Got letter saying "not making line count" - BH

I just got an e-mail from my supervisor saying this today. I have been having a hard time making 192 lines per hour on SR reports. That is way over what I was hired to do at 127.5 lines per hour. Now they say SR reports are counted as 2/3 of a line, so we should really be doing 192 lines per hour if they are SR reports.

In addition, one patient had the wrong birthdate on the patient panel.

Next report, the patient's name, SS, & DOB missing. I had to search through lookup.

Yesterday, a dictation with unknown doctor.

My question is can you get unemployment if you are fired for not making this line count?

I think as long as it is not for stealing and/or insubordination you can collect. It happened to me and I collected. Check with your state to make sure. I am in Minnesota. I think they wanted to get rid of me for other reasons and too long a story to get in to. I had been with them for 18 monhts.

What is your expectation for a line count; is it 192, that is a strange number. I do VR and it is 250 lph and it really is not difficult to achieve that at all. Many times I have to do searches for doctors, patients, cc and the like. I have gotten pretty fast at searching. Talk to them if you really want this job and if you are not too far off, I think they would be willing to work with you to achieve that line count. Maybe you could ask to tips in that regard. The Spheris SR platform is so horrible, 192 lph is very, very difficult to achieve on a regular basis. I had been on my account for years before it switched to SR, knew almost every doctor, etc., and still could not do it.

my old CCM rode me constantly and even had me written up that I had not done the 2000 lines a week. Well she is gone and I am in that position now again and have been and I just got an email saying I had not been doing 2000 lines a week but nothing else. No threats no nothing. So am wondering why they have not fired me yet! Anyone?

minimum, and I haven't heard word one about it. Of course, they're still picking apart every stray comma, or lack thereof, but not questioning why my line count is so dismal.

It is a Spheris account. It is Scott and White in Texas.

Also you can't use macros very well with SR, unless you make short ones yourself. The words are already on the screen. You have to correct or replace them.

They may get you quicker on the demo mistakes. They are - serious HIPAA issues. nm

minimum I thought was required. There is no way to do 200 lph (at least on my accounts).

MQ line count is 150.. the 192 must be for Spheris employees - Unless they changed policy with no notice

It is 192 for SR reports, and still 127.5 for TR, although they may have raised this. We had a meeting on the phone, and it is 192 for SR. They way you determine that is take your line count at end of day and subtract transcription reports. The SR reports are considered 0.667 of 1 line.

Sick of hearing about HIPAA - Old part-timer

I feel for you with your line count dilemma, but I'm really sick of hearing about this HIPAA crap. MQ does not pay me to go back and look up correct SS numbers or birthdates. I occasionally get a report with one person's name and another person's record number. How the H am I supposed to know which is correct? I won't even hazard a guess. At that point, I send it through with only the name as dictated and the record number as dictated. I'm not omnipotent and I will not guess on that stuff. At that point, I let the hospital personnel figure it out so it's not on my head.

I have never had to take the time to find SS# or birthdates. It automatically comes up already filled out, or I only have to do a very basic search with the info provided by the MD. Have you always had to do this with all accounts or just the BOB you are in now? I have had the same accounts for a long time, so I am not in the loop, but the other accounts I have worked on required just a basic search. Do you have to go back into DQM and find an old report or what? No wonder you cannot reach your line count. I have always been told to search by what the MD enters if the demo screen comes up with only the account or MR #, and let the hospital figure it out. They have people on their end whose job that is. If patient panel has wrong information and we know about it (i.e., the doctor states it is wrong), then we make a note at the top of the report about that and place it on hold. We do not change the demographic info. I had to e-mail support about that last night. It did take me time, but now I know. Incidentally, I am on the Cornerstone platform.

Im starting to think HIPAA is as much of a crock as - all other aspects of MT are. (sm)

If HIPAA is so "stringent" about accuracy, confidentiality, etc., then why does it allow ANY offshoring, at all?

Not only unemployment, but you should be able to - win a lawsuit against them, as well.

I am thinking that there are a lot of things going on in this company that are not even legal. I wish someone from the employment offices around the United States would get involved and do some digging into this company. I can't believe that with the amount of experience we are required to have, the schooling we are required to have, and the knowledge we are required to have, and not only that but the perfection we are required to acheive that we get paid such CRAP. I have been looking elsewhere for about a month now and I will not stop until I find a company that is going to respect me and my talents. Anyone know of a GOOD company. I started with Medquist, left them and went to Total EMed who was then changed to Spheris, and now I am back with Medquist. They REALLY REALLY SUCK. I would not recommend this company to anyone. They just put the Spheris MTs on the Medquist pay platform and now I am making less AGAIN. My checks are half of what they were when I started with them 8 years ago. I just can't believe it. Does anyone think they are doing this purposely to get rid of people??

Keep looking on Mtjobs.com and you will find something....I found a great match w/the company that I am with. I can actually speak to my manager during her shift...they communicate abt the changes in the industry and treat us like human beings...a smaller company of course. I don't feel like a "Hebrew Slave" anymore.

I do have some benefits with the VR job, but not good enough to even take them on right now. After 3 months I will start accruing PTO up to 12 days a year. Is it worth it? I was thinking having benefits would be really nice for once in the last 16 years, but now I am thinking it may not be worth the struggle to make a living on VR. They said the platform for transcription is chartnet or chartscript? What do you all think? ...

I was just hired on with a company to do strictly VR. I am only going to be working part time so about 4 hours a day. I am wondering from those who do VR what kind of line production should I shoot for in 4 hours of work? What is the normal VR line count for part time? I have read that most who are working full time or 8 hours a day are doing more than 1,000, even 2,000 a day. The company I will be working for wants a minimum of 10,000 lines in a payperiod which the lady said even with part time ...

Is this correct? I type 70,000 characters a day. I am paid by the 65 character line so I would divide 70,000 by 65 to get 1076, then multiple that by pay per line, say $.10 and get $107. If this is not correct then what is the formula? And what is the average number of lines per day? Thanks so much for the info. ...

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what is the easiest way to not count template lines when trying to invoice? I get a line count through Word, but I hear that Word counts blank spaces as well. I have been doing about half and half, VR and straight transcription for the past three months - is anybody making any money doing this? My line rate, of course, is half of my regular transcription rate (like that is fair, right?). I have been working for this company for about 18 month and so far so good. It was even bought out by a bigger company and everything stayed the same with no problems. They don't bother me, I do my work and everything is fine. I have been told that I need to increase my LPH. So last night I kept track of the lines of each document done by using MS Word. But later when I compared it to Nuance's line tracker (ichart) it only listed half the lines that MS Word listed. How can this be? I realized that Word my count blank lines, but how can there possibly be that much difference? So far, I have calculated the "count score" on Fluency at the new rate of 0.08/.048 vs per report rate. I 'lost' on average $165-175 per pay period over the past 3 months by the line count. My report rates are currently 1.20/.072. Anyone else? Please share. Also, the 'count score' is our line count, right?? ...
