Best word expander for Escription - henderlor

Posted: Oct 08, 2013

Its time to renew my PCShorthand license.  I was just wondering if there is a better word expander to use with Escription or if I should just be using the Microsoft autotext (or what ever it is called).  IF so, is there a way to transfer my PCShorthand files to Microsoft?

IT is wonderful with eScription. You can do so much with it! And you can import your SH files into Instant Text. I strongly recommend downloading their 30-day trial so you can try it out. They have great support too. HTH

Warning: You can't copy and paste your own expansions on the fly in Instant Text - in EditScript unless...

your supervisor agrees to turn on the "clipboard" for you.  Consider your own supervisor and/or tech support relationship with that caveat in mind.  Try googling 'editscript instant text issues' for more info.

Yes, you do need to have the clipboard in EditScript - enabled. Thanks! sm

PS- be careful with googling it. I only found all posts referencing version V. Anyway the best suggestion would be to download the trial and see if it works for you. Everyone enjoys a different cup of tea. =)

instant text editscript word advisory issues

Includes the same problem with IT 7 Pro, as well as issues with copying templated text back into EditScript.

I'm fearful that incompatibilities will simply get worse over time, as each EditScript upgrade tends to bring me more headaches than relief now, and I just use Autocorrect with it.

A clipboard disabled in and by - EditScript

is a restriction that does not allow you to copy and paste whether you use Instant Text or not.

If you have to live with this restriction, you will need to type the words you add to your expander(s).

It's Word-based. I copy mine into Autocorrect with no problem. - EditScript user and Word student

I also actually use that fact to circumvent the disabled clipboard by copying from the "With" field in Autocorrect entry to ease my Google searches via a macro I made. I guess, in a very roundabout way, that might be done for Instant Text too without having the clipboard turned on, possibly, by making a macro that exploits that same Autocorrect feature.

I think turning the clipboard off is a ridiculous and, frankly, insulting restriction (supposedly for HIPAA reasons, but I have always signed a confidentiality agreement wherever I've worked in EditScript) since one could easily copy the uploaded report via Search Dictations and Transcriptions or take a screenshot or copy from the Downloads folder, etc., etc., if one so chose. But I just have to mentally sigh and figure out my own way around such silliness, as with my Autocorrect macro. More than one way to skin an illogical IT decision.
There is always a workaround - MMK

Thanks for pointing out why you think it is an illogical IT (Information Technology) decision.

It is definitely not an IT (Instant Text) decision!  :-)

Oh, oops, yep. Hadn't noticed the possibility for misconstrual there, obviously. - nm

I'm looking for a word expander that really works well with the way I want to type.  I want a word expander that expands with any trigger, i.e, space bar, apostrophe, parenthesis, period, comma, etc. I also want an expander that allows me to build on an existing word without creating an inappropriate word.  For instance, my shortcut for lymphocytes is ly.  When the VR text gives my essential, and I want to turn it into essentially, I want to be able to add the ly t ...
