IC line rate of 9 cents per minute????? - curiousMT

I have never heard of being paid by minute of dictation. What would you say is fair for an experienced MT doing acute care as an IC? Is 9 cents per minute low, or is it just me? Anyone have any input on this or experience with this type of pay plan? Thanks in advance.

I just realized I forgot the 0. It is 90 cents per minute of dictation, all straight typing.

That's about the average that services are paying for by the report. $.90 per report is low and unless there was tons of canned text I wouldn't accept it.

Assuming 20 minutes of dictation time per hour - which is fairly average

At 20 dictated minutes per hour of work, you're earning $18 per hour, which is somewhere close to typical but a bit on the low side for IC.

Of course, if you can do 25 minutes of dictation an hour, you're at $22.50 per hour, which would be reasonable.

It's not that unusual for people to hit 30 minutes of dictation in an hour, either, which would be $27/hr.

The nice thing about being paid this way is when you get those dictators who hem and haw and pause (or talk to other people in the room, answer phone calls, etc.). You're being paid to sit through all that instead of not being paid anything.

Worked for a hospital once for $1.25 per dictated minute up to - 2500 min a month then $1.50 a min.

Even at 50 cents an audio minute, if you get a 10-minute report that would equate to $5.00. Usually it takes 30 minutes to do a 10-minute report so that would mean one would receive $10.00 an hour. If only getting 40 cents, that's $8.00 an hour. PFFT! I don't see how this is any improvement over our standard slave wages, yet their ad sounds like they invented the wheel or sliced bread. With a name like "Fox," it's got to be bad. (Apologies to Smucker's.) ...

So there is job posted that pays 30 cents an audio minute. How generous! You figure depending on the dictator and difficulty of transcript 60 minutes of audio is equal to 3 hours of transcribing. Granted, most of the time it does not take that long, but just in case for good measure we'll say 3 hours for 60 audio minutes. Do the math! 30 cents a minute x 60 (1 hr)= 1800. So another words, if you divide 1800 by 3 you get your hourly rate = 6 buck ...

I've been working for a national company for over 5 years and all of my accounts have been transitioned to 100% SR work at 4.5 cents per line (a far cry from what I used to make). When I took the Career Step course not even 5 years ago, the industry supposedly was paying on average 6-9 cents a line. I worked in a hospital at an hourly wage for a few years and was recently laid off and am working at one of the online companies now - and I REALLY want to know what happened to the 6-9 cents a line I was told was industry standard FIVE years ago? Noticed in the MQ MT "rewards" plan (wow I can't even type that w/o laughing), that as of Feb 1 the pay will be a flat 4 cents per line for ASR. It does say this applies to new hires only; however, it says if hired prior to Feb 1 the editing rate will be "equal to the greater of 60% of the transcription base rate." What does "equal to or greater of 60%" mean exactly? Does that just mean 60% of your regular straight transcription rate like it is now?&nbs ...
