I am nervous but breathing a sigh of relief!!! After countless applications, I was offered and accepted a secretarial job in a local school. Less hours, but at least I know what I am getting paid weekly! I will have the same days off as my children. I am looking forward to this new chapter and happily spreading my wings :0)

For my fellow MTs, keep trying, keep plugging away. It is possible! I will let you know what life is like on the outside in a few weeks once I start.

My continued good wishes to everyone here!!!

I may also try that avenue again. I wound up working for the superintendent and had to work year-round though, but it was easy work. Summers were casual attire, went more formal for the school year but that was fun too. Seeing the kids was fun.

I'm sure you will enjoy it and the change of atmosphere most of all! Congratulations again!

When I get laid off at the end of the year I plan on drawing unemployment and have my application in for the school system - hopefully I can get hired on in the cafeteria at one of our 3 local school systems. Weekends off and summers off with the kids! Good luck to you and sooooooooo happy for you! You will do great!

I knew it! I knew that if you pursued the school district job, you'd get it! Remember, I told you that it was exactly how I got my current job at the university, because I started subbing at the public schools as a secretary and T.A. Also, I kept busy with assignments from 4 different temp agencies. This gave me enough references and experiences to get hired at the university full time, where I make about $32,000. Plus I still work at home doing MT work a few evenings a week. I am doing the happy dance for you!!!

Thank you so very much for the encouragement and well wishes. It truly means so much to me! I will continue to keep you all in my well wishes in the hope that everyone will find their new direction! I had considered doing 10 hours of MTing on the side, but my company does not permit less than 20 hours p/t. So for now, I will walk down this new path, buoyed by your wishes and support.

This job is full year but the best part, as I said, was having the same days off as my kids and knowing what to expect in the paycheck. Also, it means getting a foot in the door where other possibilities are bound to turn up.

Has anyone elsed noticed that ASR sometimes "takes a break" on Fridays??? I was doing pretty good with my line count for the week, hoping to make a decent bonus tier for this last week before the new pay plan rolls out. Then, BOOM... nearly all reports are straight transcription this morning. Long op notes that I usually edit this time each day (and can get a very good LPH) I now have to type out. Wrote my supervisors an email that I was quitting and said all the things I have wanted to say for so long but didn't dare, then proceeded to delete all their software from my computer, including email, and will never look back. Cashing in a pension plan from a previous job that will carry me through until June when I am 62 and can retire. Done with this thankless job!!! ...

I have tried on 3 different computers and could not open on any of them (different operating systems and versions). the last one said a threat was detected; however, when I check the sender it does come from Nuance. I have only been there for about 6 weeks, but the payroll lady seems to get the checks out lightning fast. However, I realize the 15th is happening in the middle of the week, so payday might not be until Monday. With the dictator from hell, 16 PGN in a row, and everybody sitting there waiting for somebody else to do him - the catch this time is that somewhere along the line in the last 2 weeks of getting stuck with these every single night is that I learned to understand him! So, I sat there taking all those progress notes that nobody else wanted and only had to send 2 of 16 to QA for blanks this time and my percent to QA still stayed under 5.71% and I got 200 easy lines with nobody snatching ...
