Now MTSO are offering 7 cents a line transcription and 3 cents editing?? When are we experienced MTs going to say enough is enough. 8 cents and 4 cents was bad enough, guess this is what they will try and get away with.

I've already said no to 8 and 4 cpl - and will say no to 7 and 3 also

I have many years of experience and I simply will not work for wages like that. My knowledge and experience are worth more that.

I guess the good news is that there really do seem to be many of us good MTs out here who won't work for peanuts like this. From what I have been hearing, the quality that the MTSOs are getting for pay like this is pretty terrible. Things like "baloney amputation" terrible.

what can we do? what is our alternative? Very competitive right now. The company I work for pays 7 cents and just told us now we get paid WITHOUT SPACES. 18% pay difference. Maybe we should all get emails going with the companies that pay more and are honest.

Quit! That's what I would do, because I certainly would not work for money like that.

With pay like that, I'd live and eat a whole lot better by just going on welfare and sitting on my duff all month. 7 cpl with or without, but especially without spaces, is probably enough to keep a roof over my head, but with no money left over for food, water or electricity.

It has to take a turn eventually. When I started transcription there was only talk of voice rec., now it is a reality. I can see how a newbie would just leave incorrect words in a report thinking it was correct. MTSOs might as well just send the voice rec stuff through without editors if all they want to pay is 3 cpl. Its basically the same thing with putting newbies on editing. I am thinking they are the only ones that will take the 3 cpl for the experience.

I was just looking over the job postings and pay is falling, falling, falling. I was working for 8 cpl back in 2004 or 2005. How is it that the numbers are coming down? And, to boot, don't be a "newbie", cause the big 7 cpl they pay is only for those with experience. You would have to type 200 lines per hour to make $14 p/h. Oh, and the ones that don't want to pay for spaces???? OMG...don't even get me started. Am I one of the lucky few still working for a hospital from home?

I've been an MT for just under 2 years. When I started, I was applying for jobs that were 6 or 7 cpl for newbies, about 9 or 10 cpl for experienced. I with a 6 cpl job because I was desperate and because other newbies here said they also worked for 6 cpl.

In the last few months I've been looking for a new job, and pay for MTs with experience is now 6 or 7 cpl. I think experienced MTs who NEEDED a job ended up with a lot of the "newbie" jobs, and MTs are taking advantage of that.

FWIW, my first job was an MTSO charging the doctor 12 cpl with spaces but paying me 6 without spaces. I doubt most of these MTSOs are hurting financially, and I've yet to hear anything that indicates the low pay is coming from doctors/hospitals. I think it's entirely from the MTSOs.

I thought this ASR crap was supposed to get better as it "learns" the doctors and their frequently-used phrases... didn't someone say that back in training? I'm talking about DSG in particular, but I know a lot of people use DQS ASR, so please bear with me. So, how come it now can't seem to get a single sentence without major corrections having to be done? I'm about ready to apply at McDonald's if this keeps up... my pay is about 1/3 of what it was when we did straight ...

I was terminated for reasons I won't go into here--after 9+ years at my last employer. Thing is--I was looking anyway and informed potential employers that the company just was "no longer a good fit." What finally tipped the balance was an e-mail we got a few months ago stating that after an MT had sent a certain percentage of reports to editing for comprehension issues, for instance, they would be penalized 0.03 cpl for doing so! Had not heard of this before. Now it is automated dictation. You know how the national weather service bulletins are computer generated voices, chopping and mispronouncing words, monotone, etc.? Has anyone noticed that fairly suddenly ASR recognition has gotten much worse. I know it was pretty bad before, but now I've noticed that even with the clear dictators where in the past the ASR recognition was okay, it's now HORRIBLE. Weren't we promised the ASR would get BETTER with time. Didn't they LOWER our pay when they said it got better before. I'm new to having to work work for a service. Recently the only work availabe has been the absolutely worst dictator I have ever done in my 25 years transcribing for hundreds of different doctors and specialties. With the platforms being used, can you tell if you are getting previous rejected jobs? There is no way to make more than $1. an hour with this guy. Does it seem that the ILPs are leaving blanks for anything and everything lately? I mean, most of the stuff is clear as day. Then it goes through 2 ILP QA and they can't get it either, although I have long since realized that the other levels of QA don't even look at the report but just send it on anyway. Any Transcenders out there noticing that all of a sudden the editing software is doing a more horrible job than normal? I'm having to format all over the place things that would usually be formatted correctly, and it is coming up with entire sentences that sound nothing like what the dictator is saying, and not just ESLs but regular American doctors.
