I use Instant Text Pro 7 and love it. It will attach itself to any document you are using (when you open it). It is reasonably priced and easily transferred to a new computer. The tech support is great and it is virtually "trouble-free" and very easy to use. I used it at the hospital where I worked and knew it would be my "choice" when I started working from home. Hope this helps you

I second this. Instant Text has so much power. - Sunny

I think I only use about 1/10 of what it can do. It can create glossaries for you and suggests what might come next in a sentence while you are typing.

There was a link posted to download Instant Text 5 free some time ago. If you search the Tech Board, you may still be able to download it.

You can download a 30 day trial of IT Pro 7 - Morgan

I'm happy with it. I love the ability to create commands. For example if you need larger type on the screen you can program a couple of keys to change it for you rather than wasting time going through a menu for each new report. I still have a lot of commands to add as I have time. It will also calculate your % time savings. You can have many different glossaries and there is a bulletin board for tech help that is attended by a tech daily. I changed my expander from a space to a ; which has improved accuracy tremendously. I also use Auto Correct to expand abbreviations to caps, (CBC)so I can easily choose whether I want "CBC" or "complete blood count" by adding the ;. IT also has the option of running the glossary suggestions at the bottom of the page as a reminder while you are learning your short forms. This is helpful for short form that are lenthy, such as risks and benefits per doctor, i.e. SRAB for "risk & benefits by Dr. Smith". Also some expanders don't permit formatting (bold, etc) where IT does.
I've heard recommendations for Shorthand also but have not used that one.

Agree. Love IT - CB

Agree with all those points on IT (and many more I have yet to implement). I also use the ; to expand - I think that's part of what makes IT unique. So for for doctors' names, I don't have to memorize because I use the same initials for multiple doctors (i.e., Michael Smith, MD, Maryann Shaffer, MD is MSMD) and just scroll to choose.

PS - would you mind sharing your command/keystrokes for larger type? What a great idea. Thanks!

Word Expander Program Messing Up.
Feb 10, 2011

I have Sylvan Software's Shortcut program, which I have had for 4 years now.  Lately, it has been screwing up on me.  When I do something like add a letter in editing, such as an a, it will put in an expansion as if I typed a two-letter abbreviation, like ua for urinalysis, or aa for aortic aneurysm.  Also, if I add a comma, it will throw in an expansion randomly, at least it seems random. Could it be that the program is old?  Can they get old?  This is a fairly ne ...
