J&M Transcription - HulaGirl

Posted: Oct 23, 2010

Wow, did anybody read their ad?  It is so full of DO NOT requests--do not call me, do not say you will do the work and then not do it, do not do this, do not do that, etc.  I wonder if someone applying for the job included an equal number of DO NOTS for the MTSO if he or she would respond?  I am thankful that I already have a good job.  I would not want to work for anyone who is so negative in an ad.  If it is this bad in an ad, how is s/he in person?  She fails to realize that some of us are professionals who deliver work correctly done every time and on time.  I guess that just as there are MTs who are less than professional, some MTSOs do not make the cut, either.   Good luck to the person who gets the job.  It sounds like this MTSO has been burned, but, IMHO, s/he is making a huge mistake by generalizing like this.  (BTW, I am a long-time MT who does 350 lph at over 99% accuracy and has high ESL experience.  No, I am not looking for work--thank heavens for that if this is the kind of stuff we have to put up with in ads.)

I thought this ad was dead-on - sm - Jill

[ In Reply To ..]
Obviously they WERE burned but good for them for stating it just like it is. Rather have that than the ones who promise you the world and don't come through. There are many flaky MTs out there, believe me, who let everything come in front of their commitment to the job. These MTSOs count on us and unfortunately, the flaky ones come up with all the excuses, just like this person stated. I thought it was spot on. And no, I am not and never have been an MTSO.

Jill - HulaGirl

I agree with what you say but that is only half the story. How about MTSOs who do not keep their word to MTs? (MQ, are you listening? MDI, are you listening?) I have been an MT for three decades, have never ONCE missed work or been late with a deadline or had a score under 98.5%--and on some very tough ESL accounts. Would I ever work for this lady? NO CHANCE.

So what? She's supposed to suffer for the sins of - other MTSOs? Not entitled to require quality? NM

x
I don't think the issue is whether or not she requires quality. sm - I worked there too
[ In Reply To ..]
It is her tone. She is cool and aloof, doesn't mind asking you to do extra at the last minute but won't bother thanking you for the extra effort. And don't count ever hearing "nice job," but do count on being blasted if any mistake is found, even if it ends up it wasn't your mistake. For 7 cpl, it certainly is not worth it.

Jill? J!! and M Transcription? - Just sayin......

.

She indeed is a very negative person and very cold. sm - Never again

[ In Reply To ..]
I worked for her briefly on a part-time basis. We never talked or exchanged any kind of personal information. She made it clear that she did not want this company. Her partner backed out on her or something and she felt obligated to the clients, but she works another job. The pay is low, but she does pay on time. The work for the endocrinology doc pays 8 cpl, but he is an ESL and you earn it.

Although this business was somewhat dumped in my lap, rather than give it up, I decided to make it work. It took me a while to figure everything out and through that process, I am quite certain that I have a few people who donĂ¢€™t like me but I also have girls who have been with me since day one. I am not getting into a debate on MT Stars about whether I am nice or not as I am quite certain there are two sides to every story. I only ask that people figure things out for themselves.

The question isn't whether we are happy. The question is whether MTSOs (including you) and MTs can work together in a mutually profitable way so that are parties are satisfied. I detected a definite negative vibe to your ad, which is your perfect right--if that is what you want to project. You can post your ad worded any way you want it. But, as my mama used to say long, long ago, "You can catch a lot more flies with honey than with vinegar." Just sayin. Good luck to you.

I don't see a thing wrong - SoCal MT

[ In Reply To ..]
that ad. There are way too many MTs who do not take their job seriously. This job posting is merely pointing out that they want someone who will not just apply but will actually be ready to work and will not let them down. I see nothing at all negative about that.

I agree, and I don't need a friend or babysitter for - an employer, so leaving me to it is just fine.

[ In Reply To ..]
(But Michelle, why on earth argue with the very people you're weeding out anyway? Post your ads however you want and hire those who smile at the aggravations they reveal and think, "Well, I guess she's looking for me. Wonder what her top rate is.")

Why would you want to work for anyone for 7 cpl, regardless of her personality? - Not me

[ In Reply To ..]
And I don't think her coming here and arguing on a board made her look anymore favorable, but she lost me with the 7 cpl. Pitiful.
So where are you working that pays more? (sm) - Yochana
[ In Reply To ..]
Seems to be 7 cpl is about all anyone is offering nowdays...not that I like it.
I hope you are kidding -- 7 cpl for IC work is not typical. Even the big companies sm - Not me

offering employee status with bennies pay 8/8.5 cpl. I guess it is better than nothing, but if it was me, I'd keep looking. I work for a small MTSO and she pays 9 cpl and pays weekly, so I guess I'm lucky. On top of it, she has a great personality, which seems to be an issue here (ha).

Good luck. Don't settle for less than you are worth. :-)
I meant 7 cpl as an employee. nm - Yochana

Many companies are paying more than 7 cpl - MT
[ In Reply To ..]
You'll have to do your own research to find them of course, but they are really NOT all that hard to find.

I recently changed companies and during the period of time when I was applying and sending out my resume, the lowest that I was offered was 9 cpl and the highest offer was 10.5 cpl. These were the "base rates" which did not include any of the incentives (working 3rd shift hours, weekends, etc.)

It seems that it is the smaller MTSOs and the mom and pop companies who are offering 7 and 8 cpl (and now recently, I just saw another new low with one of them offering 6 cpl). Not all of the smaller companies are offering such low rates, but it seems that many of them are.
Not me - Maria
[ In Reply To ..]
She lost me with her attitude. I am a seasoned, experienced MT who is working for 9 cpl. Even if Michelle had offered me 11 cpl, I would not have taken it. I give my all to my employer and I expect to be treated with kindness and respect. That is one of MY qualifications. I do not want/need/expect a babysitter, buddy or mentor. However, I DO expect to be treated like the professional I am, and that includes not being lumped into a generalization about MTs being nonperformers. That is not me. There is a saying in metaphysics that "like attracts like." Michelle will likely attract someone who is negative as she is. So be it.
Sorry, Maria. "Babysitter" poster here. Don't know what - you mean exactly, but you have been there. OK. NM

Did you ever consider that she may have had people who she could not count on in the past and therefore wanted to make it clear that she wanted only responsible people. This is a job listing not a listing for friendship. If you are looking for friendship then you need to check the personals instead.

I don't need a friend, but I also don't need a tightwad taskmasker. nm - pfooey to 7 cpl IC work

Since the advent of voice recognition and overseas outsourcing, transcription has ceased to be a profession.   I will NEVER -- repeat, NEVER make the money I was making as a transcriptionist at a hospital 5 years ago, before we were replaced by VR and cheap outsourcing to India.   Now all that's left are transcription companies here in the U.S. that don't want to pay much more, lie to us and tamper with our line counts.   GET OUT, GET OUT OF TRANSCRIPTION! ...

A Day Without Transcription?
May 28, 2010

It seems that everyone has negative things to say about how employers do not pay MTs what they're worth and how they offshore the easy stuff, but pile on the lousy ESL stuff on the transcriptionists in the States. Too bad there can't be a general strike of U.S. MTs - a day without transcription - just to show how we're needed. It seems to be the only thing employers would understand. Impossible, I know, but I bet employers would sit up and take notice. ...

PLEASE..do not be foolish enough to work for this company!!  They are offerring 3 cents for VR.  A seasoned MT well versed in voice recognition software, particularly Editscript, produced by eEscription out of Massachusetts, can make 500-600 lines per hour. At 3 cents a line that is slave wages. It will average you 12 cents a line on a good account.  I knew this would happen eventually.  I am making 4.5 cents on Editscript and making 28-30 an hour before my IC status. Do not ...
