Doing the happy dance!! - Line count 2442
Posted: Jul 15, 2011I worked my butt off...and it's so worth it!
Happy for you. You must have been one of the - Kiki

MTs who made under 8 cents a line to begin with and didn't get a pay cut. I can usually do about that many lines per day. However, with the new pay cut coming up, for that same amount of lines it will be about $25 dollars less. Now, if you add that up for the entire PP, it's $250 per PP or $500 LESS PER MONTH. I for one am NOT doing the happy dance.
Nope. I got a - pay cut
[ In Reply To ..]
I think the pay cut inspired me to work harder and stay off this site and others during work hours. I'm still making less per line, but I'll be bringing home more than I would have if I only did the required 1200 lines! Now I need to do that every day!
Go work your fingers to the bone - old and burned out

Congratulations - you are doing exactly what MQ hoped you would do, i.e, work longer and harder to make up the difference after they cut your pay. I appreciate the fact that most MTs need the money but will you keep doing it when they lower your pay again? When you get carpal tunnel or some other chronic ailment they will tell you to go jump in the lake.
That was an unnecessary - attack

I'm more concerned with putting food in my kids' tummies. I don't see how me filing for bankruptcy will have any effect on MedQuist.
I'm sorry you can't be happy for me that I blew my goal right out of the water. I guess this web site is just for people who want to grumble and groan. You probably would have been thrilled if I told you I quit my job and my utilities would be turned off in a week.
Not trying to attack you - old and burned out
[ In Reply To ..]
Honestly, I am not trying to attack you. I said I understand MTs needing the money. I am just trying to make you aware of how this company operates. If they hired a responsible, competent person during the time I worked in the office they did not reward them but kept piling on more and more work until they were forced to quit. That is what they are doing with us, paying us less and less, hoping we will work more and more. The alternative would be to try to work part-time for another company. I do wish you luck, hope your bills get paid and that you do not end up with some chronic ailment because no one in this company cares.
to: old an burned out - roller coaster
[ In Reply To ..]
You are so right about that and I could tell from your comment that you did not intend to be attacking OP. Being a fellow MT, I certainly hope if anyone can make the money I'm very happy for them, but with MQ there is always an underlying agenda that slways IS NOT in the MT's best interest. Did ya notice in the new guy's introduction email how the importance of the client was emphasized and no mention of MTs? Everyone get ready as it seems we're in for more of a rocky ride and I think we're the ones who are going to be falling off the cliff!! JMO.
Working longer and harder - old and burned out
[ In Reply To ..]
Not to belabor the point but rather than a roller coaster, it is a continuous downward spiral. The short-term benefit is going to hurt MTs in the long run. Companies make the most profit by getting as much as they can out of each employee because regardless of how much you produce, they still have to pay unemployment insurance, Workmen's Comp, SS, etc. If they see that we work harder after they reduce our rates then there is just that much more incentive for them to reduce rates again (which unfortunately I think they will do anyway). Most MTSOs are paying 8 cents for transcription and 4 cents for ASR. I admit that I don't know if they ever give raises or not. They all seem to think you can make more by working more but the technology is just not as good as they claim and editing the ASR is taking us almost as long as the transcription. Also, as I mentioned, if you keeping banging the keyboard as hard as you can without taking breaks, you risk both your physical and mental health.
U R right! "Use MTs up, wear them out, then - THROW THEM AWAY."

I agree - it was unnecessary and unkind - Old Pro

I am happy for you and proud of you, too. I don't work for MQ, but I know what your accomplishment means and my hat is off to you! Go and do something nice for yourself!
It wasn't unkind, it was simply the truth. The "high - producer" just doesnt know shes being scr=wed. nm

I just need a better account apparently. I would - literally just have to not
[ In Reply To ..]
listen to the report (and sometimes have to re-listen to a lot of them just to make sure and stay 99%) and glance over it and ship to run over 2000 lines now. I used to type 2000 sometimes, but my ASR is so awful (Plus all the info I have to enter that I don't get paid for) that I am one of those "underachievers" now who usually only gets my piddly 1200 minimum and am relieved to get that. I am not unhappy for you, but apparently I type apples and you type oranges.
higher line counts are possible - North MTr

I know, I complained too with the upcoming pay cuts and called my CCM. She gave me the usual suggestions- change some hours to take advantage of the shift differential, look at tiering up/moving to MME, time management, improve my glossary, etc. My CCM also told me to start punching out for bathroom breaks, taking the dogs out and basically every time I got up from the computer so only the time on the time clock is actual work time. The first day I did that my line count doubled. Then I started noticing the time I spent answering the phone and checking this site and news sites and tried to limit this stuff too while I was on the clock. Phenomenal increase in lines. Maybe you are better at time management than me, I know I thought I was doing well, but until I started punching out I didn't realize how much time I was not working.
Don't think that I am not looking because I am and actually have an interview next week because I cannot keep up this working in a sweat shop forever, but until I find something else I plan on working this new system to my advantage.
I used to clock out for that stuff too, but then - dnr
[ In Reply To ..]
MQ decided that was next on their list to attack, and I got a warning for my total DQS time being greater than my total clocked time. Mind you, that is what I had been instructed I could do when I first started working here a couple of years ago. Guess they were afraid they would be paying incentive if everyone did that which is a mute point now since they took that away.
I hear ya - North MTr
[ In Reply To ..]
Guess it depends on your CCM and how picky they are and how anal they are at looking at those DQS reports. But seriously for me for I am talking about maybe 15-20 minutes during an 8 hour shift, just enough to let me stretch and get a drink of water or whatever a couple of times. I think there is a percentage of time you are allowed (10% variance sticks in my mind) of DQS time greater than total clocked time. So in an 8 hour stretch which is 640 minutes you are allowed something like 64 minutes variance- enough to punch out a few times and use the facilities and take the dogs out.
The reason there was a crack down a few years ago was because some people were abusing the system and working off the clock trying to boost line counts and PTO rates. I knew a person who had a 50% variance. She never worked her shift and logged on and worked whenever the mood would strike. The other CCMs would look the other way, but then we got one who was by the book and she got fired. I think MQ has cracked down on most of those abusers.
Honestly though, we are not robots and are not meant to work an 8-hour shift straight through with no breaks and I bet if one of us called the Labor Board and complained they would say the same thing. It only helps you and your line counts to punch out.
Catch 22 -- - no name
[ In Reply To ..]
If everybody starts logging out 10 times a day for bathroom and snack and phone breaks, then we all start getting hateful E-mails that we are not working our "schedules." I don't think there is a good answer.

Happy Transcriptions Is Still Happy Aug 19, 2013Who in their right mind names a company "Happy Transcriptions?" In this day and age, all I see is "sad" MTs and, in my opinion, if "Happy Transcriptions" is still happy, they can only be messing even more with us poor "sad" MTs. Happy At TTS May 03, 2010I've been at TTS for almost 3 years and I have nothing but positive things to say about TTS. I never have to guess what TTS expects from me, and I do my best to deliver that on a consistent basis. Communication flows freely and efficiently. My team leader and 2 shift leads are EXCELLENT managers in my opinion. Everything I invest in my job comes back to me and then some. I can recommend TTS to anybody unapologetically. ...

Is Anyone Happy Being An MT Oct 30, 2010I am surprised at just how many or your are miserable with what you do. I am a new MT ans I am also having trouble finding work. It's not easy. I can see that having editing to fall back on would be good. I have read the posts about don't do this just to work from home. I have small children and my only choice would be daycare if I went to work somewhere, which would eat up half my pay check. Sometimes it's not just money, sometimes it's fo ...
Is Anyone Actually Happy With VR? Jul 08, 2011I've read tons and tons of negative complaints about VR, but are there people out there who actually like it? Any Happy MTs Out There??? Nov 28, 2011Hi, everyone. I was just wondering if there are any MTs out there that are happy with their jobs and are able to make some good money in this profession. I have read lots and lots of posts, and it seems like a huge percentage of the posts are about how bad people's jobs are and how little money they are making. I understand people need to vent, but there have to be some MTs that are happy and making money. I recently graduated from one of the top MT schools and ...

Happy With Job Nov 06, 2012I understand how frustrated many people are with the way things are going with MT jobs. I am not posting this to make anyone feel worse, but to let people know that there are some good jobs in MT. I work for a private local medical office. I had been worried, too, as our office offered voice recognition to docs and some use it. A lot got frustrated, mostly the ones who want their notes to be correct, and went back to using our services. I had even been looking at online M ...

Anybody Happy? Oct 20, 2013I am wondering if there is a single person on this forum who is an MT who is happy with their job (including the miniscule pay that would be appropriate compensation if it were around 1975 rather than 2013 or lived in another country in which one can buy a lot more with 50 cents). I think the job in terms of its duties is fine. It's just the pay that I begrudge. You can "earn" just as much being on disability SSI, which I was on before getting in this. But I'd still rather be finan ...
Looking For Happy MTs! Nov 17, 2013Some of these forums are filled with folks who are frighteningly unfulfilled. I realize that human nature, being what it is, will complain if given half a chance. Still Happy... Dec 06, 2013Sunday it will be 2 months I have been at my new position since leaving MM. I no longer need to take Prilosec daily and my dr. has decreased my BP med. Happy MTs? Jan 07, 2014I see a lot of MTs on this board who are not very happy about their current situation/job. Are there any MTs that are happy with their job?
