE documents requiring very heavy editing.
Not infrequently, I get documents that are such garbage from beginning to end that there aren't three consecutive words that make any sense anywhere in th ...
I have recently seen several ads posted for Clear Choice Transcription. I see that now they are seeking new grads for these positions. I personally always like to know if there are red flags, etc. before I accept an offer. I felt the need to share my experience with the company. There is one manager who basically runs the show. Myself and a friend were both completely bullied by her for doing nothing short of trying to learn our job. If questions are asked, there are very abrasive an ...
Has anyone every had problems with this company? I have recently and am just wondering if this is how they do business? I have been an MT for 30+ years and have not encountered this before. ...

KOLKATA: CBay Systems — a leading healthcare BPO, that services nearly 40% of the US hospital market — is looking to become a $1-billion company and shift nearly half its work to India in the next two years.
