Why all the hate on this board - Why?

Why all the hate on this board? People bashing companies. I don't understand this concept. I thought this board was to help people. If you bash a company that is a good company, you are not helping anyone. It makes me wonder if this board is worth looking at anymore. All negative and no positives! Geez, what a bummer this site has become!

It has been this way for years. Someone else tried another site but it became the same way. Most anon boards are like that not just in this industry but in others too. People troll about the internet who like negative attention. As well, workers in this industry are stressed out and come here to make themselves feel better, b/c chances are there is no one to crab at working at home, and since it is anon easier to be nasty. I stopped coming here for a while. Now I come here sometimes but avoid the threads where I can see where things are going downhill. Like anything in life you take the good with the bad and need to filter out the bad, or just don't come here at all. Nature of the anon beast.

Apparently, according to you, we should all come on here and tell sugar-coated lies to make YOU feel better.

The reality is that we are being laid off, outsourced, offshored, losing work to Indians and Pakistanis, losing work to VR, losing work to EPIC and other EHR systems. This is happening while taxes and other costs of living are going UP and our work conditions deteriorate more every single day.

If you want to feel "good" and tingly all over, go watch a Disney video.

MT has been a lucrative career. I am 65 years old this month, still working, and for about 1/3 of what I made all those years. I'm not looking for another company. I'm getting partial SS starting next month, and right now I'd rather keep the insurance that I have with the company rather than Medicare - Heaven knows where that will be soon enough. I'm glad I made it this far and have options of collecting SS, but for many of us they are pretty much stuck unless they change careers. I don't see anything mean about it. It's a fact of life - our lives.

I would suggest that any of the drama queens who have been subjected to "hate" on this board get their mad Google skills together and try searching for... ummm.... lemme see... there are so many to choose from.... well, let's start with Westboro Baptist Church. That's a good one. Read some of the things they have to say, then come back here and try to equate an MT venting about their crappy MTSO or even a few MTs being somewhat snippy with each other as "hate."

Once they've done this, they'll realize why some of us rational people just tune them out mid sentence. Dramaliciousness is ridiculousness.

People wouldn't be bashing companies if they treated their employees with even an ounce of respect. I don't think that people are coming on this board and lying about what companies are doing. It may not be pleasant to know the truth, but I believe most MTs are stressed and frustrated about how their companies are treating them. When you've had 4-5 pay cuts in the past 4 years or so, it's not easy to give a glowing review of your employer. Just my humble opinion, not trying to be a hater but just giving the truth.

Companies that treat people badly have been around since time began...so is finding something better. Respect yourself before anyone else can/will. One person's *great* company might be another person's *bad experience* and visa-versa. I work for a company who is quite respectful because I expect it; don't accept pay cuts and/or condescending communication.

I wasn't generalizing but stating what works for me. Although aren't we all captains of our ship? Can't be a doormat unless you lie down. After being *abused* by companies and people alike hopefully a person learns (as I did) what we DON'T want in life and go after what we want. It's not easy but it is a choice.

I have been in this business a long time and in many roles, both MT and admin. I've worked for hospitals, small MT companies, and large nationals. In the last several years, I have seen one of the best employers I've ever worked for change so dramatically from one I thought I wanted to retire at to one that, IMO, has done some very underhanded things to their staff.

And it's not just this company. The industry has changed. Yes, in the mid-1990s when the Internet was getting going and we were hanging out at another site, there were still many complaints about the industry.

A large part of the problem is the nature of getting paid by production in a field in which quality is absolutely vital. So you have single parents trying to keep a roof over their heads, running out of work, then getting in deep financial difficulty. IMO, this field is a very bad fit for the single individual who does not have a second income as backup.

Another source of complaints is due to the nature of 100% telecommuting. If your employer cannot see you, it's more likely they will think of you as your production numbers or QA score rather than a human being. It's easier to disrespect someone in email than it is to their face.

These things all contribute to the backlash you see online. MTs and others in this field have had not only their own jobs slowly erode, but the whole nature of their industry erode. It's a time of stress that we haven't seen before, both in our industry and as Americans.

There ARE positives if you look for them. I never trust a post that is completely negative or positive about a company. But there are posts that sometimes give you both the pros and cons based on the individual's subjective experience. Of course, when you also see a trend where there are specifics mentioned and many unhappy and citing the same issues, I think you can give more weight to those, or at least investigate them.

I am glad you wrote. There is a perversity in finding that time and again, the harder "one" works at transcribing an accurate report, the less "one" will earn: This is the bitter truth of being paid for production, with no recognition given to the accents, self-indulgence, and slovenliness of the crazy-mixed-up-shot-out-of-the-cannon-dictators-and-report-types that greet the happy transcriptionist. Yikes! There is not enough money paid on a per-line basis to make transcribing obstinately difficult dictators a level playing field for the transcriptionist. Yes, I can meet my quota and then some when I am transcribing reports with my own saved text or with canned text--why, transcribing these is just about a breeze. But then, for the same 7 cents a line that has been my pay for more than 2--almost 2 and a half years, and no 2nd shift differential, no weekend differential--my line count inevitably plummets as I transcribe a 30-plus minute report that could have been dictated in under 15 minutes were it not for the many pauses, phlegm-plays, and restatements of what has just been dictated by a doctor from another hemisphere. I am always left wondering, was that that a correction? Should I change what I just typed? This job is ever the balancing act to keep extreme stress at bay and conning "one's" self into the lull of the great lie, "Nothing lasts forever." Ha! Ha again!

If all feedback is negative, it should make you think.

Are these only from disgruntled employees or is this really something to be concerned about?

Whether good or bad, they had experience with a company and are giving feedback on it. Yeah, most will be negative as the happy ones just go to work every day and make the $$ and go on with their happy lives. Those of us who lost their jobs now have more time on our hands.

I type a lot of crap, but just had the worst doc I think I ever had. Had 11 QA markers so I sent it to QA thinking they might actually LIKE getting some work since they are about to be history. Anyways, this bi*ch marked 2 CRITICAL ERRORS and did an audit on it (which was still 96.5% in spite of everything I am glad to say). QA you wonder why we have such a bad attitude? I spend a lot of time typing for a huge university hospital clinic with no ADT. Have to type in all patient information. Almost every report is a LETTER. Referring physician has to be typed into the ADT. Then the letter recipient information has to be typed in and lo and behold have to re-type it into the cc list for the doc to get a copy of the letter. I wonder why I can't run a decent line count?
