They offer 7 cpl for a 65 VBC line (text) and 3 cpl for a 65 VBC (speech) ... and I would be an independent contractor. --- Would I be interested in a position?

I just read on another site average MT wage $17 hour, $3000 a month. Is this what ya experience. VBL means virtual black line--the spaces are not counted. Would like a reply or even email in private

This might have been true 4 or 5 years ago, but I would say half that is more likely now and pretty much anywhere you go that is what it is....I used to average over $20/hour working 30 hours a week and that was considered full time. I now work 40 hours a week and make less than minimum wage for my state. The system is totally screwed up...

other MTSOs better take heed. I know of 2 off the top of my head that are popular on this board and are guilty of paying below minimum wage for extended periods of time, and by the way also of IC violations! Maybe if enough of them get sued, they will straighten up and this field will become respectable again!

P.S. I won't even consider working for any company paying only for black characters, it is just outrageous!

I have 2 job offers from 2 different companies, but both of these companies are fairly large and have multiple posts with complaints that there is just not enough work for everyone. Wow. I was just offered a job by MQ. I politely asked if the 'rumors' were true about being docked for sending reports to QA. I was informed that if you are supposed to do 6,000 lines a week and 300 lines total come to QA, then yes you would be docked 3 cents per line. I am an MT with 20+ years experience and switched careers a year ago when our hospital's Transcription Department was eliminated and all transcription was outsourced. I lost my job a few months ago. I started applying, testing, waiting to hear from companies. I did get hired this week part-time for VRE work and it pays peanuts. I got a job offer at Probity. The pay has an incentive built in for anything over 5000 lines per pay period. Does anyone know what the pay period is?
