Why do I need a word expander program - tutu

Posted: Aug 17, 2013

Why do I need a word expander program if the company I work for uses Word 2007 and I can use autocorrect options?

You don't, silly! It is those that use platform after platform and get jerked around, thinking that you need to build a new word expander within that platform. If that ever happens to you, SH10 for Windows will convert everything you have on Word and have it available for you to use without having to reenter everything. However, your shortcut word expander for Word does not work for other Windows-based programs....you might want to consider getting SH10 if you use other programs, such as email, Facebook, etc.

Because a good word expander - Does more than autocorrect

You don't HAVE to do anything. A good word expander does more than autocorrect, though, so it's something to at least consider. In an expander you can save blocks of text with formatting, you can set up commands to do automated functions, you can have a lot more entries in general than the memory of autocorrect allows, you can have two jobs (like me) with different requirements for things like numbers and keep them separate very easily.

I am much more productive with it and more production means more money.

You can do blocks of formatted text in autocorrect, FYI. - nm.

Many of us have been explaining this for over a - decade now, often in great detail.

It's just amazing to me that people keep asking this. The power of something for free, I guess--except that it's actually an extremely costly choice.

This work requires keyboarding all day long. We are paid for our production. Using a simple little program designed to give a nice little scoot to speed, instead of a good program to eventually double production, and more, is not a sensible choice.

I would suggest you get either Shorthand or Instant Text. Instant Text takes a little longer to learn to use, but it provides ready-made dictionaries and and creates new dictionary entries based on the work you're doing so that you're ultimately up and running much faster.

A word expander will dramatically increase your income - Joe

Any word expander will enable you to substantially increase your productivity. The cost of $1-200 will be paid off by your additional income within a very short period of time. And you will then keep earning more each day.

The conventional expanders are actually souped-up versions of AutoCorrect. But two of them do much more: Instant Text and Smartype, not necessarily in that order. {:>) By way of full disclosure, Smartype is my company's product. But you should check them both out. Do a free trial before purchasing.

I only use autocorrect. Works for me. - nm

Autocorrect vs Shorthand, etc. - tutu

Was just sent a list of all the things I need to put in my word expander program per my new employer. I downloaded Shorthand for the free 30 days and I'm very happy for the advice you guys have given me. nm, I used autocorrect where I used to work, this seems to be the same, but a little easier to use and you can put a ton in it. Thanks for the advice.

Word Expander Program Messing Up.
Feb 10, 2011

I have Sylvan Software's Shortcut program, which I have had for 4 years now.  Lately, it has been screwing up on me.  When I do something like add a letter in editing, such as an a, it will put in an expansion as if I typed a two-letter abbreviation, like ua for urinalysis, or aa for aortic aneurysm.  Also, if I add a comma, it will throw in an expansion randomly, at least it seems random. Could it be that the program is old?  Can they get old?  This is a fairly ne ...
