average percent response - jobseeking

Posted: Jul 29, 2013

I have applied to 2 companies from the ads here recently. Did not hear a word from either.  Would like to know what the average rate of response other MTs have had when submitting applications and passing tests. I have lots of exp and frankly pretty surprised not to hear anything at all.

the same percentage of the 127 who viewed my post responded as the percentage of responses I received from my job applications. Birds of a feather . . .

I'd say I've heard back from about 60%, between a half to two-thirds. - sm

That would be for almost 40 companies since 2006, when I began my list of applications/tests/resume submissions.  I often try a followup "I'd like to reiterate my interest" kind of e-mail if no response in a week or so, but if they didn't respond the first time, that usually doesn't get results.

The job I have now, I actually tried applying with and contacting them twice before, the first time in 2006, and it wasn't until my recent, third attempt that I ever heard back from them. Things probably changed a lot recruitment-wise and management-wise in that time span (because I certainly had enough experience already in 2006, at about 12 years then), so it just goes to show, it could still be worth trying again.

Just 2 recent attempts isn't enough to base any real conclusions on, though I think I can safely say that MTSOs overall aren't as "respectful" of us as they used to be, so the responsiveness ratio probably is getting worse with time.  It's a heckuva of a mess that's happened to this whole profession, what's left of it.

thanks for your input - JS

I realize 2 applications does not give a reliable sample to base anything on. When I see an ad and see that 972 other MTs have looked at it, I think "what's the use of applying, my app would be buried." So I thought I would ask the question. Again, thanks for the reply.

Try Nuance/Accentus - Aaron

I find that many take weeks to contact you, but if you apply to Accentus they will call you practically the same day, as they are always, always looking for more MTs.

Can't Seem To Get A Response

I'm just curious if others are in the same boat as I am.  I have almost 10 years experience as an MT, both acute care and clinic, and I have been sending my resume to many of the job postings on this board.  I think I have received two replies out of probably 20 resumes sent.  Is this pretty much the way it is for others, or do I need to tweak my resume?  Thanks! ...
