Starting with MQ in 3 weeks - any advice? - micdel

This is going to be my first job as an MT, and I was wondering if any experienced MTs (especially those working at MQ) have any good advice about anything across the board. Thanks.

Congrats on getting your new job. I hope you will do well.

There are a lot of service areas in MQ, some have a lot of work, some have very little. I am sure they will keep you busy though.

There are many unhappy, disillusioned employees who have been with MQ a long time, (I am one of them) but do not get discouraged. Get what experience you can with MQ. Soak everything in that you can. Keep a lot of reference materials nearby (or use the Benchmark if you are getting that, too).

I really cannot tell you how I myself feel about MQ because it isn't good, but we all have different experiences. I guess I have been here too long.

As I said, just keep focused, don't get discourged, and if you get a bad audit, don't let it get you down because we all make mistakes. Just learn from it, write down what you got dinged for and just remember it.

You will be fine. This is your first MT job and you should be so happy about that.

Just remember, if you are going to be coming on this board, that we all have had vastly different experiences with MQ.

Yours will be uniquely your own.

Not sure if you know about the new policy at the Q. You will be paid 3 cpl less than what your hiring rate is for anything sent to QA over 10% (April 1st) and 5% (May 1st).

I copied this from the e-mail I received which is an exception for newbies:

Special Considerations for New Hires

During the 45-day New Hire Training Period, all lines that are submitted by new hires that exceed the QA submission thresholds will be paid at the reduced rate. However with this calculation, New Hires remain eligible to be compensated at a minimum of $10.00 per hour or the employee's PPR (periodic production rate), whichever is higher during the 45-day New Hire Training Period.

I guess at least you will make 10.00 per hour for the first 45 days and after that, make sure you only submit 5% or less, but make sure you don't leave blanks for the client that could be filled in on an audit, because then they will put you back on 100% QA and you will be paid 3 cpl less than your rate the entire time until cleared.

It seems like a catch 22 and I really think that is where they want you, between a rock and a hard place.

The best advice, LOOK EVERYTHING UP. Use searches. Write down feedback. Get a list of MQ approved search sites and use them.

I started right before Christmas. They gave me training pay for 1 pay period, that's all. Still arguing over it.

That does not surprise me coming from MQ. - They are crooks. (no message below).

What if I don't give a 2 week notice? Is it really gonna hurt me? I doubt they give detailed information about what kind of employee you were. Maybe just dates. I have heard not one word. No calls, no e-mails, nothing. I am a CMT with over 25 years of experience, experience in every specialty, huge hospitals, etc. Am I too experienced and do they think I would want too much money? Why wouldn't they at least ask? Do you think it is necessary to give 2 weeks notice if I am ALWAYS out of work. For example I should be done with my 8 hour shift in an hour and I am not even half way through the day due to being out of work on my primary and ALL of my back ups. Worked here for over 20 years. Been MT of the month 3 times with pay raises only to be grandfathered in to lose my raises and have the same pay I started working for this company. Then I slowly get no jobs available for the past 3 months. For these last 2 weeks?? I get on all hours of the day and night and this is what my pay comes too?? but accounts in my own BOB, I started getting ALL non-BOB today even though apparently there was plenty of work on my primary. So I though, hmmmm, I bet I'm getting audited....sure enough......I looked in statistics and I WAS.
