They don't care - old and burned out

Posted: Aug 16, 2011

How many times do you have to be hit on the head before you realize that THEY DON'T CARE.  MQ is on its own path.  You can write all the letters you want, contact the president, congresspeople, newspapers, TV, etc.  MQ DOES NOT CARE.  You could drop dead in front of their executive offices and they would just step over you.  THEY DON'T CARE!  The only thing that will ever turn this around is if hospitals refuse to accept off-shore work but considering the financial pressures they are under, it does not seem likely.  So write your letters, go on strike, march on their offices.  THEY DON'T CARE.

I hear you shouting MQ does not care. The real question is, what are YOU willing to do WITH OTHERS to make them care? If you are feeling old and burned out, perhaps working with others could be rejuvenating, especially working WITH a professional social worker and organizer who has fought these battles before--and successfully. How do you make a giant care? You make them listen--and there is only one way to do that. Going it alone or giving up is not going to do that. TAKING BACK YOUR VOICE will, in CONCERT WITH OTHERS. MQ will care when it is more cost-effective to pay MTs fairly for SR than not. The off-shore concerns are already being addressed, precisely because we have concrete, no-holds-barred evidence that it is IMPOSSIBLE for offshore work to be compliant with HIPAA. Anyone who knows how the Internet really works, knows this. By definition, ALL offshore work is HIPAA noncompliant.

How many patients would continue to see a provider if they KNEW that someone in India is listening to their medical information? My data indicate that fewer than half would. We are working with state (not federal) legislators to give patients a choice about who hears their medical information, with full disclosure of "business associates." Imagine how hard it will be for hospitals to outsource transcription if they have to weed through each HIPAA form to determine who will, and who will not, permit their medical information to be heard outside that particular hospital!

We are also working with state legislatures to ensure that all MTs will be licensed and/or registered, and that work spaces and work computers are inspected for compliance. We estimate that with requiring registration, we can increase MT pay commensurate with what RNs are earning. Hospitals will have to look elsewhere for places to cut their budgets. Hospitals rarely close per se. They just get absorbed by more cost-effective hospitals.

TAKE BACK YOUR VOICE! Join the movement to ensure SR is equitable with straight transcription!

HIPAA in the US is noncomplient also with most MTs working from home, where who knows who has access to those computers. I don't know any company who checks out the location of their MTs computers in the household or who does a background check on all who live in the household and seriously doubt there will be any laws requiring them to do so, not cost effective considering the number of MT homes they would have to pay someone to check out and the countless number of people in those households to do a background check on. On my accounts, every report has the SS number of the patient in the demographic information (client preference and not MQ because I asked about it because I was concerned). In my opinion, no different than offshore and certainly makes HIPAA a joke. Does credentialling or licensing make an MT honest and, again, what about others who have access to those computers in all those homes, should they also be required to pay for a license? I just don't see how licensing makes any difference other than some company profits from the fees for such...a big scam in my opinion.

Further, most people don't care where their health records are transcribed. The many times I have brought it up in conversation with friends and family, the response I get is "so what, they already have my credit card information, bank information, etc., and with the click of a mouse anyone in the world can find out anything about anyone they want, what's the difference?" So, I stopped worrying about it because they are right. It is a global society and nothing is secret anymore. HIPAA is a joke.

This is what I think about hospital - and off-shore work.

[ In Reply To ..]
I seriously think some hospital accounts do not know their work are being off-shored. I think MQ just sends the work out to India and then brings it back to the USA and make it look like USA actually are doing the work and then charge the hospitals an obscene amount of money for the work being done. If that does not work (accounts are finding out about it and do not approve because they forgot to mention it on their contract) then the ASR comes into play without the hospitals knowing about it and again, paying an obscene amount of money for it.

After all, been with this company for 20 years. The practices they have done are down right evil. For example, overcharging hospitals (how many times???), cheating on MT's pay (how many times???). Gee whiz, how many times has MQ been in lawsuits with companies overcharging and lawsuits with MT's being cheated on pay???

They're the Enron of the medical world. - n/m

Another Sad Option For Medical Care Is Charity Care. Work With The People
Nov 06, 2014

...bills. Most Saint hospitals and others actually operate as non-profits, and for what they are screwing us over in taxes unpaid, they can afford to help out folks with their bills and still give their CEOs generous stock options and obscene salaries! But, you have to ask for this after your visit, treatment, x-ray, or ER visit. ASK for help if you need it. It is not our fault that suits are in charge of medical care in this country.  ...

MDs Don't Care, So Why Should We?
Sep 02, 2011

There you are, sittin at your desk, slammin your head into yet another mumbled dictation, desperately trying to divine the meaning of the muttering, frantically googling, stedman's open on your lap, cursing all foreign doctors everywhere, and then you get it! After ten minutes of listening intently, tilting your head to one side, pressing the headphones tighter, slowing down the incoherent ramblings, you finally figured it out. Feel proud afterwards right? Well, maybe you shouldn't. ...

Q-Care Help, Please
Mar 05, 2012

Can someone help  me, please? I thought I was organized, but realize I can't get into Q-care. Is that somethiing I was supposed to set up separately? I've tried everything and it says "error." I've tried my Ultipro password, e-mail address, Team Work password, everything. I'm one of those who was sort of "thrown in" during the takeover and had very little free time to set everything up. I Just Don't Care Any More
Aug 07, 2014

FIESA and its humiliating and debasing scores, micromanagment, a bitchy supervisor, crap dictators, have all contributed to my feeling of just not caring any more.  I clock in, do my time, and clock out.  I know that my work is good and that my QA is much higher than FIASCO says it is, but I just don't care anymore. I am one of the older workers, and I have this feeling that NUisANCE is trying to get me to quit.  Well, guess what?  They're not going to win.  I& ...

Do You Care About Incentive
Mar 11, 2010

I work in-house doing radiology transcription, mostly VR.  The pay is hourly and there is no overtime on our job but there is also no incentive.  I'm trying to cut my expenses to have extra money but its tough.  I would like to work an extra few hours to save for vacation/a better running car/other purchases. Is there something wrong when a company does not offer incentive for MTs or should I be "just thankful for having a job when so many people are out of work in ...

You Know What, I Don't Care Anymore
May 31, 2011

I started in this profession back in the late 70s, learning "in house, on the job," my first job working from home, was when my kids were approximately 9 and 11 and obviously, not infants.  My mother was dying at that time, and I answered a local ad in the paper to pick up tapes in 1997 and transcribe for 5 cents a line.  Fast forward to the early 90s, we now have the "Lady Madonna Syndrome" -- meaning, I want to stay at home with my six or more children, home school and be SUPER mamma ...

Reporting F11 On Self Care

I keep a log of my F11s and report then all at once, at the end of the day, like instructed since a couple of months ago.  I apparently left one number out of the IJ# last week and just got a phone call.  I got chewed out about ABUSING F11!    I got so angry that I argued back that as the person that is having to attempt to decipher a ESL dictator using a poor quality system with disgustingly poor audio quality that I should be given a MEDAL to have made heads AND tails ...

How Much Evidence Do You Need That They Do Not Care?
Nov 30, 2011

I keep seeing posts here that include phrases like "if they cared about us..."  They don't care and have never cared.  My company was bought out about 15 years ago when we were still working in an office.  The story of how they moved us from our office to the "new" office is horrible enough to be part of a Stephen King novel and would make your skin crawl.  This is a company that operates by threats, intimidation and punishment and, after all these years, with all the ev ...
