I am feeling rather frustrated and need to vent... Over the last month or so I have been actively pursuing other employment in the MT field. I realize the pickins are slim and the grass is NOT GREENER on the other side, so to speak, but it is what it is and this is the field I am in and need to be in while my kids still need me at home....
However, I am an experienced MT (14+ years experience)... while I understand a company wanting you to test, I do not understand these lengthy 2-hour long cumbersome tests that I have seen lately. I have tested with a few companies over the past month and twice I have seen the identical test, evidently one associated with Career Step because of the verbiage associated with it. I am not a new graduate needing to be tested on what I have learned. By no means do I mean to say that I "know it all" but geez, 3 different very LONG sections on punctuation, spelling, medical terminology, sentence structure, etc. ON TOP OF 3 dictations totaling at least 15 minutes..... I SAILED through the first sections, even though they took me over an hour....but they were pretty easy and I had to only look up a couple of things I was not 100% sure about.... but then I get to the transcription portion and I have spent an hour just trying to get it to work!!! I am so frustrated!!! They offer no technical support and only say "you can use your own player if this one does not work"....well, I do not own player software nor do I want to download one onto my computer to junk it up. The test has the option to use keyboard controls as well, but (a) when was the last time you were efficient with typing and trying to control playback with the keyboard?? and (b) I cannot get that to work either.....
urrrrggghhhh!!! Just had to vent....
