Ex-MModal - bye-bye birdie

Left MModal 18 mos. ago and have been on here encouraging everybody that there is life after MQ/MM. This week my wonderful clinic goes live with EMR. The trainer won't even recognize transcription. He is just adamant that the docs will enter everything themselves and when they don't, he is pushing Dragon Medical.

So I guess I was wrong. I really thought I found a way out, but apparently not. It was a great year and a half though.

This birdie is trying to find a way out of this mess, but it's really tough! I'm too old to be racking up a bunch of student loan debt but too young to retire. I've cried numerous times lately and been unable to eat or sleep. I'm upset about losing my career and even my lifestyle, but I'm also upset because despite sending out many, many resumes and cover letters, all carefully prepared, I've barely had a response. Maybe I'll end up living in my car!

applied for UE? TAA (assuming you are with MM)? I'm not sure of your situation but there is no need to have student loans or live in your car. There is help.

I know you CAN go back to college at nearly 60 years old, but it seems pointless, even though Social Security wants you to keep working until you are 70. The sad thing is the doctors love me and compliment my work and gave me a really decent raise just last week. They thought they would be able to keep dictating, but I just don't see it. There isn't even really a place to put dictation --- just little "note" boxes under the drop down menus for CC, HPI, ROS, PE, etc.

I work for an 8-physician specialty clinic. Sometime before I got my job, they transitioned to EHR. Prior to that, they did dictation....had several in-house MTs at one time, and then outsourced their work to a small MTSO. However, they still kept one MT (who is now me) to create letters that go out to the referring physicians. I'm not quite sure how it works, but the EHR chart note can "magically" populate the template for the letters. Because the docs do much of their own inputting on the EHR, they're in a rush, and there are still many mistakes....lots of typos, misspellings, etc.

So, I guess my point is that even when your doctors go live on the EHR and are "doing their own" reports, if they send out letters, there might still be a need for an MT (or two or three or ____??) to do some editing. If you're working at a primary care clinic, maybe not so much; but a specialty clinic will usually send letters to the patient's PCP.

Yes, this is still editing, which most of us MTs really disliked as compared to actually typing the reports; but if you're paid a decent hourly salary, as I am, it's still a lot better than nothing!

MModal asks for your SS# on the application process of applying for jobs there!!! Thanks to some of you, I ran ran ran from this place. Why is MModal posting job openings, when so many of use are running out of work or worse falling into the pool--what with the pay cuts, VR being paid half even though it takes nearly as long to edit most reports, and the fact that I only get my "primary" accounts about 30% of the time and the rest of the time I am typing from the pool so that nearly every report that comes up is a new facility or dictator, I have gone from making $16 an hour to minimum wage. I see so many complaints about MModal. Does anyone actually like them? I'm in the hiring process and they are calling with an offer. I would like to try it out. I work in-house now, but eventually my position will be eliminated due to VR. I do not make that great of pay, and have lots of down time, but still have to sit in the office all day. I am so sick of Mmodal. I resigned recently and I keep getting letters to return things that I have never ever owned or received or stuff that I had sent back to them years ago. The DEPOT apparently is as ignorant as the rest of them. SO glad I found real job that pays, respects and appreciates their employees. can you specify exactly what laws they have broken? Yes, we are all unhappy here, but I cannot see that they have done anything they cannot do legally. The last judgment against them was for witholding pay. I think they are too smart to break laws again. What do you expect to gain anyway by suing a company that has filed bankruptcy, which is always a very smart business move to make if you can get away with it. ...

It took a stupid pill. It skips at least a fourth of the words, uses commas and back slashes like most people use salt and pepper of course skipping the words where it puts the commas in, puts in stuff that is not even close to what is dictated. These companies pay for their stuff to be run through this ridiculous program. Why are the bosses allowing this low quality to come through unless they own part of mmodal. Does not make sense. ...
