How much of Medquist's work is offshored? - In looking at one large university account, s/m
Posted: Oct 06, 2011The list is 9 pages long and almost all of the work is offshored.
I believe the goal was 80%, but I would bet that will soon - change to 100%

If they are sending most work overseas, then why do they need any US MTs unless it is for accounts that do not want to offshore?
MMEs - last MT standing
[ In Reply To ..]
There are some accounts that will not offshore (but eventually MQ will force or dump those accounts), and there are also difficult work that their babies cannot handle. I also believe that the MMEs will be the last MTs standing because they will fix the junk and it will be their skeleton crew. Exactly what CBAY did before the MQ buyout.

Hello, I'm from the "Occupy Wallstreet Movement" -- I've seen several emails about this industry so several of us are looking into this and were looking at this board, and this industry is sure interesting...similar to the IT industry and general customer service industry these days. What shocked me is the fact that our private health information is being sent outside of this country!!
I mean, seriously, when I entered my SS # at the doctor's office, I had no idea that info may be going outside of the USA. No wonder identify theft is an issue -- this SHOULD be a huge concern and it explains a lot as far as why this is happening! When I researched a little more, I see that there have been breaches of this so called "HIPAA" information that can break us big time. This is very interesting. I will communicate this information to our OWS team. I also see from looking at the forum what the "MTs" have had to endure through this mess too. This is really a reflection of the sole basis of this movement, the greediness of the government and corporate America. It definitely helps explain it all. Please feel free to post your comments on the situation as we will be watching. Thanks!
I just hope that you all - see message

Keep fighting the fight. This is crazy what our country has become! There is no America anymore, and to believe our own government supports giving away all of our work and our personal information. This is just beyond what I can wrap my head around anymore.

Years ago (look it up) there was an offshore MT not being paid and she threatened to release all the medical records she had (which were extensive) onto the internet for ALL to see. I believe she got pain; however, this is exactly what no one has thought about! Our HIPPA laws are onlu enforceable here. You can't make another country obey our laws....Crossed anyone's mind yet???

This was an MD in India who was doing MT. Some company in Fla that picked up overflow from another company - had not paid her and she did post it - think it was from Stanford - I remember that!!

but I think it was around 2005 or so when there was an incident where a group of Indian MTs tried blackmailing their company (Heartland) and threatened to release private patient info/medical records via the internet (and if I remember correctly, it was a lot of patient records) if they weren't paid a certain amount of money. And we all know what happened to Heartland, right? It went 100% to India (I was one of their American employees). IDK if this stunt happened before or after they did away with their American workers, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if it happened before.
I'll try to find an article about it later and post it.

I was off by the year (2003/2004) and from what I found really quickly, it didn't specify that it was a lot of records. But I was right that it was before they went 100% offshore.

I know someone who worked for and was friends with the MTSO who had this account, it made the newspapers and it was San Francisco General. It was public knowledge, so I don't think I am breaking rules here, you could look up old SF Chronicle newspaper for the story. The MTSO was smaller, very nice, and paid extremely well. She only hired and used American MTs. She contracted some overflow to another local MTSO, who in turn sent some she couldn't handle to the Florida MTSO, who in turn sent it to India, and then did not pay! The main MTSO got fired and she had in her contracts with people to ONLY use Americans, she got caught by the Florida MTSO's greed. Sad that the few good MTSOs have been pushed out of business.

Here is another example of our medical records being released. It happened in the U.K. in 2009. Our private information at risk is not just limited to medical records, it includes banks, airline reservations, technical help lines, credit card companies, they all offshore.

through this post if you or others need any further information on this industry, what it is, and what has happened to it. It is another classic story of corporate greed destroying a profession. I could write a book about it.
Also, another important aspect to consider is that the remote (at-home) medical transcriptionist is a planet-friendly job! When I work, I use enough energy to power a computer and a light bulb... that's it! (Oh... and a fan in the summer. What can I say... I'm high maintenance). I live in NY, and I spent less than $50 or so this summer on gas. The reward for our efforts at being nice to the planet is to either lose our jobs completely to offshoring or take drastic pay cuts with the threat of offshoring held over us... all so a few people can rake in more money.
Please let me know if you need any information at all. I would be more than glad to help. It would actually make me feel good to get involved.
Interesting - Check it out - PI

Seen this on ADHI lounge as a post today (From the grammar alone you can tell where this came from): sloppy transcriptions..well if that was the case we wouldn't have survived doing what we believe we are doing better than the Americans (or anyone for that matter) and here for the record i don't think its a one way street..well u see the US will benefit more if it stays close to India...be it politically..economically...or in any other way..cos in the future it will be WE THE INDIANS who will be starting to Outsource our jobs to your shores, and if i am not mistaken it has already started (in a small way thought), and so plz update yourself and stop whining cos either way you people are benefiting whether you outsource (help you cut costs) or whether we (new, young, and a strong market, which is better than an ailing Western Front) outsource or open our business front for you...So, welcome to the New World Order.

New To Medquist Jan 10, 2011Hi. I am new to MedQuist. Can people out there who do not hate the company please tell me if they have had a good experience or not? So far, I am worried that I will not be able to make decent money, but I am hoping that when my speed improves, that will not be the case. I have many, many years of experience, so that is not the issue. Sound quality seems to be a problem, and I am finding that editing takes an inordinate amount of time. I am a fast typist, so I ...
Job Op With Medquist Feb 13, 2011I currently work for a company that pays pretty much the same as Medquist. I hardly have to deal with ESL docs and if I work my butt off I can make some decent money. I'm very reluctant to quit my current job and work for Medquist after reading some of these posts. I have no idea what kind of account Medquist is going to assign me to which has me nervous. Also I'm about to be a single mom and I'm very worried about making the wrong decision. ...

My Former Job At Medquist Mar 30, 2011Good afternoon all. What Medquist Is Doing To Us Jul 12, 2011I want everyone to think about what Medquist is doing. It does not matter what your job is for this company, they are systematically getting rid of the US employees because it comes down to the almighty dollar for this company. It is not a US based company, the upper echelon is India. This company sold out to its US workers long ago. Shame on Medquist, but that is what they did. It will not matter if we stay or go, they will be fine. What each of us has ...

Thank You Medquist Aug 12, 2011For once again proving to me how idiotic your polices and practices are. Heads up to all those who recently left the Q employment. Be wary of your exit interview.
