I started in this profession back in the late 70s, learning "in house, on the job," my first job working from home, was when my kids were approximately 9 and 11 and obviously, not infants. My mother was dying at that time, and I answered a local ad in the paper to pick up tapes in 1997 and transcribe for 5 cents a line. Fast forward to the early 90s, we now have the "Lady Madonna Syndrome" -- meaning, I want to stay at home with my six or more children, home school and be SUPER mamma!!! Whom do you think takes care of those children? As a taxpayer, I do -- I made a CHOICE -- that was to have 2 children and I raised them the best that I could and as a SINGLE mother I might add with no help from their "sperm donor."
Quite frankly, I am sick and tired hearing about unions -- I have a B.A. i Management and did my thesis on "the American Worker versus the Japanese Worker." The BIGGEST difference was if something happened, the Japanese were still guaranteed a lifetime job with benefits and if that worker died, a family member was hired on. At the time that I was working in the "private sector" and doing work towards my degree, we had SEVERAL strikes occur at Catepillar. At that time (and I am talking 1981), we had men come in who were making $50/hour at Cat, but had to apply for jobs and they could not understand why we could only offer them maybe $15//hour and they refused -- they actually made more on unemployment.
MANY want tol blame things on "the current administrations;" however, this has been going on since the turn of the century. Unions are also VERY muched based on socialism and not a democracy, which America was founded upon.
I am not happy going with a company who has me on a time clock, i have a job and plenty of work and for those of you whom are ICs, they are asking for coverage. I was an IC before my current job, paid weekly made great money, but lost the account because the client felt we were not meeting TAT.
