A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
1. I s/w an MTSO today for a potential job. They told me that they are going to be switching platforms and that the new software comes with a 30-day free license but after that, they ask that all MTs pay a $250 license fee. She said it was refundable after employment ended so long as I sign off that I will not use the software anywhere else. This sounds kinda fishy to me, since it seems that this expense should be something paid for by the company.
2. Also, they told me that b/c it's an ICMT position, the IRS now requires that all pay be deposited into a separate business account under a business name, which I have neither a business account or business license, for that matter. Is this new or is this person misinformed?
3. Lastly, I was also told I needed to carry professional liability insurance for breach of protected health info, not for errors and omissions, at my expense, of course. I've never carried liability insurance before. Granted, I have only been doing this a couple years, but it was never a requirement anywhere else.
4. BTW, this job pays 7 cpl and, as I said, as an IC. Like I said, I am new, but even to me, 7 cpl for IC status plus all the extra out-of-pocket expenses seems pretty low.
Any thoughts?
