I'm getting so tired of having a report or two, then NJA, then while waiting another report comes, then NJA, etc., etc., early in my shift. Sure, we have been encouraged to just check back later on and work then. I really don't know why they suggest or even allow this to happen. When you log on during another shift, all you're doing is taking work from those folks who normall work then. They in turn are then told to work later too and this cycle of NJA just goes on and on. I really wonder if the CCMs or others realize they are not helping by doing this.
While I hate getting NJA, I have to wonder if it's occuring so frequently simply because of the hop around others are doing to trying to get their lines in. I am well aware that work gets outsourced. However, my primary and secondary accounts don't do it and only my third/fourth accounts outsource. I rarely ever get the later two accounts, so I don't see that as the reason for my NJA.
Before anybody chews my head off for this, I do understand most folks are only complying with CCMs requests to pop back on later and work to get in their lines. I don't think very many people are eager to work outside their shift on a regular basis. NJA really messes things up and there has to be a solution that doesn't involve creating NJA or low work conditions for others working later during the day.
A lot of good all this account optimization and gap analysis did. I think it was just a total waste of time as it obviuosly isn't working. CCM always brings up that the sporadic work is just the nature of this job. While I do know that's the case to some extent depending on what type of facility you're doing, I also know most facilities have a very steady flow of patients/work or they wouldn't stay in business.
Somebody here at MQ needs to figure out a real solution for the NJA that doesn't involve taking away work from others or ourselves.
