MME - really more pay potential or not? - MTinCA

Posted: Oct 08, 2011

It has been suggested to me by my CCM that I apply for MME position, stating I will definitely make more $$$.  My gut says no I won't but I have nothing to back that up.  Any first-hand experience out there to confirm or negate my intuition?

dont know about money - but

I think they will be the only MTs left, and I believe you bounce all over the place work pool wise, no regular account so you have to know a lot of client profiles.

MME pay - BH

MME? Why does it say MT/MME on my paystub and I am not a proofer? I still get 8 cpl for TR and .048 cpl for SR jobs.

Are you sure it doesn't say MT/ME? - with only one M

No, it says MT/MME PTLB (whatever that means). It also says Tier 3 MT at the left. (This is in Ultipro.)

It depends - MME

I'm an MME and make 8 cpl straight, 4.8 cpl ASR, and 4 cpl 100% QA/3 cpl just filling in blanks. You get a 5% raise from your base when you become an MME, but honestly, I haven't seen my pay change for the better, mostly the same. I suppose it depends on the accounts you get. The less ILPs and 100% QA, the more you're going to make. It also depends on how good you are at filling in blanks, obviously. You also get thrown into the whole pool, going by TAT rather than account, so you need to know all the CPs.

The only real bonus is that you have that slight bit of advantage over an MT/ME when they start thinning the herd, which is the primary reason I took the position.

There was a thread on here all about this a few - weeks or a month ago SM

possibly? Check it out. Not a lot positive about MME position.

Just wanted to add to my post that I think - you have to weigh SM

[ In Reply To ..]
the pros and cons according to YOUR strengths and weaknesses. Get all the info you can, and hopefully you can make a better informed decision as to how it might work for you. It would be awful for me as I cannot remember different CPs and would spend most of my time figuring that out. Obviously, my pay would go down.
Exactly - MME
[ In Reply To ..]
You are exactly correct. Myself, I'm good with remembering the CPs and good at research. My problem is that I *know* I can fill in the blank and I spend overly long researching, which cuts my pay. I'm trying to become better at just letting some blanks go after a certain amount of time as I really can't afford being stubborn.

MT/ME/MME, one of the only jobs where you get punished the more difficult the job is and for trying to get things perfect.
You Said That PERFECTLY ... - MME TOO
[ In Reply To ..]
I, too, spend too much time figuring out the blanks. And we get the worst of the worst because nobody wants to send to QA anymore unless they really have to. And if somebody does send to QA, it is usually a ton of blanks, not just a few. Definitely not worth 3 cents a line to go over the whole report of some really terrible dictators.

whole pool - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
When you say the "whole pool" do you mean your own bob, or your region, or the whole U.S.?

When just filling in blanks, is there usually a necessity to check the CP?

Do they keep track of how many blanks you are able to fill in?

Thanks for the info.

For the most part, I believe it to be the whole BOB. However, your CCM will choose what accounts you should be getting, so it really is variable. There are some accounts I get from other CCMs in my region, but I don't think I get every one.

When just filling in blanks, you have to also skim for formatting and ADT as that is the easiest to spot without reading the whole thing, so yes, you do have to check the CP, but they have an option where you can check the CP without going into your internet browser. It opens up as a small window right in DQS and is very quickly accessed and closed. I don't understand why they don't put this feature for non-QA work as I believe it is far superior than having to push F5.

As far as I know they do not keep track of blanks, but I really can't say for sure as they're sneaky. You do get audited on your QA work as well as MT/ME work.
how much QA vs. MT/ME? - MT
[ In Reply To ..]
Thanks for the information!
How much QA work do you receive compared to MT/ME? Do you keep your primary account for the MT/ME portion of the job?
More answers - MME
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm sure it differs from one person to the next, but my QA/ST/ASR percentages are probably 10/10/80, although I am being generous on straight transcription versus ASR work.

As for keeping your primary, not really. You get the same pools as you do when QAing and type them in order of TAT. Once again, your CCM or RTL will have ultimate control on what pools you get.
Addendum - MME
[ In Reply To ..]
If you get a new account or there are new MTs, the QA percentage will go up significantly as 100% of the typed work from those accounts and/or new MTs will be QAd. Even if you type one of those reports, sometimes it will come right back to you to be QAd.

Thanks! - MT

Tell The Potential 2nd Employer About The 1st?
Sep 20, 2011

Took me quite awhile to figure this out. You need 2 MT jobs because they all overhire to keep many more employees less busy to pay less. In my day, you kept your 2nd job quiet, but what is the way to do it now? Is it good or bad to be looking for a 2nd part-time job, do you tell them. Is there anyone who left the first job to go full time with the 2nd one or switched them? And is it better to go IC in the 2nd job because of flexibility? I sound pretty dumb! ...

Need Advice For A Potential Client

Hi, I wondered if some of you who have your own accounts or who have had your own accounts could give me some information.  I have been asked if I would like a part-time dermatology account as an independent contractor in my town.  They said I needed my own transcription software with ability to provide itemized report with invoices.  I know I could use Express Scribe, but what would I need for the itemized report with invoices.  Sorry if this is a dumb question, but would l ...

For Any Potential New Nuance Acquisition
Jun 21, 2014

Every time there is a hospital or clinic acquisition, those "acquired" MTs will be crammed onto existing accounts as their own account/work types become more streamlined and less available as more and more of it is done more efficiently with voice wreck and 3 shifts of people to do the work. Think of it like when a larger dog moves into a pen already crowded with too many dogs. All the pre-existing dogs have to scooch over yet again (exist on less) to make room for the new dog in the cage.& ...

Isnt It Illegal For A Potential Employer To Ask Your Age?
Nov 16, 2009

Have any of you had the feeling you weren't getting callbacks from employers you applied with because of your age?  I've been getting that feeling, and I thought that discrimination based on age, among other things, was illegal. So of course, the answer would be to just not fill in your date of birth, right?  Well, lately I've applied at a few places where the ONLY way to apply was online.  I had actually called them because I wanted to either come in and fill out ...

Potential To Switch From Straight Transcription To SR?
May 15, 2013

Hi - I have been doing acute care work for this client as an IC for almost two years. While I enjoy the work, I know it is probably in my best interest to start doing some SR work as well. The company I work for just asked their ICs if anyone is interested in learning the SR platform for some new SR work that is coming onboard. I am currently only making .07 cpl! I know that SR line rates are generally lower since the "assumption" is you can go a bit faster, can anyone give me a fair id ...

For All Potential Candidates. Truth In Recruitment Advertising
Apr 01, 2015

Nuance is first and foremost a software company that depends upon poorly paid MTs to do the work of software engineers to perfect speech recognition software. By pretending to be a legitimate MTSO, they can recruit innocent MTs straight out of school who have no expectations of being self-sufficient any time soon. They use you, though, until the speech wreck is in passable condition for front-end EHR or shipment off to India. Once this occurs, usually 6 to 8 weeks after acquisition of the accoun ...
