Transcend pay - wondering

Could someone please tell me what it is possible to be earning in say 3 months at Transcend? VR and straight typing? I am trying to make an important decision, and you never know the true pay, what to expect in advance, how long to get highly productive, etc. Thanks in advance.

Good morning! I just finished my 2nd week with Transcend. Last week was training, which I was taken off of, so this week was my regular work schedule. I wanted to reach a goal of $90 a day, as they go by a $900 a pay period production rather than lines. After transcribing for just one week, I hit 1450 lines yesterday. First goal reached! Now onto my next goal. :) I have a couple dictators who are taking some time to get used to, so I know that number will increase quite a bit with time as I get over this learning curve.

I like the platform. It's very similar to what I used with Webmedx with just a couple differences using the Shift rather than Alt, etc. -- nothing major.

Our production breakdown doesn't give LPH, rather how many lines edited, how many typed, DC note percentage. I'm not 100% sure what my LPH in editing/transcribing is, as I don't know how many hours I was doing each.

I left Webmedx for Transcend and am very, very happy. I will be on a new account coming next month with my current account as my backup, which always has work. My sister also is coming over from MedQuist, was offered a position a few days ago, and will be starting in 2 weeks.

They have a matched 401K, holiday pay, PTO. We get paid twice a month. Training was excellent.

Don't think Transcend will be any better than WebMedX....the big companies are all the same - it's about lining their pockets and not the people who work for them. The honeymoon period will be short. Been there, done that. All I can say is, the grass ain't always greener. Good luck to all in this greedy industry.

I hear you and am concerned about the same! It is more and more difficult to manage on our ever decreasing line rates. I think in another 10 years all will be off shored due to this. In the meantime, I am taking some classes to get out but in the meantime still working at MT during the transition. I just signed on with a smaller MTSO and am hoping for the best. I haven't started yet, but will let everyone know my experience once I make the jump. Good luck to us all!
MT industry will be gone by 2014. Sorry to say. Target is paying 11 bucks - an hour, more than some make on VR

Not sure it'll happen by 2014 but it will be soon.. maybe within the next ten years. Technology is developing at a ridiculous rate and I think that'll put us out of business before offshoring does.

Please do talk to working court reporters (if you can find them) and to CR students (current and dropouts). Look at the contract the school asks you to sign and don't if it obligates you to pay for 2 or more years' worth of school no matter when you drop out. There is a HUGE percentage of CR graduates who drop out of the business in the 1st working year, a HUGE percentage of students who sign those horrible contracts and then drop out. Very very few students finish their education in the 2 years they are promised it will take. I so strongly advise that if you are willing to put money and 2 years into school, choose a course that has real jobs available after graduation at perhaps a nonspectacular pay rate, but a liveable pay rate. CR training, in my sad experience, has a HUGE scam factor associated with it. Lots of money in CR training for everyone except the student. Keep researching, and best of luck.

That sounds easy, to reach a certain speed, but it isn't that easy, and not very many people do it.

That means you have to sign up for an additional year, at maybe another $10,000, and if you don't pass it that year, which happens to a lot of students, you have to sign up for another additional year at another $10,000. Most people give up.

Then for those few who do make it, what they do then is another topic. You don't just get handed a job. If you do find one, you might be on call. Then you sit in the court room for many long, boring hours, then you have to go home and translate all of that. I can think of nothing more boring. Even the judges tend to fall asleep!

I was blessed to find a court reporting firm that was willing to train me and pay me while I learn. I have not been in the court room yet, just working on transcribing depositions and hearings. There has been an abundance of work and I still get to work at home. I have the option to go into the court room and take depositions, which with this firm you are paid for the long hours that you sit in the court room. If I had to invest in school and spend the time going to school, at my age I probably would not be transitioning into another profession. I am happy with my decision and the firm that is training me. Weigh your options, but for me after 20 years in the MT world, I see were it is going and the continuous trend is downhill.

calculations if you did 1450 lines and made $90.00, your first goal as you stated. I have been there for many years and have not had a raise nor do I make even 6 cpl. This is probably typical of Transcend, the new people get a lot more than us old-time work horses.

My guess is that she is doing a combination of straight typing and VR. - According to my calculations

If she is getting 8 cpl for straight typing and 4 cpl for editing, she would average 6 cpl or so, but I could be wrong.

beyondtxt. I have 10 accounts and do every work type and the most I have ever averaged in a pay period is 9% B mode, usually 5%. I think this person is blowing some hot air or someone who wants everyone to think that it is easy to achieve the line counts at Transcend. The MLS that I know all told me it took them a good 6 months to a year to get proficient at editing, especially as bad as the editor has been for the last few weeks.

I have worked on the eScription platform and it is a very productive platform. I am not sure what a B mode is??

a straight typing mode. They put the worst dictators in there just to make money. This poster is either making up a lot of untruths or is being paid an extremely high rate of pay, either of which is a strong possibility. I do not believe a word she says.

Your right. I was thinking she would/could have more straight typing but NO company who has VR is going to have that much. The VR is more like 80-95% I think.

This account varies each day. For instance, Tuesday I had about 50/50, Wednesday I had more like 80% editing/20% typing, Thursday I had all editing, Friday I had a lot of my muffled dictators so more straight typing, Saturday I had 50/50.

It always amazes me how quick someone is to say "YOU LIE!" when you're being nothing but honest and sharing your experience to encourage someone. It's really almost comical.

Excuse me, but I am not blowing "hot air." I've been editing for a long time and have a lot of Shorthand entries. I also have experience on this platform, as it is almost exact to the one used at Webmedx. I always use my hot keys to maneuver around the platform and the internet, very rarely touching the mouse.

I did achieve 1450 lines my last day of my first pay period because I put in the effort to get there. If this is hard for you to believe, that's not my problem. I have integrity and do not lie just to make a company sound good. I'm putting my personal experience out there.

Yes, I do type on BeyondTXT. For every day that I type, I keep a log in my notebook here of my lines editing and my lines transcribing. Yes, I do a combination. Right now, it's about 50% editing and 50% typing. I make over 8 cpl typing and over 4 cpl editing. I have 15 years of experience as an MT.

I put 100% into every 8-hour shift. I have Shorthand entries for anything I need to do while editing.

I'm sorry you feel I'm blowing "hot air," but I can tell you I'm pretty darn proud of myself for reaching my goal this soon. I actually made $97.16. My goal is to get 2000-plus lines a day, as I did at Webmedx (when there was work). Of course, I will slow down a little learning my new account that's coming on in a couple weeks, but that's okay. I know in the end, it'll bump back up.

I am curious as to if the TLs are meeting their requirements.  They are expected to type 75-80% of their time and get paid by the line as well .  I am very suspicious that they are not typing VR all day, having their work sent to India, etc, and are getting the straight typing.  They get paid a flat fee per month for their administrative duties on top of that.  I wonder if they are experiencing no work and looking at a blank screen most of their time& ...

I have read dozens of posts on the board about Transcend, some good and a lot not so good.  However, I think there is an explanation for some MTs loving it there and others hating it so much. Transcend is a company made up of many other companies through mergers. The original Transcend who existed first, before acquiring other companies seems to be the problem.  On the other hand, for example MDI/Transcend, for the most part does not seem to fit that description. I was with the company for over five years, not once failing to meet the requirements of me yet I was told my position would have to change to 2nd or 3rd shift if I wanted to keep my job as there were no positions available for 1st shift.  Two days after resigning I see they are hiring for 1st shift positions on a typing only platform which is what I wanted. Did anyone else get the memo from Transcend (soon to take over from DTS) about the line rate change for the transitioning employees from DTS?  It was elegantly written, but basically it said that when the accounts are switched over the VR that the line rates will decrease but productivity will increase and no cut in pay is expected.  It is happening exactly how the posters on this board that have been through takeovers by Transcend said - decreased pay. I have been with Transcend for several years.  I loved Transcend in the beginning.  The people cared about me, actually made me feel worthy and valued (25+ years experience) and I felt as though I was part of a family.  I was one of the highest producers because I actually ENJOYED my job.  My quality score, even with high production was over 99% consistently.  Something I took MUCH pride in.  In the past year, all of that has changed drastically...so drastically.&nb ...

At least when they bought my smaller company they didn't cut my pay.  Restructured it, yes, since they didn't pay incentive bonuses, but made absolutely sure I didn't lose money.  Nuance, on the other hand, just gutted me after buying Transcend.  MASSIVE pay cut that is now causing me to have to find a second job.  I already have worked every weekend and almost every holiday for the last 12 years I've been in this industry, now I get to work 7 days a week ...
