Potential to switch from straight transcription to SR? - SeriousMT
Posted: May 15, 2013
Hi -
I have been doing acute care work for this client as an IC for almost two years. While I enjoy the work, I know it is probably in my best interest to start doing some SR work as well. The company I work for just asked their ICs if anyone is interested in learning the SR platform for some new SR work that is coming onboard. I am currently only making .07 cpl! I know that SR line rates are generally lower since the "assumption" is you can go a bit faster, can anyone give me a fair idea as to what kind of line rate I should expect and what would be comparable in terms of straight dictation at .07 cpl?
Much appreciated --
Many find they can ST faster than SR. And many find it - mind-numbingly boring. nm

More than 50% pay cut (sm) - Angie

Those of us who were ICs already took a 50% pay cut by having to work for an MTSO at .07 CPL. Then cut that by a drop in productivity, i.e. we can no longer depend on expansion programs to give us that 25-40% boost in productivity (which compensated for no raises in 20+ years). Then to cut our line rate 50% AGAIN! These MTSOs have the stats in their software that show that no, we do not spend half the time editing as we did transcribing, yet they will not offer a fair wage.

What you can make depends on the dictator's level of competence, which is sadly lacking these days. Many cannot or will not enter the required patient demographic which means more free labor correcting their non-stop errors.
I've done MT for almost 30 years and never have I seen such a decline in dictation skills and common sense. These sloppy dictators can consume most of your time just correcting their errors and doing free research. If it was JUST proofreading, it would be fine, but you can only proof/edit as fast as the dictator will spit the words out and the longer they spend chewing their sandwich, having conversations with someone who walked in the office, flipping through a chart looking for lab results is just more unpaid labor on our part.
What the MTSO are trying to claim, that we can do the work in half the time is total BS!

Potential Major Development For The Medical Transcription Industry - Sm Apr 29, 2015Dr. Wyatt, a physician affiliated with The Joint Commission, just released an article recommending that the TJC become involved in helping to create new standards and protocols for the medical transcription industry. His article addressed the vast majority of the issues that negatively impact the dictation/transcription process and the need to fix these problems because of their potential for jeopardizing patient safety. Among the many things mentioned in the article that he feels ne ...

Increased ASR, Less Straight Transcription?? Oct 24, 2010Anybody notice increased ASR in the last week or 2, with less straight typing. Just when I thought I had already hit the lowest I possibly could, they do this. I was at least getting between 100-300 transcription lines before, now all the sudden lucky to get any. My pay has already been deposited in the bank, down another $100 from before. What do they want next, blood? ...
VR Versus Straight Transcription Apr 28, 2011With my company I get about 80% editing and 20% straight transcription, about half as much per line editing as for transcription, of course. Personally, I'd rather transcribe a difficult dictator than edit most anyone. My pet peeve is when a difficult dictator's reports (which used to be transcribed) gets changed to editing status, and it takes just as long to fix the VR document but now at about half as much pay. ...

Straight Transcription Counted As ASR Nov 25, 2013Noticed today that my one and only transcription report, was counted as an ASR job. What? Check your stats, make some type of notation. Shouldn't let this type of thing go... ...

IC For 7 Cents A Line For Straight Transcription....sm Aug 23, 2011and 3 cents for VR? Unbelievable! Straight Transcription, Opinions Wanted Sep 25, 2013I would like to know others' opinions on the state of "straight transcription"...is there any kind of future for it, or will the few jobs remaining gradually fade out? What Determines Which Reports Are SR And Which Are Straight Transcription? Jan 16, 2014I'm just curious how the clients and/or MTSO's determine this. There are also some excellent dictators that come through for transcription rather than SR. Is this a decision the doctors can usually make? ...

MTSOs - Why Anyone Would Do VR For 0.03 Per Line Or Straight Transcription For 0.07 Per Line Mar 13, 2012It's beyond me why anyone would do VR for 0.03 per line or straight transcription for 0.07 per line, even 0.08 stinks. Are we all that desperate to let these companies get away with not paying a living wage? It's outrageous.
