Any companies pay more than 4.5 cents per line on SR/VR? - marol

I've been working for a national company for over 5 years and all of my accounts have been transitioned to 100% SR work at 4.5 cents per line (a far cry from what I used to make). I'm now basically making minimum wage due to all the editing that needs to be done to these reports (and we've been on SR for over a year now). They keep making changes to improve SR but it's just getting worse and worse. From what I've read it sounds like 4.5 cents per line is the standard pay for SR/VR but I was just curious if there are any companies out there that pay more. I would hate to go back to work outside the home since I have a newborn baby but I just cannot continue on at my company.

and that is with 25 plus years of experience with all specialties. It's bad all over and I don't know that we can do a darn thing about it!!!

when experienced (former) transcriptionists-turned-editors leave the low-paying editor jobs for other careers and the available pool is not there anymore.

With most of my accounts there is tremendous editing needed, not just straight reading and submitting, and my pay has decreased significantly (about $600 less per month so far on editing).

I'm looking into other careers as such. I can't live on the money I'm making, and I don't see how I can produce more with the amount of editing needed (practically retyping every report). I COULD look for another job but it seems to be this way across the board so I'm not going to bother.

I can't help but wonder what is going to happen in the future for the editing industry when the pool of experienced transcriptionists is depleted due to career changes. Who are they going to hire to edit? Where are the trained editors going to come from? Are there schools for editing now, or do people still go to transcription school believing there is still a job market for transcriptionists? Are people willing to go to school to make $10 an hour or less, or are they going to believe the stories that editors make MORE money? I can't imagine paying to go to school to make a salary that low.

What goes around comes around, and eventually this will crash and burn.

It's almost like they want all the top producers/experienced MTs to leave the field. We have lost so many people recently and out of 10 MTs on my account I am the only one left. Since they put new MTs on the account the client has been very upset about their quality which never happened with our old team. I used to like what I do but now I no longer enjoy it. It's hard not to compare the way things were with the way they are now, especially since I was making good money when I first started but over the years I've made less and less and now I'm barely making minumum wage.

I am in the same boat. Losing money hand over fist with VR editing when I am essentially re-typing the entire report due to errors. My company lost the account I subcontracted on for over 5 years so they could go to VR. I can't imagine what medical records would look like without the editing, but still all the training and time we had to go through learning then to be displaced by software that is not improving the industry at all and making more work instead. Does it compensate for ESL dictators or the physicians who insist on eating lunch at the same time as dictating? My company assured me I would still have a constant work flow, but so far am only working less than part time. I too am seeking employment elsewhere, but I imagine sooner or later VR will be everywhere, and until someone realizes it is really not as cost effective or productive as supposed to be, hopefully we have not all changed fields by then

When I took the Career Step course not even 5 years ago, the industry supposedly was paying on average 6-9 cents a line. I worked in a hospital at an hourly wage for a few years and was recently laid off and am working at one of the online companies now - and I REALLY want to know what happened to the 6-9 cents a line I was told was industry standard FIVE years ago? I'm making 4 cents a line now -- how does an industry pay LESS 5 years later? ...

Noticed in the MQ MT "rewards" plan (wow I can't even type that w/o laughing), that as of Feb 1 the pay will be a flat 4 cents per line for ASR. It does say this applies to new hires only; however, it says if hired prior to Feb 1 the editing rate will be "equal to the greater of 60% of the transcription base rate." What does "equal to or greater of 60%" mean exactly? Does that just mean 60% of your regular straight transcription rate like it is now?&nbs ...

and 3 cents for VR? Unbelievable! That equates to about 5 cents and 2 cents per line respectively after taxes, and they require a second or third shift schedule. Are they serious? I guess some MTs are content to work for little more than minimum wage. Too bad! ...

This is probably a dumb question, but please no snide remarks. If you do not have any constructive comments, please move on. If you only do QA and are paid by cents per line (NOT hourly), how do you make any money or plan your day. Are you not dependent on how many reports other Medical Transcriptionists send to QA? She says the offer was "set in stone." This makes me believe that MQ is going to either try to cut everyone's ASR pay to 4 cents a line. They will either get rid of the ones somehow (nit pitting followed by QA pay cuts, making "tweaks" to DQS that are annoying and slow us down, causing up to want to quit, etc) or we will accept their new "set in stone" rate. They will sugar coat it by saying, "We are ONLY reducing your ASR pay not your regular transcription rate" and then ...

Hey, I thought the moderator "unposted" the jobs that were posted here if they paid less than 4 cents a line. I wonder whatever happened to that? It seems like I read that somewhere, anyhow. At 3 cents a line, TTD is beginning to bump up against the states' minimum wages. The only way that I see that they will be able to get around that is by saying they will hire independent contractors only, and I don't think we are all so stupid as to take 3 ...

I have a question: I currently make 8 cents a line, but it is VBC. If I had a job that paid 7 cents normally, but paid for spaces and other things in the report would one be coming out ahead making at least 8 cents a line or may be even more when it is all figured out? Has anyone ever done this and actually making more $$$ by making the 7 cents a line instead of 8 cents? I used to have a job that paid 10 to 10.5 cents a line, but they sold out. I was just ...

Has anyone heard of a company called North American Transcription Company. They claim to have all US MT's but they only charge clients 6 cents per line. How is this possible? ...
