words having to be corrected over and over - MT slave

Posted: Feb 26, 2015

Has anyone else who works for imedx noticed that no matter how many times words are edited they always have to be corrected in every report? Two that come to mind are milligrams and micrograms.

very frustrating - zany

I agree. One time someone typed those wrong and the whole bunch of us can't seem to get through to that stupid VR. Have you also noticed this... When VR first started, I wasn't changing near what I'm changing now. Instead of getting smarter, as they said it would, it is getting more stupid by the day.

zany, it isn't the transcriptionist who needs to get - through to the stupid VR, sm

[ In Reply To ..]
it is the person dictating who needs to dictate properly who will train the VR, not the MT. I mean listen, every time I get a dictator who says next number, VR types out next number. I'm just erasing the words next number over and over and over again. So, yeah, that would also be some type of programming that would have to be done for the VR to recognize that it was actually #2 and #3 where all that mess needs to go.

Somebody who is responsible for that is slacking - on the job

[ In Reply To ..]
That is a simple formatting issue that can be set in VR to default to the correct style. It doesn't matter if an MT transcribes it wrong, once it is set, it will always revert to the 'correct' way.

I don't think anyone is slacking per se - anon

They might not even be aware of their ability to enter the Properties and make the adjustment.

But, seriously, you copy/paste the document into Word Pad and then do a Find/Replace. Copy it back to Word and you're good to do. I do it all the time.

copy/paste - how

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't understand, you do a find/replace for each of the words (milligrams to mg, millimeter to mm, centimeter to cm)? Or is there something in word pad that can correct them all at once? If not, this is a huge waste of time.

Find/Replace - imedxMT

[ In Reply To ..]
Why not just use the find/replace button right in the program rather than doing all that copying and pasting? As for me, I refuse to keep abbreviating these values when they could just set the defaults. That's too much time and energy with accounts being so low anyway. I'm still waiting for the system to learn how to spell Texas, and I KNOW there are no MTs being confused about how to spell that!
copy/paste - in document
[ In Reply To ..]
I may start using your philosophy and quit making all those corrections in the document. They DO need to fix it. I tend to think it is the client that would have to do this rather than the MTSO. I have asked several times to account manager with no success (not her fault I am sure). I waste so much of my time making these corrections.

I do my find/replace within the document on whatever I think the most common correction will be on that document, which most of the time is milligrams. I only do 1 per report like this, and the rest I just correct as I edit. I could move so much faster if the client would take the time to fix this on their end. The account I work on at Imedx (TT) used to be "fixed" until about 2 years ago and something changed. ExEditor.
Right on! Everybody needs to stop thinking some MT caused - all these errors, seriously, nm

I think it depends on the facility. I have one account that is so fantastic, the other a total wreck. Burns my buns to get paid almost 1/2 to literally have to type VR.

words having to be corrected over and over - Despise VR and Imedx

[ In Reply To ..]
This is definitely something the MT will never be able to correct--that is just the lie they tell us. It is very expensive for the companies involved to have this junk changed on IT's end so they keep having us do it. The account you speak of with the mg and mcg expansion was supposed to be fixed a long time ago and never was and possibly will not be. It was not like that a year or so ago. It has nothing to do with some MT messing up but it is cheaper for the company to convince us of such, claim that the client is not happy if it is expanded, and have us constantly fix it.

beg to differ - zany

[ In Reply To ..]
I have no proof, but I am convinced it was an MT who had this account as a backup account and was primarily on the account that we no longer have which required all words to be expanded including milligrams, micrograms, centimeters, millimeters, etc. Ever since they got that account is when this started. In essence, it was a thoughtless MT who was paying no attention to the AS. TYVM for the present.

They would have to program the VR for the - abbreviations, sm

[ In Reply To ..]
it's VR. It hears the word milligrams and types out milligrams. It does not know if you want it abbreviated or not. Seriously, it has nothing to do with an MT spelling out the word. If the physician dictated mg then it would type out mg, when they dictated milligrams, the VR types out milligrams because it hears the word milligrams (unless it is programmed to do the abbreviation, it is going to spell out the word).

That's the silliest thing I've ever heard, it's the - program, not the MT, nm

[ In Reply To ..]
...

Think about it zany - they lie

[ In Reply To ..]
It is a VR product. Since when have we as MTs ever spoken to this junk. Likewise, if MTs had any control over it, why is it not fixed after a multitude of us correct it repeatedly. No way is this an MTs fault and the sooner we all realize it the better.

I have worked for other MTSO's - where that happened

[ In Reply To ..]
with VR. It is not the company it is the platform. At this point with people losing their jobs, at least you still have a job, stop complaining. If Imedx didn't need MT's to make corrections, you would be out of a job. You can either do the work or give your job to someone else that needs it.

I know right, and we were all told how much less - work we would be doing, sm

[ In Reply To ..]
hence the cut in pay. I don't know about you, but adjusting the VR to produce an abbreviation instead of the expanded word just seems like a simple step that would possibly increase my pay. I don't do VR, but heck yeah I'd be complaining.

Corrected Incorrectly?
Jan 17, 2011

So I have a pretty good editor, I don't dislike him at all. Every once in a while though, he will correct something that I didn't do wrong, either by missing something else in the report, or just marking something red that I had already typed in my original report becuase it was left next to another blank, etc. This has only happened about 3 times in 4 months, but it concerns me because it is very important to me that I look good and maintain high quality standards so that I can get wh ...

An ESL dictator said, "patient no more on anticoagulation."   I put, "patient no LONGER on anticoagulation." It was changed to "more" like the dictator did say, but of course that is incorrect English usage.  No matter--it was marked as a "verbiage error."  I should have known.  How can the VR get trained if we correct even obvious errors like this?   This is really humiliating to have to actually transcribe like this. ...
