Shipwrecked, Bunion and Sunshine State, our retirement home. - Dinosaur

Posted: Feb 18, 2010

Hi ladies,

I have no work again today, so I had some time to do this.  I live in the North and as I look out my window all I see is snow (measured in feet), and I really hate the winter.  I thought it would cheer me up to post more pics of our retirement home.  I must admit I did get a little carried away, and there will probably be another post with even more pics.  I have included in these pics different huts, water, beach and inland, but I could not resist posting some pics of the island itself, it is beautiful.

Shipwrecked, didn't you say you could could cook and weave?  Both would be very useful here.  They use palm leaves to weave hats, beach bags, beach mats, etc.  You could learn some of the traditional island recipes and sell them on the beach while I paint the scenery and/or take people scuba diving or snorkeling, Bunion and Sunshine can weave and make necklaces out of flowers and shells.  We will be mixing work with fun and supplementing our retirement money.

Hey... I insist you take me along! - Captain Morgan

[ In Reply To ..]
All I know how to do is type and clean, so I guess I will do all of the hut cleaning. Now I just have to come up with a name for my hut cleaning business....

Welcome aboard Captain Morgan - Dinosaur

[ In Reply To ..]
Captain Morgan's Cleaning sounds good.
You could use this for a slogan "We'll have your hut Ship-shape and Bristol fashion in no time."

Working on it - shipwrecked

I'll work on a name for your service. Huts R Us comes to mind, but I don't like it much.

Huts-R-Us - Huts-R-Us

[ In Reply To ..]
Possible names:
Huts-R-Us
Merry Maidens
Squeeky Huts
Huts-2-Go
Hula Huts & Suds

Those ideas are awesome! - C.M.

[ In Reply To ..]
Merry Maidens is my favorite!
I love them all though! Now, can you come up with a name for mine and Bunions Coconut Moonshine?
Huts-R-Us & Moonshine - Huts-R-Us
[ In Reply To ..]
Hmmm... O.K. Possible business names
Barefoot & Bunions Grog & Grub
Moonshine & Roses
Moonshine Shadows...

MQ waaaaaay South - shipwrecked

Yeah, I've got feet of snow also, with a little shovel-width path to the street.

My hut will be on the beach. Why go there and live inland! In one of the pics there are mountains. I like that.

Where does the "waste" go? Running water? I think we'll need a little runabout to get to a big island to get supplies.

I'm a sailer, so maybe I can get a sailboad and take tourists for a sail.

Sailing is a great skill! - Dinosaur

[ In Reply To ..]
That is a great idea. I will even go half on the boat. You can sail us out there, I will take tourists diving, then you can sail them around the island. I think we have just moved up to upper middle class hut status!

We can get a golf cart for cruising around our little island. Your right about the runabout. We will be able to find some supplies on our tiny island, but for some things we will need to make a trip.

I did like you slogan for Captain Morgan's cleaning business.

Fresh water runs off the mountains inland from streams and waterfalls from the rains in the higher elevations. Its processed, and huts have running water, but they do try to conserve water.

Solid waste and sewage are collected at pumping stations and waste reception facilities where it then transferred to a larger island and disposed of according to environmental standards. Medical waste is incinerated.

Those pictures are uplifting Dinosaur! My bags are packed . . . - Sunshine State MT

Although my 3 little dogs will need to accompany me, and the husband can be ditched!

I am bringing my little dog too, husband???? - Dinosaur

I'm still thinking on that one. I will have more pictures of our retirement home soon.

I have family and friends in the Sunshine State. I understand it is chilly there too. I am from the "freeze your butt off state" not a palm tree in sight. I can't wait to get to this island of paradise.

I'd like an extra hut to take in all the abandoned/abused dogs! - Sunshine State MT

We could use them later to help shipwrecked gather all the coconuts.

I'm ready now ladies . . . .

Used to live in Hawaii and so this is bringing back lots of good memories!

p.s. - We need to make sure there is no quarantine for our little pets. When we went to Hawaii our little dog had to go through quarantine for 190 days! That was a bummer!

Hope you all have a productive day!

Shipwrecked, Here Are Pics Of Our Retirement Home
Jan 31, 2010

Here are some pictures of that beautiful little island I have chosen to live out the rest of my days.  Since you wanted to spend your remaining days there too, I thought you would want to see the pictures.  As you can see there are plenty of huts to choose from, I'm not sure which kind I want yet, but I am favoring one of those huts that are in the water.  I have also sent a picture of the island from an aerial view so you can see how small it is. I heard Bill gates gave aw ...

Applying For Out-Of-State Positions To Work From Home
May 21, 2014

Not sure if this has been discussed here before, but wanted to throw this question out there. Has anyone been successful with applying for an out-of-state position that does not clearly state NO TELECOMMUTING/WORK FROM HOME, asked if you could work from home for that employer, and they accommodated you?  ...

Shipwrecked, I Found You The Perfect...

retirement hut.  It is on the inner island.  If it makes you feel better there is no tsunami and/or hurricane season in this area of the South Pacific. Bunion, I was not sure of your island preference, water, beach or inner island hut.  There are plenty to choose from. Shipwrecked, you may have NJA tonight (I have it almost everyday as well), but it won't be long before we say "Q who" and move into these huts in paradise.  http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/common ...

Bunion
Mar 23, 2010

My question got buried below, but you said you received UE.  What sort of proof did you have, if any?  I'm kind of in a rough spot here, I have been with this company 16 years and have jumped through the hoops but I can't anymore.  I've also battled the NJA screen and begged for work.  So if anyone has anymore to offer it would be greatly appreciated.  I'm unable to work at the moment.  I also spoke to Rosemary, she seemed very helpful over ...

About Retirement: Don't Do It If You Don't Have To
Apr 03, 2015

I'm not saying to stay on at a horrible job that you hate. Do something else if you need to, but retirement is not always as great as we've always told it would be. When I look around me, I see all the retired people wishing they had something to do, somewhere to go, and a little bit of money to spend. Their brains don't get a very good workout.  Stay active! Don't retire unless you have to. ...

Retirement Plus Still Typing PT
Sep 19, 2011

MTs:  I presently work for an outsource company which has sold its MT division to another outsource company.   I will be 62 yo come January.  I am to the point now of seriously thinking about taking early retirement and only working PT 20 hours a week. If I do that I would actually be making more money that way than I would be working the 50+ hours a week I do now.   The thing that I am concerned about is I would have no health insurance unless I pay for it out of my own poc ...

Transcription Vs Retirement
Nov 21, 2011

Has anyone faced this problem?  Worked at home many years in radiation oncology then because of by out from hospital I was transfered to medical transcription department for training. When I showed up for training I was told that they "didn't quite know what to do with me". Showed up for daily training only to be sent home because volume was low. Eventually, realized that they didn't want to train me so I decided to retire. Is there any recourse? ...

Early Retirement ?
Dec 17, 2012

Benefits And Retirement?
Oct 20, 2013

My minimal wage MT job is offering benefits and retirement account. Wouldn't getting benefits not to mention retirement account eat further into the small-sum paycheck I get now so that it's questionable whether I can pay for food or rent? The way they offer benefits, you think they pay a "normal" amount of money. By the way, is it required to enroll in healthcare benefits now that there's a new healthcare law? ...

Medical Transcription After Retirement
May 21, 2012

I transcribed for over 40 years, and when I do test now, I usually test up to 95%, and that is just not good enough even for a company I previously worked for that went outsourcing after freezing us out of work.  I really loved transcribing and would do it again in a heartbear if I could get a good, steady part-time source.  Any suggestions or recommendations?  Thank you.  I am in Glendale, AZ if that will help.  ...

Part Time And Saving For Retirement

State Of The Malunion
Apr 15, 2010

I Googled "medical transcription quality India" and received 671,000 results to choose from.  Indian companies are courting hospitals, doctors, and law firms in America and several other countries in order to get their business. American MTSOs that don't outsource really need to publicize it and American based transcriptionists would do well to show their solidarity by working for such companies.  It is not just MQ.  The industry is apparently wounded in t ...

Sad, Sad State Of Affairs
Dec 02, 2011

All the threads about fighting to get paid minimum wage (you go, girls!) make me incredibly sad.  So I started reminiscing about my early days in the profession.... Registering As An IC With Your State
