To get decent lines an hour - bony fingers

Hi, I seem to struggle with line counts (a few years into MTing). Some accounts I am fine with and some very slow. Because of the nature of the work (and working from home), I have no way to gauge if the faster accounts are just abnormally easy or the slower accounts are abnormally hard. - Do you all (who have decent line counts) feel like you are moving like a mad person or just moving along at a decent pace?
Any ideas on how to tell what my issues are or what the scoop is? I keep trying to find ways to be faster and use tons of expansions. Honestly, I feel I work way harder on the accounts I am slow with and often can't even make our minimum requiement with them. I feel so frustrated and can't seem to get any real help (or even decent input) from the company I work for.
Any thoughts/advice appreciated.

[ In Reply To ..]I generally do between 300-350 lph when I stay focused. No, not typing like a mad woman, nice, steady, move-it kinda flow. But then something pops into my head and I have to check Google and well since I'm already paused, I need to check my websites, and then I need to pee, and then I need new water. You get the gist. So I do my 1500-1800 lpd but instead of doing it in the 5-6 hours I should be, it takes me 7-8. But then I feel less stressed too!

I average less than half your lph and if I were to do that many lines I would be a visual blur.
It seems it is so hard to get any kind of handle on it because there are so many variables.
Any other thoughts - anyone?
Acute care, oncology - years of practice

I work on a Word-based program, acute care, fair share of ESL, as well as oncology. I cover about 5 different accounts depending on who needs help the most.

[ In Reply To ..]I always made much more on ops because more of the report is template-able. Consults tend to be a lot more straight typing. Since I've been on my current account, doing mostly consults, I've increased the percentage of keystrokes done by Shorthand to around 70% now, up from 50-something.
With all types of accounts it takes quite awhile to get fully up to speed, with a library of templates for all new doctors. I do have some "generic" templates & if I get a new doc doing an old procedure I have something I can start with, but I'm always trying to hone this. On some of my ops accounts I would have as many as 30 for one doc, & that was after a year of building this up. This makes it really hard to consider switching jobs or accounts.

[ In Reply To ..]just so you know. One company I worked for secretly manipulated the counting so our line counts came in lower and lower over time, very gradually. It started after a change of platforms, so the cause wasn't obvious. I didn't suspect it for months (in spring and early summer I was scamping work to go play more in the garden), but eventually I tightened up and income didn't improve back to what I expected. I finally contacted someone I knew in the same company, who it turned out had been carefully measuring her work and time and comparing findings with others, and learned this was happening to all of us.

Hi! Just wanted to know... I have been told by others who are QA/editors that you dont always get paid by the line or by hour... some places pay them differently. I have been promoted to QA and was wondering what the average line count you that do QA get in an hour or a day. I have been doing this for a few months and I am making about the same amount of money per month as I was with MT. Am I being too slow? I am afraid to speed it up for fear of missing something.
