Hello all,

I've been reading your messages regarding MedQuist and I'm a little confused about something. I see that most people are complaining about how horrible they are to work for, but what I'm wondering is, isn't working for them better than not having a job at all? I have only a little experience and am having a very difficult time finding work. I have been contacted by MedQuist and all of this talk makes me nervous. I am in dire need of a job though, so I'm thinking 'why would it not be worth it to work for them just to have a job and get some experience?'

First find out if the schedule you want and the schedule they offer will fit. Then find out if your experience will match what they want. Myself, I was contacted by SoftScript just a few minutes before Medquist, and I took Medquist. Not that everything is fine, but every 2 weeks I have automatic deposit and am getting bills paid off a lot faster than without this job.

I have been working for MQ around 1-1/2 years. No problems at all. The absolute truth. This forum is mostly used by MQ employees who are unhappy with their jobs. I don't know where the happy people post - but I am 100% cool with MQ - may change, who knows...but going great for me. I am Tier III, full time/limited benefits, monday-friday, 8-4. My CCM is great and I rarely have NJA (no jobs available). In fact, can't remember the last time that happened. Always paid on time and have never been shorted on pay. Just my situation. I am sure this post will get some negative replies (saying I am a manager or something), but they are wrong. Just one happy employee.

I very rarely run out of work, its a good account, not a bunch of ESL. I am also a tier 3. I definitely miss typing, but I'm getting pretty fast with the SR stuff anyway. I also agree that there is a lot of negative comments out here, but I believe MQ pays probably the highest out of any place.

I think what is stressing me out is the knowledge that someday soon that could all change. I mean, I don't have NJA often, I have to say that. But I'm not too happy about certain things like when they nixed the weekend shift diff and then refused to let me stop working weekends. Didn't like the getting rid of the bonuses, such as they were. They basically do try to pay us the least they possibly can.

I know that if they could send ALL their work to India, they would, and they may one day without the least bit concern for their American workers. So I have no loyalty to them but I am happy to be working.

I am very happy at MQ also. I am a Tier 3, part-time, 7pm-12am M,8am-1pm T-F,love my accounts, always paid on time, and I don't even mind the ASR. I have a great CCM and must have a great team because our ASR is actually improving. If everyone works together and makes consistant changes to ASR, the system will figure it out but ONLY if everyone is correcting by typing over, not just deleting.

MQ is SO much better than the company I worked with before (SoftScript). SS was ALL ESL...thick, HEAVY ESL. Not sure if that is because they do not off-shore or what but if that is the reason, I say send the foreigner's dication to India and give me the Americans. Makes sense, they can understand their own. We can understand our own.

I would take the job with the caveat that you may - only end up with minimum wage.

I recently went back to Medquist. I do not understand what folks are finding so intolerable? I transcribe, they pay me and in between I am left alone. This is exactly what I want in an MTSO. There have been a few days with lighter work volume, but I let my CCM know and was assigned another account. Now, if you just want to learn 1 account and are picky, then you won't have work to do. Transcription these days, no matter who you work for, is a totally different animal than it was a while back. That is just a fact.

I get every single account in my region daily... yes, all 17 of them. Every day. Never 2 reports from the same clinic in a row even. I spend more time looking at client profiles than typing. It is crazy. I want to change regions to where I can get 1 or 2 accounts. My head is spinning.

Most people who post on here are definitely unhappy. I have been with MQ for 8 years now, 4 different CCMs, lucky with all of them. They leave me alone and I do my job and get paid. I'm not saying its perfect, but I never had a job that was. I don't make what I used to (to the tune of $24,000 less than 5 years ago), BUT I'm back in school to finish my degree to get a better job, and I'm still making $35K with benefits and doing it at home, so no, I can't complain.

Worked for caretech and loved it, although a lot of ESL. I don't think I'll stick around for this gig. I need more money than 3 cents a line and 8 cents for regular transcription, which you know most of it is SR.

I have focused so hard the past 2 years on NO distractions during work. I go like a banshee, taking bathroom breaks and fixing lunch, etc. but otherwise, no interruptions. It has really helped my production. But also, I was hired long ago and my straight transcription rate is high, and so is my 60% ASR rate. Even though, I am so confident that our jobs are going to be outsourced completely as soon as possible, I am finishing my degree while working full time, which is kind of hard, but will be worth it.

Way I look at they cheat me out of approximately 450-500 dollars a pay period. I have worked at getting people removed from ASR, but they always have an excuse. My production is high, but pay is low. I still have to take the time to go over everything and that is still my time, which is now worth much less than in the past. Oh well, nice day outside here and I am determined to stay happy despite this crummy job!

talk to no one on the phone during work hours. I have tried every shortcut known to me and some not. Still, my pay is down roughly 50%. I don't think working harder and keeping nose to the grindstone is helping me any, but sure making me hate my job.

I am so happy to have been hired at a top tier transcription rate and so is my 60% ASR rate. No complaints here. However I also work "like a bansheee" and maintain a disciplined work schedule, take few breaks while on the clock with few interruptions otherwise. And yes I am also completing my education while working FT with benefits. Well worth it!

I appreciate everyone's feedback. I am in such a tough place with the whole job search thing and just finishing school not long ago. I thouhgt that even the little experience I actually have would help, which my instructors kept telling me it would, but it hasn't. Job searching is exhausting!!!

I thought this ASR crap was supposed to get better as it "learns" the doctors and their frequently-used phrases... didn't someone say that back in training? I'm talking about DSG in particular, but I know a lot of people use DQS ASR, so please bear with me. So, how come it now can't seem to get a single sentence without major corrections having to be done? I'm about ready to apply at McDonald's if this keeps up... my pay is about 1/3 of what it was when we did straight ...

I was terminated for reasons I won't go into here--after 9+ years at my last employer. Thing is--I was looking anyway and informed potential employers that the company just was "no longer a good fit." What finally tipped the balance was an e-mail we got a few months ago stating that after an MT had sent a certain percentage of reports to editing for comprehension issues, for instance, they would be penalized 0.03 cpl for doing so! Assuming this is legal, IMO, it's immoral ...

Had not heard of this before. Now it is automated dictation. You know how the national weather service bulletins are computer generated voices, chopping and mispronouncing words, monotone, etc.? I really, really need another PT job right now, already work at MM, but am really getting close to broke. I have looked and am still looking for other non-MT jobs, but need extra money now. Has anyone noticed that fairly suddenly ASR recognition has gotten much worse. I know it was pretty bad before, but now I've noticed that even with the clear dictators where in the past the ASR recognition was okay, it's now HORRIBLE. Weren't we promised the ASR would get BETTER with time. Didn't they LOWER our pay when they said it got better before. I'm new to having to work work for a service. Recently the only work availabe has been the absolutely worst dictator I have ever done in my 25 years transcribing for hundreds of different doctors and specialties. With the platforms being used, can you tell if you are getting previous rejected jobs? There is no way to make more than $1. an hour with this guy. Does it seem that the ILPs are leaving blanks for anything and everything lately? I mean, most of the stuff is clear as day. Then it goes through 2 ILP QA and they can't get it either, although I have long since realized that the other levels of QA don't even look at the report but just send it on anyway. Any Transcenders out there noticing that all of a sudden the editing software is doing a more horrible job than normal? I'm having to format all over the place things that would usually be formatted correctly, and it is coming up with entire sentences that sound nothing like what the dictator is saying, and not just ESLs but regular American doctors.
