checks - nobs
Posted: Jun 19, 2010Do most companies hold back the first check for 1 week? or are they all different?
Just curious.
Most hold the 1st check until the 2nd pay period, - sm

so if you are on a 2-week pay schedule, or paid on specific dates of the month, it could be 3 to 4 weeks before your first check.
I have never had my paycheck held in 25 years. - me

With most companies pay periods end the 15th and the last day of the month. I get my paycheck on the 20th following the 15th pay period and on the 9th following the last day of the month pay period. Some companies may hold a check depending on where you are in the pay period.
The last 3 companies I have worked for end the pay period on the 15th and pay on the 1st. sm - TooOldForThis

The second period ends the last day of the month and pays on the 15th.
did not think companies could do that - typetypetypeaway

I used to be employed as an accounting manager 16 years ago before switching careers and I thought that regarding payroll, a company was not allowed to hold back a paycheck especially for 15 or 16 days after the pay period ended. Maybe times have changed since I sat in that office seat. I am presently being paid on a biweekly payroll as an MT. My pay period ends on a Saturday every 2 weeks, I submit my timesheet by that Monday after it ends and receive my paycheck via direct deposit on Thursday, so the most waiting has to do with the company calling in the pay to the payroll company for processing and direct depositing. I don't think I ever waited 15 to 20 days for my pay in any job I had, both in the accounting field or in my present MT field. But now I will do some checking in the IRS law on pay earned and received.
Maybe as an employee that is true (don't know) - sm - ECMT

but as an IC they can pretty much pay you whenever they want, obviously you agree to terms in advance though. You are sending them a bill they are paying it. Since it is recurring bill though obviously it should be paid on a regular basis. Like others here I am paid the 1st and 16th of each month, and am paid for the previous 2-week period so the 1-15 is paid on the following 1st day of the next month. I am paid the same day I invoice. At other jobs I have billed for the current period and they would pay me 1-2 weeks later generally, all washes out the same basically.
Yes, IC status different pay terms - typetypetypeaway

I wasn't sure if the original poster was an employee or IC. I don't think she said. I was referring to employee status. I have never been an IC so there could be terms of payment. I read on a CA website, on payroll alone, that a company has 7 days in which to pay employee after submitting time records for the previous 2-week period.
I have worked for some that paid a week after - sm -

I invoiced them. Where I am now, first check was held a month, so I worked for four weeks before I say a dime, not too big an issue as I was working another IC positon at the same time. So get paid for two week period two weeks from the last day of that pay period. Gives them 2-weeks time to get the money in from the work then pay us. Our checks are never held though even if they have not been paid. Have never had an issue with any of the jobs I have had luckily. Waiting for the first check was a drag but its been worth it as I have been there for over 3 years now.

I started for a company and she held TWO paychecks on me. Didn't get paid first check for over a month! When I questioned her on this, she basically told me she could do anything she wanted.

Anyone Know About Final Checks . . . Jun 25, 2010I finally cut ties with the Q after being returning to work for them and finding them not to be the company they once were or the pay was not the same. After careful consideration and finding another position, I resigned. Awaiting my pay out from my PTO and being told it would be deposited today, nada. Anyone have any idea about this? Will this be sent as a final check or did I get the royal kick in the you know where and will not see that PTO payout.

Background Checks Feb 25, 2014Does anyone know if companies typically call your former employers for background checks? I have jumped around a lot in the last several years for various reasons, and still looking for the right fit, but have applied to 10 different companies in 2 weeks and have only heard from 2. I'm wondering if my resume and recent work history is the problem. I'm an MT of 8 years, so lack fo experience is not the problem. Maybe it's the time of year? If I don't find something soon, ...

WEEKLY Q/A Checks Dec 03, 2014During the video presentation, she said we would now have weekly QA checks. This means, in essence, that you can type all week with less than 10% QC submission, and a great QA score, and have it ruined with just 1 critical error, which typically gives you a QA score of under 89% if it is a report with less than 30 lines. Then it would be a cut in pay because your converted (lower) lines would be multipled by 7 cents, yes all of the lines. I don't know about you, but if I h ...

MTSOs And "paper Checks" VENT Aug 11, 2012Just received a "paper check" from MTSO before DD kicks in. I checked the name of the bank, never heard of it, did a website search and apparently, it was a bank that was absorbed by Wachovia which in turn, was absorbed by Wells Fargo. However, they are still writing checks on the "old bank name." I spent over an hour on the phone trying to verfify if ineed, I could go into a Wells Fargo branch and this check would be honored. For heaven's sake, if you are going to b ...
