Double click does 2 different functions at once! - dnr

Posted: Nov 30, 2012

In ASR, it will highlight the word you double click and also it will put the audio back to that point. In straight transcription, it will highlight the word and take the audio all the way back to the beginning. And they won't fix it! - because I am never to take my hands off the keyboard???!! I find mousing quicker to follow ASR. I've tried cursor tracking, but it rarely ends up exactly where I want and I either end up having to use the keyboard or mouse (depending upon how much pain I am from their kooky finger combination for the short cut - at least for me). I use the mouse in straight transcription occasionally to go back to a previous point in the document to change or add text. I really need to be able to do what is quickest and to avoid overuse injury. They have no idea what it is like to edit and/or transcribe all day.

Here's What I do - for ASR edits

I just rest my left hand to the left of the keyboard and use my thumb for ctrl and my index finger for shift. My other hand is for the arrow keys. It's actually very comfortable. I find ASR a lot easier on my hands, but my brain is more fried at the end of a day. Actually, after the first report, if the truth be known.

I do that at times. But your hands still aren't on the keyboard in typing position ;) LOL like - dnr

Double click is so ingrained for highlighting works from all my years of personal and professional word processing.

I switch back and forth between mouse and keyboard shortcuts to mix things up physically and mentally.

Although, I have found that using the Ctl Shift + arrows all day really degrades my typing speed over time (days and weeks).

I use a finger laid flat on the Ctl Shift keys rather than 2 fingers.

Big error on the programmers' part. When we double click to - sm

highlight a word, common sense should tell them of course we don't want the audio back at the beginning!! Duh.

Mouse Or Keyboard Functions

On Enterprise Voice Recognition, are you a "mouser" or keyboarder?  I have tried and tried to use the keyboard, but just can't get it down.  I have been using a mouse so long, it is a hard habit to break. Anyone have any ideas?  Need to bring my speed up on Voice. ...

Kaspersky - Problem With Keyboard Functions And Audio Being Slow And Stuttering
Jan 23, 2010

I would still like to hear from anyone having a problem with keyboard functions and audio being slow and stuttering.  I have spent a great deal of time with support in the last couple of weeks and each person I speak to has a different suggestion.  A few weeks ago they installed Kaspersky because that is all that is available to us now and for the first few days, things were okay, now slow and stuttering again.  Now they are telling me my ISP service is too slow even though it is now several ...

Looking For One Of Those Clickety-click Keyboards (sm)
Jun 09, 2010

I really like the old style keyboards with the metal contacts and springs, rather than the soft touch keyboards with silicon contacts and rubber (but with a USB plug). I've looked at Office Depot, Staples and Best Buy - no one has them.  Anybody else like those? and do you have any suggestions on where they can be found?   ...

Right-click On Red Underlined Word
Sep 12, 2010

Why is our new dictationary so useless?  It shows us a mis-spelled word, so I went ahead and right-clicked on it, and it gave me no options.  I mis-spelled finesteride and the correct spelling should have been finasteride.  One letter difference and our brilliant Qictionary can't find the correct option???  Had to go to Google to find it, but means extra keystrokes.  Why bother to highlight a mis-spelled word? ...

Saw My First Point-and-click EMR Finished Product.
Jan 06, 2013

I had to request a medical report for myself and oh dear lord what a mess that point-and-click stuff is. They check all items in a ROS and the thing throws it all together in giant run-on sentences, separating everything by a comma, and leaving weird spaces everywhere. There's no consistency anywhere in how it makes things look, i.e. in a numbered list that has 1., 2., etc., putting one space after the period after the number and the next one putting 2 spaces, then back to 1 space, then may ...

Oranges And Apples --- EHR And Point-n-click And Scribes
Nov 10, 2011

I think these ideas are getting used interchangeably when they are very different applications.  EHR is still transcribed documents, just not paper charts.  Facilities have already been on this for a good while now and the transcriptionist will basically see no difference as we don't usually handle a chart anyways in-house or virtually.  However, it is the point-n-click programs that are phasing out the transcribed document.  ...

Double Pay Cut
May 31, 2010

It seems to me that when you pay "weighted lines" which equal about two thirds of lines actually produced, and then pay less for those weighted lines, it is a double cut in pay. They would already be paying less because of the "weighted lines", and then to pay less per line seems criminal.  Twice as productive should equate to twice as much pay.....I'm about to go under..... ...

Double Standard
Mar 29, 2011

Time and time again it is reiterated the importance for us to remain professional, as we are a reflection of MQ.  For example, never say "poor dictator" because this may be insulting to the holy than thou doctor, PA or RN.  What about the annoying PA that constantly insults me by saying in middle of her dictation, "note to my typist."  And this is not insulting?  All the training, years of experience and BS I have to put up with to be called a "typist" repeatedly.  ...

Double Words And Other Things
Apr 13, 2011

Thanks to all who replied.  I wonder if my spellcheck is even turned on because the double words are not being caught.  I have even wondered if the software is putting words in.  I've been transcribing for many years but only started SR.  I'm also worry that my brain is getting too old to spot discrepancies, yet in other areas of my life, errors jump out at me to the point of being almost an obsession.  Otherwise, being with MQ has been fine.   T ...
