I fondly remember when I started with this company (actually have gone thru too numerous to count buyouts). I actually enjoyed coming to work and being rewarded with typing more than the required.
Now almost every day, I dread coming to work. I know that the majority of my work wiill have deplorable audio quality. Investing in "good, quality" headphones and Boostaroo is/'was of absolutely no help whatsoever. Quit wondering why they won't fix it and have resigned myself to the fact that frankly they don't give a $&*@.
The OT is getting old as well. Sitting here 9+ hours a day hard. Me eyes hurt, my back hurts, my wrists hurt, my head is pounding. For what? A few measly dollars after taxes? Those of you that claim to make over $16 and hour, good for you. I don't think with the garbage I get you would be able to.
this is all so messed up with the POD system. We work hard and do wet a bonus? can't wait to see what MT week will bring. Betting the same people will get the same prizes as usual.

I do know someone making $21 an hour - Better than the good old days

She's now a credentialed coder with both CPC and CCS, stopped MT completely, even though she thought she might do it PT. She hasn't looked back. It took about a year of training and a $600 down payment to get to $40,000/year, and she can't stop talking about how much she loves her job. The reason that it's better than the good old days is nobody is threatening her about quotas and TAT. Now that's what I'm talkin' about.

[ In Reply To ..]I figured this out, too. If you have a lot of experience doing this work, you get the worse dictators, and if you are like me, you cannot get a consistent account, as they have you all over the place. It's awful. Easing my way out the door....,

[ In Reply To ..]Are not paid equally. I may make the same rate as someone else but because they have easier accounts or vice versa there can be a big difference in how much we make. Maybe it is time to pay us hourly, and fairly. Sure it is good to have some control to make more, but eith the horrible ASR, sound, dictators it gets harder and harder to increase your lines...mine seem to just go down more often even though my stress level and frustrations go up!

[ In Reply To ..]I agree with you completely. I don't know who is making $16.00 an hour doing this. You could make it before speech wreck (recognition). Maybe it is a few of the "special ones" LOL. That being said I am so glad I went part-time. Mandatory overtime must be for the ones getting insurance benefits. Anyways, this is hard work where you have to pretty be doing something constantly to make a buck. Good luck and God bless, though.

I miss the lively atmosphere of a transcription room filled with other transcriptionists, with doctors strolling in and out, joking, grabbing from the tray of homemade goodies someone had brought in to share. I am in quite a quandy right now. I have been out of work as an MT now for 3 months due to a layoff. I started off in this field 15 years ago earning 11 cents a line for a transcription company. My last job paid me 9 cents a line. Now I am looking to find a part-time job and I can't find anything over 8 cents a line. Today I had a 35 minute report by one of the worst dictators. On top of that her phone line is really bad. I did the best I could and ended up sending the report to QA. QA was able to fill in about half of the blanks that I had. I ended up sending an e-mail to my supe to see if anything could be done about her phone line, and if she could please listen to the report. For some unknown reason my footpedal just decides to stop working this morning and I spend hours to get it going again. I finally get back into my groove, only to get a dictation that is 29 minutes long with only 4 minutes of actual dictating! I can never get ahead and get a decent line count anymore. I have 10 more days of transcription then I am done. First let me thank Jesus for getting me out of this misery.
