How Would Doctors React to... - Angie

Learning that MTs and Editors have to use ancient computers to run the software needed since the developers of some of these programs will not update what the MTs have to use, requiring us to use Win XP, Word 2002, 2003, etc. Microsoft no longer sells such old Word programs and it is just about impossible to find a computer in good shape with XP. This coming spring Microsoft is discontinuing support on Win XP. Are the doctors aware that we can't go on forever with these outdated programs and hardware? Would they choose to take the risk of purchasing such expensive EMR and VR programs if they knew that transcription and editing would not be available for much longer due to our outdated programs?
The reason I ask is because I am sick of spending day after day with technical problems, searching classifieds for old computers and paying $149. for a 10 year old word processing program CD. The clients using this software should know how out of date the transcription and editing side is right now.
What makes you think they would care at all. Besides, it is management - to runs everything, not the doctors. nm

having old programs and computers. Doctors are more than aware and complain just as much as MTs do. This is just one reason why MTSOs have been able to make in-roads into hospitals. At my hospital, it was the department directors, both physicians, who presented the idea of going with an MTSO to upper management. The rest of the physicians were thrilled to be getting updated software but are now horrified with the MTSO and wish the transition never happened.
BTW, it wasn't that long ago that one of my side job clients retired. I still had a computer with Windows 3.1 on it for them.
Our doctors did not like outsourcing either at first. - They grew a callus real fast. nm- so sad!

Our doctors were furious when they learned the in-house staff would be laid off and an MTSO would be doing the work. One very vocal and picky doctor who was our most difficult really went to bat for us. She's still very hard on the MTs, but the others just spell everything, sigh, complain, etc. They were told by upper management to put up and shut up.
Go ahead and share this shocking information - with

as many doctors as you can get to stand still and listen to you. They will likely stare at you as though you are speaking Martian, ask "So what?", or simply ignore you and walk away.
They don't care what the MT experiences. It is simply not on their radar.
There it is, yet another reason to get out of MT - Nobody cares. nm

Do not take this the wrong way, but your post made me chuckle. - You are so right. No one does care. (sm)

There is not a soul out there that could give one fat rat's butt what we do or how we do it. They lose no sleep at all. Believe me! LOL

Doctors DO care if a preop consult gets to the surgeon before the surgery. Hospitals DO want their discharge summaries completed to open up more beds for new patienst and more money. Dermatologists DO want the pathology report on a skin lesion they submitted before the patient comes in for the results. An oncologist does need to know if the chemo treatment a week prior was at a reduced dose, etc., etc. At the same time, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if no one thought to comlain about the outdated PCs and software until it's too late and TAT gets longer and longer the more PCs crash.

Is that platforms such as Dictaphone ExText and other Word based programs will not run on newer versions of Word, and Windows 7 is not compatible with the older versions so people still need XP. I work on site and we are still using it, only replacing computers with Windows 7 if they die. If you want to blame anyone, blame the software manufacturers (i.e. Microsoft) for compatibililty issues. I have a Windows 7 PC at home but also kept my old XP machine because it still works. You can have a PC custom built, it is not necessary to buy someone else's outdated, used equipment.

Spoke with Dictaphone last spring, & I asked about this same topic, i.e. having to have old Windows XP computers & use old Word programs. He said we have been lied to by our companies, & that the hospital I transcribed for was not willing to pay for an upgrade on ictaphone ExText...That particular hospital was using a system FOUR upgrades ago! I'm sure it's costly to upgrade, but I am tired also of trying to find an old XP computer. More tired of the lies though!
They should just ditch the computers, XP, the programs, - & go back to typewriters. Less drama! nm

Best years of my life. Oh, and I might add I had access to my doctors to ask questions without being told I am inadequate. I also had breaks, lunch, health benefits, paid time off, and was left alone and told that I was appreciated. Loved it!

It May Be People Like Turning Worm Who Caused MQ To React And Lay Off For Fear Sm Apr 04, 2013of a possible class action lawsuit. If you started taking things to the Labor Board you can bet MQ will be forced to let go of people. I'm not saying MM is not to blame because I DO believe they are sending 80% of the work to India for cheap labor and to avoid excessive taxes. They have a right to do that. MM provided work to American workers to provide some with jobs, not to make a profit. It's expensive to employ American MTs thanks to the US Govt, but that's for another day.&nb ...
"There Was A Time When Doctors Were Doctors" By James Ong May 06, 2014From the KevinPho MD site:
There was a time when doctors were doctors. There was a time when young men and women sacrificed the best years of their youth, learning to treat patients and conquer diseases, not to become typists, paper pushers, data-entry clerks, or to have hospitals, insurance companies, and the federal government dictate to us how to practice medicine.
There was a time when doctors were trusted. There was a time when we were not guilty until proven ot ...
Doctors Who Cut Themselves Off Feb 05, 2010Doesn't it drive you nuts when a doctor consistently cuts himself off when he dictates? Regular rate and....?

Anyone Know? Are Doctors And NP Or Anyone Aug 15, 2014encounters, are they required to have a short course on proper dictation procedure? I would think, being that this medical record is sooo freaking important that we are drawn and quartered if not perfect, that these professionals who generate these reports would also be schooled about proper pronunciation, enunciation, etc. before they throw it out there for us to perfect. Getting kind of sick of these lazy, mush-mouthed, slurred, rapid and mispronounced dictations. ...

Inconsiderate Doctors Nov 03, 2009Why is it the doctors cannot give you the information you need in the order you need it. They all know the standards and they will sure raise hell if we deviate. Transcription Doctors TTD Feb 21, 2010To the poster who posted below looking for information on TTD. They don't have their own accounts. They work for Superior Global and maybe others. Superior pays them to find ICs. They probably pay them 4 cpl and then TTD pays you a cruddy 3 cpl to edit VR reports. They don't offer direct deposit because Superior is paying them and then they pay you, which is why you have to wait a month for your check. I would never work for a company that is just bascially an agency hir ...

Student Doctors! Nov 04, 2010Why, oh why, oh why can't the students hit the PAUSE button when they are dictating to gather their thoughts? I Think The Q Should Be Educating All The Doctors Mar 24, 2011that they are dictating for ASR and how to do it, punctuation and all. They need to take some responsibility for this. If they would dictate for ASR, ASR output would likely be better. I base this on the doctors who do dictate everything, including punctuation and the fact the output is good for this doctors. Although, these doctors do tend to speak in a more understandable manner. I spend too much time stopping to punctuate, and I shouldn't need to. ...

Where Do Doctors Dictate? Oct 13, 2011Ok, I'm curious, but can doctos do their dictations anywhere?
A lot of times, I hear a bunch of doctors in like some sort of dictation room. You can hear other doctors doing dications. I just picture a bunch of people in white coats sitting at a desk talking into a phone. lol.
Other times it sounds like they're in an emergency room while an emergency is going on. People are asking for things, things are clanging around.
Sometimes it sounds like they're in their own home. Had an ...
