Because earlier this morning I transcribed a job where the dictator was absolutely flipping his s**t about some of his reports not coming out exactly the way he wants them. He went on and on, in a very condescending tone, as if I were a first-grader who belonged in the "slower class."
I took the time to transcribe his rant verbatim into an e-mail which went to my supervisor, my leads, as well as the QA team, with the request that someone please look over the report to make sure I had done my part correctly, and if it still wasn't coming out the way he wanted it at his end, we needed to get the technical people involved to fix it. I also suggested (again) that the entire staff who works this account be notified that this dictator is not getting what he wants, despite the fact that he is quite clear about it.
Of course, I will not get paid for the lines I transcribed into that e-mail. But I took the time to do it anyway.
So I already endured one bout of verbal abuse by a dictator today, and I am 99 percent sure that I am not the one who has made him so annoyed.
And now that I see his name coming up in the queue again... I am going to let somebody else grab that job. Which would most likely happen in the ordinary way anyway, since I just started a fairly long job.
And someone has indeed grabbed it. It was a nice juicy long one, and he might not have even gotten verbally abusive in it. I don't know. He's not a particularly difficult dictator, and ordinarily I am perfectly happy to do his jobs... except when he starts yelling. I've taken my fair share of his abuse for today.
And thus, I avoided a job I just didn't want to do. If this is cherry picking, so be it.
