Is kilos now acceptable? - ASR

Posted: Feb 18, 2013

I'm an MME and have always had it drilled into my head never to use kilos for kilograms as it can be the short form of many different types of measurements.  I see ASR constantly typing kilos now and nearly all the MEs I QA leave it as kilos.  Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but was taught (and reprimanded by QA) that it should be kg.

I have so many questions like that - me

Like is "satting" okay? I change to saturating. I also change kilos to kg. Don't know what is happening here. I am getting so fed up, I am tempted to leave it at kilos. I'm old fashioned too and I guess that part of me just can't stand to see "kilos."

Sad MT.

I change it to kg - I also change liters to L

I suppose I am wasting my time and lowering my line count by doing this, but right is right.

Use Ctrl + F - type in kilos to kg

...then Replace All. That's what I do. You can do a replace for each one separately in that feature, but since you're reading/editing the whole thing anyway, you'll find any glitches if that happens.

for - me

that depends on the circumstance for that one. Liters is not the same as kilo. Kilo is an abbreviation, liter is not. I don't like when I see L in there when it is a sentence like, "gave a liter (L) of normal saline." I think "gave a L of normal saline looks stupid. On the account I have, kilo would be left, as they do not expand any abbreviations.

Im to the point - sm

if it is even close to right and ASR makes it that way (Im taling abbreviations and the such not important things) I leave it..If they want it fixed, it CAN be programmed to be right, and specific for each account, but they are too darned lazy...
I noticed that when I put in an ASR "fix it" - sm

that they want you to provide what job number, what account, etc. on there.. So we are doing their jobs for them and then they never change it anyway, so I stopped and made shortcuts to fix the problems that keep happening..but if they are going to print out q. 4 hours instead of q.4 h. then Im leaving it
Right. They can program it to put kg instead of - kilos and same goes for

a lot of the other ones. It seems to me they have programmed it to put L instead of liters when obviously liters is dictated so why cant they program the rest.
Because they think it's correct - They have no clue

There are dozens of things that are programmed to be changed incorrectly by ASR. The reason is that they have a bunch of programmers fixing the errors who know nothing about being an MT or what is correct.

I always change kilo - prefix

[ In Reply To ..]
shortening kilogram to kilo is using a prefix and not the proper abbreviation. Kilo can also be used for kilometer and kilowatt, etc. and, although in most cases it's obvious what it means, has the potential to be misread. As for liter, that is obvious not to leave as L unless it follows a number as it is against both the transcription guidelines they sent out and against the BOS2 and just plain improper grammar. ASR before MModal was able to distinguish and do it correctly, but this new ASR is even more stupid.
to MAKE change - sm

the company has to suffer a little..let them fix the noncritical BS errors..as long as we do, it will NEVER get better..
