I passed my CPC! Yeah! - sm - Coder-to-be

Posted: Jul 14, 2011

Now the hard part - finding a job!  Very glad the testing is over - phew!

Congratulations! Are you going for the CCS now? - Just Wondering

Congratulations on passing the CPC exam! Now that you have that, are you planning on adding a CCS, or have you thought about that yet?

If not, why did you decide on the CPC rather than the CCS?

If so, why, and how are you preparing for it?

I didn't decide yet on the CCS - sm - Coder-to-be

I honestly did not know who to take a course with for the CCS. The CPC is taught in the classroom by someone fairly local to me and I wanted a real teacher in the flesh. Ironically, she is going to teach a CCS course in the fall. Still deciding on that.

Honestly, not sure I want to do the CCS, however, that being said, in my area, the CCS is the most prevalent job opening we have. In my local hospital, NO ONE is certified as a CCS. Unreal. Here I could be certified but have no experience. It is a catch-22 situation, you know?

There are no CPC jobs open immediately in my area, I'd have to travel to a job, which I am not willing to do at this point. They all want experience though. I am hoping to get a foot in the door since I have been a CMT for over 25 years so I am not a complete newbie to the medical field. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Congratulations, Coder-to-be! - And a question . . .

It is encouraging to see people who are passing the exam! Good for you!

I haven't started a coding course yet but have been researching over a year.

My question is - I noticed on the board you had asked about going through practice exams before taking the test.
Did you end up doing that? If so, are you glad you did? Would you recommend it be done in addition to whatever course a person takes? Thanks.

Absolutely - take those practice exams! - sm - Coder-to-be

I took a course with an AAPC teacher, in person. I knew I wouldn't like trying to do it on my own, even though it was a pain going to class (an hour each way).

The teacher gave us two different practice tests and they were extremely helpful. Very similar to the test and I could time myself to make sure I was moving along at the right pace to finish the test on time.

I am SO glad I don't have to take it over again. You definitely want to pass the first time!

Jan 23, 2013

Okay, here I go again.  Time to start my shift and NJA.  This is the second day in a row this week for me.  Guess I will again be working second shift out of necessity and not choice.  Looking for a second job but don't know how that is going to work since right now I do not have a "set" schedule with M-Modal.  When I looked at my W-2, in the last 3 years my income has gone down by 1/2.  OUCH!  Where is that magic genie?  Where is that winning l ...

Seriously, Some People Do 300 LPH On ASR? Oh Yeah Sm
Mar 24, 2011

I pride myself on using ALL tools given us.  I have ALWAYS been diligent in making my reports as perfect as possible.  I ALWAYS researched terms new and not known, looking up old reports to help on unfamiliar hospitals and doctors.  If I could transcribe (old term type) my reports I could easily do 300-500 lph, but I CANNOT get any of this type of work.  I get 98% ASR.  Lately it has become more than stupid!!!   Entire wrong terms are entered when the doctor is ...

Just got the survey email.  What a joke! The Senior Executive Team (SET) and I are deeply committed to improving the M*Modal employee experience and culture, and to do that successfully, we need to receive candid feedback from everyone.... it's that critical and that valuable to understand the employee perspective as completely as possible -- across geographies and across functions -- so that we can become the best place to work in the industry. ...

I am writing this email to inform you that tonight will be my last night with Nuance Transcription Services. Over my many years in the workforce, I must say this is the first resignation letter I have penned without any sense of melancholy fondness for the job I am leaving behind. No, instead, it is a feeling of liberation from "time served." For the past 7 months, I have put in my time here at Nuance, suffered through many countless hours of horrible voice recognition files, made next to ...

Passed The CPC-H Certification!
Sep 25, 2012

I just got my results in the mail from AAPC that I passed the certification exam for CPC-H! I have been an MT for decades and when my last in-house MT job was outsourced, I decided I'd better get moving on to coding. Coding is very difficult and I had quite a time completing the online CPC-H course offered by AAPC. I started in the Spring and just got certified. I want all the MTs out there to know that terminology, A&P are helpful to already know! It was not easy to get this certificat ...

Has Anyone Passed These Audits?
Apr 02, 2014

I have yet to pass one, how the heck, with say 3 minor errors can you possible pass these things? I want to quit so badly but have no prospective jobs. So the question boils down to basically, is at what percentage of errors are they firing people? 99.5, 99 what? I just cannot see how this is possible to do. My thoughts are that they are going to try this stupid goal and see who comes the closest to the 99.7% unrealistic BS and keep them. I also cannot see how the Indians are doing this, s ...
