Is it just me or is the term - dying2getout

"medical language specialist" the stupidest thing ever?  Why are they trying to glorify the title of this dead-end, one-way ticket to NOWHERE lame profession???  WHATEVER!!!!!!!

agree with you - see message

They are using "medical language specialist" because the actual "transcribing" is being done by VR, etc. So many MTs just edit/correct anymore - they don't transcribe.

Well, with the enormous competition for that title - Poppy

maybe not, but learning I was now was one was a definite smile- and eyebrow-raiser. It also took me several months to remember what MLS stood for whenever it popped up. :)

it's not like it's new - been around for 20 years or more

Perhaps you're just hearing now that you're totally disillusioned? :)

Actually, as we move forward into record manipulation (as opposed to transcribing) perhaps that title fits better than medical transcriptionist.

It is not a new term - Roma

Yes it has been around a long time now. When I was working back in the early 90s, that came about. This was just the real beginning of using what the computers were able to do, and as PCs became more and more a part of the home and offices and their technology and abilites understood, and this has greatly expanded now.

And voice recognition at this time was not that big, just getting a start and not many people had access to it.

But either way, who cares what they call us or me that is. LOL

Just at least pay me my check. Right now I am still looking for work, but not giving up for sure.

Thank God right now I am not totally on my own though. And, really I do feel bad for all of you people who are on your own.

Jobs in any fashion right now, are tough to come by, at least ones that pay any decent wages.

Ok thanks for reading my rant here. LOL

Okay fine and dandy... - dying2getout

It's not a new term but my paycheck for being a "medical language specialist" is most definitely new....and it sucks.
its probably more designed - sm

to encompass not only the MT but the editors and all too.
